🏓 Why are people posting about Hong Kong? [Explanation]

It actually doesn’t say anything about political speech.

I’m curious, have you got a copy of the said contract to share ?

Because I read an interview of Kibler (Hearthstone american caster) saying that he’s not allowed to talk politics, and it’s the same for the players.

Everyone’s seen the relevant paragraphs. They are so broad that Blizzard could ban him for saying literally anything if they wanted to. But politics is never specifically mentioned.

They also went onto their Chinese social media accounts and said they side with the Chinese

Gave an overkill punishment, and fired casters who had nothing to do with it, Taimou, and XQC both used homophobic slurs which is a much worse offense, and didn’t get near the level of punishment as the hearthstone player.

And when Coach Jane made a tweet speaking out against Blizzards actions, and saying he supports Hong Kong they forced him to delete the tweet.

Anyway, I feel like I’m the only one not surprised at all to see a guy exposing his political views on a international stream being suspended, regardeless of the political point of view itself.

It’s the wildly disproportionate response and firing the two commentators who had nothing to do with it. If they suspended the guy for a month it would have been fine.

Well, i am going to give Blizz money because i will buy the virtual ticket. I still love their games.

Maybe i’m badly informed on the subject, gotta read some articles. Seeya.

I am a Hong Konger, and Blizzard chose profit over freedom, that’s ashamed!

Every voice matter? Is this a joke now?

It is not true at all. Only about 12% of Bliz/Activision revenue comes from the Asia/Pacific region - not even all of that is China, as it includes S.Korea, etc.

The problem is that Activision has put a lot of its GROWTH prospects in China. They want to get out of the US market, and into the Chinese mobile market in the future. In fact that’s the strategy that prompted all the unhappiness at last year’s blizzcon with Diablo Immortal - a game that was clearly designed for China that was in no way intended for the existing Western fan base.

So, now they’re just doubling down on that. Screw the West, Screw their existing fan-base - all in on China.

That is what happens when the free world decides to put their manufacturing business in China.

According to data, China is poised to take over the USA economically next year.

So big business trying to jump ship on a stagnant market to a growing one should not surprise anyone.

Capitalism does not care for Democratic rights.

I just wonder how much of the stuff that you own is made in china. Hypocrisy at its best.

Ppl really like being dramatic over the internet.

Look, the problem is that we have an American company enforcing speech standards on behalf of the Chinese government. It’s not some abstract problem with China as a whole.

I was gonna consider buying blizzcon ticket for Symm skin but now I am just disillusioned and really don’t want to anymore

This is the proper response.

It shouldn’t take long though, I would go to any major news source, it’s everywhere now.

Companies doesn’t represent countries. They are going after their own business. That is capitalism for you.

Well, if you don’t want them to do stuff like this, you have to make the price of the decision cost more than it’s worth. Thus, boycotts.

Also I’m not exactly pro capitalism anyway.

Except they did way more than just that.

Hey, so, can Blizzard Say" China should respect the human rights of its people even in Hong Kong" even if it meant they would sanction them from their market?

Technically they can live without it, they pull in about 6BILLION from the rest of the world. Even at 1/3 of that they can pay for their people, places, and things, about 7 times over…

So whats stoping them? That Sweet Sweet blood money?

i had to look up these, James Hodgkinson who shot Steve Scalise was apparently a centrist (they supported berny sanders), dyton ohio i assume refers to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Dayton_shooting which according to the investigation didn’t have a political motive, all though he was apparently a misogynist, so right wing

willem von spronson didn’t kill anyone anyone and was apparently engaged in sabotage of the usa’s right wing anti immigrant infrastructure

none of this has anything to do with antifa though, i’m kind of curious why you thought it did?
