i would be the first one to say i had a bad game and wasnt doing my job. i have fully admitted it to my team before that i was just having a off game or maybe i was lagging my butt off. something that was causing me to fail more.
…but i am serious here
the game really does stick with total idiots sometimes. it is just how the system works. its because of the averaging of MMR values to get a ‘team’ average that matches your enemy team average.
improve… maybe. win? no. thats not a guarantee.
someone posted an interesting video not very long ago. it was of Rich taking on an all bronze team and trying to carry all by himself. it was funny tbh. he lost actually. i am guess a pro player like Rich just isnt good enough. right?
what does that say about someone that gets stuck with one or two idiots in their team at their own level and they arent a super skilled player that could have tried to make up for these kind of things? i have been there myself. i can carry harder than anyone on some heroes, but if someone is feeding constantly and they arent holding up their job role? there really isnt much i can do. i have heard this argument in terms of say LoL before (which i dont play, but i understand it) HotS is completely team based and shared. Where LoL you can be a solo superstar for your team. one person being bad isnt necessarily the end of the world.
You don’t get paired with 4 bronze players + you vs team of 5 diamonds or masters. That match was artificially made in custom setting while you have no chance of getting anything even remotely comparable. Sure you will occasionally get an AFK, feeder, troll or whatnot that makes it very unlikely to win the game. On average you will still be climbing if you are better than rest in your rank. Not to mention OP is talking about TL, the mode where he has 100% control on who he gets paired with if he opts to use the tools given to him.
He was playing against diamond/master players. If it was Rich + 4 bronze against 5 bronze, he would carry most of the matches for sure.
It’s just luck to be honest (or bad luck). I’d also recommend not looking at others profile unless it’s to look if they play some role and they can fill if needed, because you really don’t want to leave something like healer to the last pick and then he has none. But never look at winrates or match history, most of the time it will just tilt you before the match even started (even if you don’t notice it). I won several games with people that had pretty bad loss streaks (20+).
yes, but that wouldnt have been a fair match would it. it would be like a GM smurf going from bronze to master. sure you could say ‘well the account is bronze’… but the player themselves far exceed any other players so much that their play makes up for it.
while that kind of thing isnt likely to happen in a real matching situation… rainbow matches do occur which is similar.
what i noted above is also something to consider…
even within a single rank there can be a high amount of variance in MMR. you have ppl that have higher MMRs from win streaks and ppl with less MMR. when the game tries to match ppl it doesnt always end up perfect.
