My first purchase was uther. As a “founding father” game purchaser back when the game launched I received Raynor, tyrande, and diablo. I needed to buy a healer as i didnt consider tyrande a real healer or a character I really liked. Ive also always liked the paladin class from warcraft. Little did I know that in hots the paladins healing would be a bit weird as the CD were long and expensive
I still play uther from time to time as I play all the characters. Luckily I do enjoy the playstyle they’ve given him and would say im decent with the character.
The first hero I ever played in PvP was Anub’arak, and although it took me a few tries to win because I initially had no idea how objectives worked, I quickly took a liking to him, and he is one of my mains to this day. It seems the secret to winning with him is very simple: use the E button as a hard engage button whenever possible to initiate a chain stun, and only use E to escape in absolute emergencies. Chain stuns win games.
He sure did. If I recall correctly, when he was first released, his trait granted Raynor the most increased basic attack range of any hero at the time. This was soon made redundant as new heroes were released and Raynor languished in need of a rework.
I did love that Ray had a scouting drone, or whatever it was called at the time, but then, many heroes also had these generic talents.
Before BW’s most recent rework (4 years ago?) and even for a short time after, I remember there was a perception with some players that BW was a weak hero. I recall that some people on the forums and in game called her a “flying healing totem.” Now she is often first ban/pick in ranked.
Nova, because HOTNESS. That was before stealth nerf.
After nerf still play her occasionally, don’t care she’s bad because still HOTNESS.
Not main because of the hatred she generates on teammates (more than Mephisto for sure).
Never forget the release CGI, that nuke and kiss was pure HOTNESS!!
I liked playing her before the nerf/rework. I liked that I can lane fairly well with her and make some decent damage/kills. I always tried to do my combo with nearby players to take advantage of the displacement and stun, but my teammates never took advantage of golden opportunities for free kills.
I was always hoping to get the MEKA skin for her, but never got it.
Nova, as if you already couldn’t tell I am a retard/pervert. Followed up with Sylvanas more than a year later because I didn’t really like the game at first.
Tyrande was my first hero purchased on Nov 10, 2014.
I wouldn’t have ever said I was a “main” for her, but I wore her avatar with a touch of prominence around here that people used to think of me as a tyrande “main” before that perception shifted to whitemane (also a nigh-faded memory)
Considering how much Tyrande has been changed, it has been rough to remain consistent with her and I’d prefer other heroes to slot for my roulette of “fill main” play.
As far as i could the tell first one i bought (16 July 2018) was Cho’Gall but in order to look up what i bought i had to dig trough all the money i spend on Heartstone
I only played Gall (lvl3 on Cho) with the friend that got me into HOTS we played only AI and i started PvP at player level 400 or so. I don’t play Gall anymore we tried a few matches Cho’Gall in ranked but i didn’t work out so Gall will stay lvl 10 forever.
Next one is the Butcher (bought 29 September 2018) as of right now my highest level Hero at 46 i have 155 matches in AI on him and 158 in all ranked modes Hero, Team and Stormleague (with 60,8% wr in the ranked modes ) I used to play him alot when i was Bronze but i also duod with an Aba Player alot when back then. Now in silver I rarely pick him as hes one of the worst heroes Imho. He is still one of my main Heroes i would say.
The third hero i bought was Mal’ganis (along with 1170 gems to buy him i guess) on the 26. October 2018 he was so good back then now he just sucks 32 games in AI and another 30 in Ranked (50%wr in ranked) playing him feels bad knowing that any other tank is just better than him he is currently lvl 14 an will problably wait until this game is shutdown for the mastery taunt/portrait unless i pity him. Sorry for the Wall of Text (and typos).
I remember I just started buying with packages so I have no single bought hero. The first hero I started playing with whas Muradin but I do not like him.
Though maybe technically my actual first bought hero is Artanis because thanks to SC II deluxe packages and yeah I still main him as I find he is really strong and I like him from character very much.
Great thread. Took me a long time to purchase my first hero. I really utilised the weekly hero rotation and watched many youtube videos of each character to help me with my decision.
Then I watched a video about abathur. Good lord, the concept was amazing to me. His design was so outside the box. An all present character who is everywhere and nowhere at the same time!?
Ten thousand gold?
Very Hard tag?
Lowest win rate?
Don’t care. Shut up and take my money!
He’s not necessarily my main anymore, but he’s still in my top 10.
…
Whilst not my first character purchased, I want to give a big shout out to my boy Rehgar. Coming from wow (like other players here by the sound of it), I was used to healers doing approximately 2% of a Damage dealer’s damage. In this game a character can heal and do damage!? What sorcery is this?
I barely play him now, but he’s still a high level compared to my other characters meaning that I must have spam played him a lot when the game first launched.
It was the reason I tried out Heroes of the Storm in the first place (“You can play as Diablo in this game?! Holy @&$#!”).
Before HotS, the Blizzard games I had played were Diablo 1, 2, 3, Warcraft 2 and The Lost Vikings. HotS opened my eyes to the other Blizzard things out there, and made me realize I don’t necessarily hate MOBAs. I still suck at RTSes though.
As soon as I had 7000 gold I bought Diablo. Wasn’t disappointed.
Interesting that everyone got into hots from some blizzard game or another. Don’t get me wrong I played warcraft 3 and diablo 2 annnd … well that’s it but, it was never these games that got me into hots it was just that I needed a new moba to invest my time into, plus this one already had most of my friends in it.
