“Dive counters Widow”

One of the biggest lies ever told

If it was true, why was she the 3rd most picked dps in T500 (only behind Tracer and Ashe), where players actually know what they’re doing in a hard Winston/Dva meta in season 11-12 or ANY dive meta for that matter?

The only real Widow counter is another Widow. Simple. Let’s be real, the coordination of a dive comp compared to how easy it is to play BrigJuno and pocket the Widow is nuts

I mean we had sombra. But they took that out of the game.

Be it the old tried and tested method of “get tank to point barrier at her” and shoot her with projectiles works well enough.

And on most maps you can still flank her just fine. Be it they also removed the wall on the spawn door in havana for the attacker side, and still didn’t give you flank routes around to second point on circut. So like I don’t know what’s going on with those two.

The funny thing about this, is that it doesn’t account for the Widow’s options or even the options of the rest of her team. If you pressure an enemy frontline they can’t reserve shield for a Widow sightline (who can just reposition if she’s at all decent). Dive on a Widow can be mostly rendered ineffective by Juno and Brig, who Widow can fall back into.
At the end of the day, the best way to stop a Widow is with a Widow of your own.

I mean hard to reposition around a tool specifically doing the same to block ya.

Be it the thing is you can also get into widow’s LOS long before you engage her team in a lot of cases.

As mentioned before projectiles that fly straight tend to be your friend here. Do to them lacking fall-off, and widow being slowed down to a crawl while aiming.

I mean this isn’t new, or juno / brig specific thing. Ya falling back to supports in general kind of turns the engagement in favor of the widow. Be it she also loses out on LOS. so you know the thing she needs.

it is pretty tiresome the complaints of heroes throughout the seasons

widow hasnt changed at all much but now supposedly she is the most overpowered hero in the universe. the meta has changed and widow is the hero who has benefited the most. of course mostly has to do with sombra being dumpstered

hopefully the developers dont listen to baby crying and whining and dumpster widow… the cycle will continue… a hero dumpstered just because they are meta for one season

like i said… its so tiresome

Coordination and communication counters widow and sombra.

You have neither in a typical ranked ladder match

Brig Juno… Bruno.

:musical_note:
We don’t talk about Bruno no no no

We don’t talk about Brunoooooo but!

It was Havana time, we were attacking and there wasn’t a counter in sight.

No Pharah allowed in the sky

Widow walked in with a mischievous grin

Pocket!

You telling the story or am I?

I’m sorry mi D.Va go ooooonnn…

Bruno was inflicting pain

She could 1-shot ussss

Widow said “I’ve got it made!”

Can we please just go dive, fella-ah-ahs?

We got rolled like a hurricane!

What a terrible day, but anyway-

We don’t talk about Bruno no no no

We don’t talk about Brunoooooo!

What

Do you think the Widow complaints began this season?

The hero should’ve been dumpstered at the very least 2 years ago

Anyone who has played since OW1 knows dive doesn’t counter her, she took Genji’s spot (an actual dive character) in the meta even back in OW1.

Coordination and communication easily counters Sombra, it does not counter Widow.

The top ranks and pros could use coordination and communication to counter Sombra and deny her huge amounts of value, they could not do the same for Widow.

The pickrates of both in the recent dive meta we just had also disproves your statement in regards to Widow. The people with the best coordination and communication were countering Sombra and she was one of the lowest used characters, those same people weren’t able to use the same coordination and communication to counter Widow and she was a meta damage character.

Not relevant, since if you fail a Dive on Widow you’re now basically in her backline and likely dead unless you have some kind of escape. And even if you do, Widow can shoot you in the head any time she wants. No need for sightlines when the pick is gift-wrapped.

Yaaaaa? and that’s why most dive hereos have fail safes to quickly dip if your talking about the flankers, or stall with DM / winston barrier to jump again.

They are built with this scenario in mind.

And yet no one who plays against good Widows actually use them against her, because it isn’t worth it. Almost always, the two counters for going against Widow at any rank where Widow can aim is to go Sigma to block her off and pick another Widow to counter. In your scenario, if Widow gets any amount of peeling and lives, you now have to spend a longer time to reset for the next attempt than it takes her to scope in and shoot at something else.

The only thing that counters Widow is skill.

I don’t really care about Widow( I can play against her and I don’t play her), but she could get the dumpster treatment and I think the game would be better for it. There are other hitscan that can deal with flyers so the role is not really necessary. But the Widowmaker ship has sailed. Overwatch will always have Widowmaker and Widowmaker will always have a one shot.

But it doesn’t need to be.

No hero should be dumpstered. Complainers should’ve been dragged kicking, begging, and screaming from their homes and stuffed into trash cans back in 2016.

You also need to consider that Winston and Tracer are seeing a lot of play in those same ranks where Widowmaker has become so popular. Widowmaker is only a part of the picture.

Widow is the only constant at that rank. Even in older metas, where Sojourn, Orisa, Hog, Zarya or whatever else as the soup du jour, Widow has remained in the Top 5 DPS picks of Top 500.

She isn’t part of the picture. She’s the whole damn frame.

Umm what? if a tracer, genji fail a dive they are dash/rewind out. Or just swap target the widow doean’t have los to.

As I said, when Genji and Tracer dash/rewind out, their Dive is basically done for a while. It’s suicide to try again or “swap targets” when while the escape is on CD, and even when it comes back, any team smart enough to peel for a Widow that’s worth peeling for aren’t goldfish. They will be paying attention if an immediate reattempt to engage is tried.

In the meantime, Widow is free to find more heads to click on.

Again, the scenario that most Top 500 players use is to pick Sigma and second Widow to duel, and they often consider it “GG go next” if even one of those two things don’t happen.
