I ask you to respond with what you think the tank role needs to not only flourish balance-wise but also be a fun and enjoyable experience.

what 99% of tank mains will say. another homie to synergize with. as it is right now there’s only one way to play tank. stick with ur team and eat everything till you die or lose.
i haven’t touched tank really in ow2 and 90% of my few thousand hours was on tank in ow1.
I want a blade mail tank, based around reflecting enemy damage back.
They want to play another game.
Tanks are not a unified bloc.
You’re going to get a lot of conflicting data when Player A asks for something contradictory to Player B.
Like this. I hard disagree with this because my experience with double tanks was mostly been held hostage by my co-tank because of how important Tank synergy was, and getting mauled by the enemy Tank cause they had an actual good off-tank who supported them and I had a Roadhog.
I want the Damage Role to be renamed to “Offense” or something so people stop saying I’m not supposed to be able to deal good damage because that’s “Not what Tanks do”, like we’re playing a stereotypical Trinity-MMO.
They are unsatisfiable , remove the role go to oq, in solo tank format whatever you do won’t take the target of them.
You will keep buffing them and ruining identity of others
2-2-2 is unsustainable.
Open q with role limits is the only way.
It will give you more tank playtime
Also do what’s best for the game and its playerbase, remove the importance of tank role.
The least fun role in the history of gaming with the least playerbase doesn’t need this much pandering at the cost of game, other hero identities, match quality and other players fun.

Idk really. The experience is bad, but I play tank to play a tank.
Would it be nice to go 6v6 ans have a partner again, yes. While at the same time I hated having to deal with these abusive comps of double shields or rotating tanks. One wrong move or out of synergy sync up with a tank partner and your team crumbles.
What I do believe we need is this ease of counterplay that stop tanks flat in their tracks.
Currently bad players tend to pick a tank counter or revert to tank busters as a last ditch effort to win matches since the sole tank player is the weakness of every team. IE “Take the anchor out and everythibg starts to sink.”
I don’t mean leave no room to counteract a tank, but the effect that desigb aspect has today is so egregious that a bad counterpick can turn matches around with single use abilities used on said tanks.
And no…making us tankier or deal more damage is never the answer. That’s just a bandaid fix to temporaryily ignore the issue that some design are just oppressive to multiple heros that it destroy player agency.
“Tanks are too hard to kill.” To that I say: No…you just don’t flex when needed and your stubbornness is your weakness not a bad tank design issue.
Things like fliers being only manageable off 2 out of the 15 current tanks is embarrassing, Sombra just hacking the tank can be super deppressing aince tanks repy on their abilities heavily much more now, dps passive from some gun crazed that just hopped off COD shooting simlessly at the biggest enely target shouldn’t get much value.
But they do. Tanks are so much more limited in gameplay these days. Through the counterpicking the lack of versatility these indirect effects from making heros easier to play in other roles and then out of everything there, Blizz wants to make EVERY TANK A BRAWLER.
If you haven’t noticed yet the bapancing and newest tank designs have all been gravitating towards a brawler style tank which is decreasing the other two play styles of tank that exist. We needed more freedom in an already restricted role not this leash led method of all of us eventually turning into one tank style of brawlers.
I get it no one like a raid boss. But right now, its all we got. We are alone with no partner and the biggest whiners saying “nerf tank” don’t even play nor understand the role. And YET we are the silent minority who never get a say.
If you really want to fix the role, how about we start promoting skill over ease of use or cheese tactics? Telp that hitscan spammer to quit focusing on headshots. Tell that Sombra to gitgud and stop reverting to her everytime they lose a duel. Start telling other newbie tanks they don’t need to use Mauga, Hog, and/or Orisa as a past resort pick.
We need to start mentoring again and teach others this game isn’t as simple as “pick this and win”. It never has been and never will be. We need decent teammates, proper organic gaming mentorship, and we need to bring back the commaderie back into out game. No more “for me” let’s start setting the example “for us”.
To be honest. Give us tank players a hero with a bow or revolver type weapon and we’ll be happier. Shotguns and blunt weapons are ight, but sometimes, I just want to shoot down the Pharah myself in two precise shots.
Could use the Precision Rifle from Cyberpunk 2077 as an example for a long-ranged type tank. Felt like it should had went to Ram since he was built to use rifles.
Just give me more range, less spread.

A second tank to have a fellow comrade tanking bullets for me when im low or playing agressive.
To help each other in our glorious mission of protecting our team !
(And to prevent each other from being a punching ball for the ennemy counterswaping non stop)
It would definitely end counterswapping meta as your second tank could be the counter to your own counterpick.
And as a tank we would be able to play our mains more than 1 life in order to not throw.
Apart of a second tank back i want blizzard to finally release D.mon from her chains and have a 2nd Meka squad waifu :3
Not gonna lie, a Rein / D.mon meta would be beyond fun. Two melee heroes with shields protecting their team and watching each other back.
Now I need it to be real
I want to try letting Tanks gain ult charge from using their defensive abilities.
DPS get charge from dpsing.
Supps get charge from supporting(both heals and damage.)
But Tanks? We don’t get charge for using our defensive abilities.

Nice to see others coming around to this. I’ve given up on role queue and 5v5. The only way out of this mess is open queue with role limits
Nerf roadhog and do something about counter picking. Either make there be a limit on how many swaps one person can make or make a punishment for swapping so that there’s downplay to swapping and you gotta decide if swapping is worth it. I can’t stand seeing the other team come out of spawn, see what tank I’m on then go and counter swap me. If I die and swap, they go to spawn and swap. It’s not a display of skill and as the solo tank there’s no way around it for me they can repeatedly counter any tank I swap to with no repercussions
