Those heroes rotate fairly regularly (once a week) so everyone gets to play them without paying anything sooner or later. I only own like 40 heroes but I have all heroes at lv ~10 or higher.
A player who is really good at five or 10 heroes can still beat me easily though, I have no advantage over him/her just because of my bought heroes.
Except for event mounts (I’ve never bought a mount before) I’m pretty sure through loot boxes (??) I’ve unlocked one mount from each category.
I consider shards a free currency as eventually you will earn shards through buying loot boxes through gold. Shards are equivalent to dust in hearthstone. Slower to gain than gold, but still possible to get through free to play
Not the worst idea but devs could give one mount in each category for free when you make an account. From there you can buy mounts with shards or gems as normal. Balancing non-mount heroes like lunara will be a different story
The original poster’s idea for event mounts is ambitious and unique but would be hard to balance unless everyone can get all the mounts.
Tbh his idea actually made me relate his idea of stat mounts to runes in LoL. Even if you face the same hero twice in hots, different mounts from the enemy’s choice will make them play slightly differently. We could go with the original poster’s idea, or we could consider a rune system🥳
Technically no: you can get every single card as with in game currency. And there were also a couple of cheap deck that can be piloted to Legend.
It’s very time consuming, that’s true.
Just because you can get everything for free over time doesn’t mean that it’s not pay to win. If that’d be the case there would be no pay to win games because the most common design is “everything is free, BUT!”, meaning ppl can get advanteges if they’re willing to pay.
Yes, there are cheap decks that can make to Legend, because the game is rotten from the roots and it has a lot of cheap but strong low mana cost minions which fuel the aggro meta…
But that doesn’t mean, that you can’t get advantage over others by paying, because having certain cards just too op. (Tho I admit, this was most strongly the case in early HS, when the games were shorter (less aggro) thus Legends were actually more impactful).
Doing a quick search, current top deck dust costs are go from 3.8k to 16k. So even the cheapest top deck requires 2+ legendary worth of craftmaterial.
And the vanilla cards are so low value that you can’t really start the game even if you’re good in it, unlike HotS, where you don’t really lose value (at least in QM) just because you’re fresh (and even in draft, you can’t gain value by buying the latest “op” Heroes because they’re permabanned).
I mean… it’d be kinda cool if skins did give something, but maybe not apply to in-match bonuses. What I mean is, what if Legendary skins gave 10% more XP gained, Epic gave 7% extra Gold, Rare gave 4% XP, and common gave 2% gold.
You’d be able to play a skin and earn faster rewards to unlock more heroes/convert gold to shards or even level them a tad faster
i suppose you could look at it as pay to win. many ppl already have mounts if they have been playing. the new accounts would suffer most though for sure. this is something that most ppl here dont remember likely because the artifact system in HotS never made it to the release game. it had the same kind of effect though.
basically, you end up with a bunch of have and have nots. the ppl with the items have all the power and win the matches. the noobs or ppl that dont want to spend on items lose all their matches because they dont have the items.
aside from that though giving mounts bonuses makes them mandatory to pick your optimal mount instead of your desired mount. so for instance if i was playing Xul and wanted the tombstone (event) mount because it looks cool with him that would be sub optimal vs a rooster (beast) mount which gives him an AA damage buff.
Lucio, Dehaka, Falstad, Lunara, Mephisto, and Brightwing will all become unplayable. In addition, hero-specific mounts would become useless, which would be a shame, as some of them are simply amazing. Such as Prime Evil Diablo’s.
that’s true. i play Black Desert Online and it’s Pay 2 Win but you can also get better stuff without paying any money. Pay 2 Win doesn’t mean you can’t get anything without Paying Money. it means you can get things faster than farming them
My friend is loaded irl, and paid someone a thousand bucks (yes, really) to upgrade their T2 ship to T3 in Black Desert. He also became sailing artisan and trading artisan without doing anything himself.
Kinda makes me mad when real world is mixed with the game world like that.
it’s so gorgeous game even while you must grind if you don’t want to pay to get the stuff. it doesn’t make you feel bored from grinding it’s endless! and fun
