“one new hero every 2 seasons”

how long until we start approaching critical mass for heroes and end up with a daunting to manage and overwhelming roster like paladins

Pretty much never. We need MoreHeroes.

That’s the beauty of it, cause frankly I’m really bored of the roster. That’s why I’m excited for marvel rivals, fresh new heros

I mean that already happened. I remember years ago when they talked about retiring heroes at least for comp. That way it would help focus on better balance updates. But as the game has gone F2P selling skins requires all heroes all be fully active. Which has made them rework heroes so much they are not even lore accurate anymore.

We really aren’t remotely close and I doubt it ever will be a real issue for Overwatch before the game is dead and buried. God knows even DPS is horribly stale atm.

Really though, it’s been a handful of releases since I Paladins, but it’s hard to imagine that number suddenly overwhelming everything when it was never the game’s issue before. Is the roster really out of hand now? Granted, talents have always been a balance headache.

honestly, its hard to tell. right now when you open paladins, youre met with a massive ~60 champion roster, each with loadout card decks, 3 talents, several abilities, and ultimates. however, you have to buy heroes in the roster if you want to use them, so its greedy but at least forces you to pick from a smaller pool of heroes, but i guess its part of the charm

i would say it is, but then again, I have stopped playing paladins for about 2 years and when i came back i was so confused over all the new things in the game and remembered the exact reasons why i left last time and did so again

No such thing. One of the cool thing about Paladins is the roster size and items.

At some point they should spend less time adding new heroes and more time trying to incorporate ways to customize current ones eg talents. Junkenstein’s Lab showed us, that at least conceptually, it can be done and it’s a good starting point.

Paladins has hero bloat which makes it very overwhelming for a newer player to know who does what, how to counter and so on. This is obviously not so much of an issue for veteran players, but long term I think a certain balance needs to be struck.

I think OW2 still has room for heroes and unique archetypes so I don’t think they need to slow down just yet, the current pace is good. But I think in a few years this may cause more issues if they don’t innovate/refresh elsewhere.

variety was never the issue. The quality was.
