If it’s only you and 9 bots, it shouldn’t give you a penalty, agree on that.

There is a penalty? I afk bots all the time and all you have to do is rejoin after you’re booted in 2:15 minutes from the gates open at the start. You don’t get leaver penalty
I have leaved bot games 100 times with no leaver que so something does not add up here.
Hi there, I play vs A.I. too but I’ve never encountered these penalities and I’ve left games plenty of times before. Maybe this is a bug? How many times has your son left an A.I. game? My experience has never been more than once in a day so maybe that’s different.
But I agree that this feature is stupid if it is intended.
I leave like six ai games a day give or take a few days but honestly I hope the guy mistakingly thought he queued for ai teammates when in reality it was with human teammates. If not then sucks for him because mine gives no penalty
I think more like he did that. There are no reports for 5 years about leaver que after leaving a bot game were you are the only human. I think he has que up as human team vs bot team and leaving that mode too many times gives leaver que.
No way a game with 9 bots will ever give leaver que.
I play AI very rarely (and leave them even less), I remember seeing some kind of dialog that stopped me from playing anything else until the AI finished. I don’t know if a penalty occurred or not.
But now that I think of it, I’ve never heard of anyone getting penalty from the bot-only AI either.
Maybe there is a chance the kid accidentally went for QM and quit? It’d be easy to see from the match history, abandoned QM games automatically show up as a QM loss once it ends (even if the player’s team won).
So, I just tested it, created an vs AI game with AI teammates and leaved it multiple times, and no, it doesn’t give you penalties, not even warnings. So it is probably a bug, or just some non AI games joined and leaved by mistake (or not by mistake).

unless its changed in the past few months there actually isn’t a penalty for leaving when you’re then only player (AI teammates and AI enemies)
(awhile back i used to do my dailies in beginner AI with AI teammates and i could leave as many games as i wanted too until i got on a good map for dailies)
he should only get leaver penalty if there actual players in the match,
are you 100% sure he isn’t playing VS AI but with human teammates?

I’m thinking the setting went back to human vs AI and the kid forgot to set it to ALL AI. I don’t think the option is remembered between log-in’s. You’d have to set it to AI vs AI every time you log-in for the play session.
There shouldn’t be a penalty for leaving VS AI games, even if you have human teammates.
As far as I am aware there never has been a penalty for leaving versus AI games. If there now is then this must be a recent addition to the game.
I have played with many people with unreliable connections in versus AI games and many do not manage to rejoin before the game ends. Happens a lot, and they got no leaver penalty.

So I just logged into his account and checked the history.
He has 6 QM total (2 recently, 4 from 2 years+ ago), and all 6 were played with me.
Other than the 6 QMs, his entire match history is versus AI.
Match history doesn’t show whether versus AI was with human team mates or with AI team mates. I assumed it was with AI team mates, as this is what he normally does (Versus AI, select the easiest setting, AI team mates), as that is all he can win, but cannot verify whether he did or did not make a mistake when selecting between AI team mates and Human team mates.
The only penalty I’ve ever gotten from an AI game is forfeiting gold and XP for the game.
If he constantly does it his teammates may report him and eventually blizzard will take action. Why is it bad ? people don’t like AFKers the bots in the game are bad, and it can be a pain to babysit a bot.
The games are only 15 minutes long. Finish the game or don’t start it if you don’t have 15 minutes.
This is a team game, if you make a commitment to the team you should honor it and finish the game win or lose. This lesson will serve your son well later in life, if you make a commitment honor it.

He left quite a few times… I told him to turn it of when he was playing:
- during lunch break a couple of times so told him to turn it off and go back to school.
- when it was dinner time
- when it was his bed time
Perhaps 10 or so in the last week?
Later, I went to play ARAM with him, I found that he had leavers debuff so we were stuck in queue for 30 mins before giving up and turning the game off / posting here.
Is it just me, or are some people really illiterate?
Don’t post your ignorant opinion if you haven’t even read the thread.
We’re not talking about humans vs AI. We’re talking about 1 (or pre-partied #) of humans with AI team mates vs AI.
Are you saying his AI team mates reported him?
Also, I just want to laugh at this. Not that he was, but even if he was playing with other players, I’m not letting him prioritize game team mates over going to school on time.
It’s called priorities… something people need to learn. I know this is something many gamers have trouble with… getting their priorities right.

Because I swear I’ve left multiple AI w/ AI teammates before testing stuff without penalty. Maybe I am mis-remembering and it was just one so my grace game covered it.
That being said, I don’t see how it is harming your son, thankfully.
Given the queue time for playing versus AIs with AI teammates is… 0 (well, I think it’s 5 seconds to allow time to cancel, but same diff)
Yeah… it actually doesn’t affect him - only affects me, since when he wants to play together with me, I want to play ARAM, but am forced to play versus AI as a result.

Which is annoying, but not blocking you?
Waited in queue 2100s (over 30 mins) before we gave up, so that pretty much means we can’t play ARAM. We even got the message that it would fill the team with AI players at around the 10 - 15 min mark, but it didn’t.
