🏓 Why are people posting about Hong Kong? [Explanation]

Depends on how you introduce it. Good causes don’t always translate to good activities. How you introduce something matters. This kind of use of “good” is about like the old “what about the children” logic that persisted for about 20 years before people realized it was sort of a ruse for all kinds of silliness. “Its for a good cause” doesn’t justify everything in life. You way going in and spray painting LGBT-whatever rainbows on people’s cars would be acceptable for “consciousness raising”… ridiculous.

… .

So hows it feel being a Protest hipster elitist?

So college kids getting shot point blank is a meme.

No - going on about it here by knocking the gamers who at least once made aware is a meme in context.

Its funny to me how everyone acts so aghast at this -people who thought “eh cell phone made in China, China kewl” suddenly were faced with the reality of a soft-totalitarian state in true operation. Many of us knew how it was - some are just now having their eye’s opened.

Imagine gatekeeping human rights.

Imagine making the distinction of childish grandstanding in the context of a game, and doing it in the real world. Are you outraged by the degree of slavery in Africa currently, or the fact none of the Islamic countries ratified the UN Declaration on Human Rights? There are a lot of things you “gatekeepers” conveniently ignore until its popular. How about women’s rights in half the world right now to boot? Point is, this is a blip in the grand scheme of things; as a committed humanist, I am appalled, I also realize coming on and just trolling on players in the name of some cause is equally bad. Plenty of things to be upset about, but people like repeating the meme more than actually doing something serious about it. Another shocker is this: the same people who embrace relativism will turn around and be appealed at China’s internal politics… that one always kills me; you can’t have it both ways (though they will try).

Im kinda glad for that. Revolutions and the pain of the innocents should not be memes.

Oh yes. How dare we find out this way. It’s definitely not more important that awareness was raised. no the WAY we became aware totally invalidates us.

Why does it matter were they got the information from?

No ones talking about LGBT or spray painting. You just showed that this post has nothing to do with Hong Kong but rather your feelings on different people and demonstrations of protest.

No - that is stupid to suggest. It’s an illustration of the difference between positive and effective consciousness raising, and inappropriate ones.

So, tell you what, since you couldn’t see past the LGBT+ reference, substitute recycling with putting trash on everyone’s car. Feel better now?

Wow, you’re a hot head there, buddy. A clever analogy would’ve been using Hong Kong in the first place. You can’t back people now.

I don’t need to get anyone “back” - you either understand the points or you don’t. I should not be surprised at the lack of critical thinking here.

Ah that was an auto correct typo. What it should’ve said was “back track” as in It looks bad to randomly insult the LGBTQ population in a forum thread about Hong Kong and then pretend that’s not what you were doing. Anyway, you have a good one buddy!

I don’t have to back-track at all; anyone who knows me knows I am tolerant of LGBT+ concerns. It only looks bad and insulting if you didn’t get the point.

Just nuke it.

Hong Kong is irrelevant to the argument, both The Communist Party and the rioters are despicable people, what matters is that Blizzard shouldn’t be persecuting players on behalf of a foreign government for their political beliefs - it could have just as easily been Palestine.

I disagree on this point.
Flack the CCP, but not the protesters using the rights they have in a democracy.

Not everyone is uninformed about hongkong here. Even so it was good that people who usually don’t care about this kind of things manage to find out about it through that incident.

Not everyone is gonna care about it, it’s understandable, but some will and they will look for more information. Like universities becoming fortresses and the police are sieging it, workers and old people protest on the street, the military is starting to take action. Sigh… no matter how it ends people should at least know, especially when they’re halfway around the world.

Free Hong Kong rioters have been napalming innocent people in the streets, there’s a line between violence and protest that needs to be drawn. No matter how much you or I may hate The Communist Party, that isn’t a license to let people get away with attempted murder.
