I personally prefer playing healers, but I would never want forced comps in QM. QM opens itself for a little crazy. Like I personally don’t like no healer games, but throwing them in there once in awhile is still fun for me. I want the variety, it keeps the game fresh. if people want more standard comps, play a draft mode.
A single forced pair of tank+healer with other 3 slots flex (bruiser, assa, specialist or support).
Not necessarily for enemy team team to receive perfectly matching roles for last 3.
Each bonus tank or healer properly mirrored.
If we can play no healer matches I don’t see how seeing four in the same match might RUIN THE OPTIMAL GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE designed by complete morons who think the current state of things where half of the characters cant perform their intended role might best for the game.
Wouldn’t it be much more exciting to play with a proper comp whenever you pick a niche hero, or maybe even stop being matched against Abathur every single game if you pick Zarya? Current MM structure is so bad that sometimes based on what you pick, you will never receive a certain hero as a teammate. This is dull, boring and the gameplay feel stale.
But that is not what people want. They wanted QM to become ranked with fast ques and a matchmaker that had to cater to his pick. In ranked they cant pick thier fav hero and has to wait long time to find a game. And most of those has no patience to wait for a balanced game.
Forced tanks and healers in QM was to try and cater to the assasian mains that always cried about having no tanks or healer on his team and had to play a rainbow match that was lost on the team that did not get Butcher.
come to Australia. There is QM or … QM ![]()
Hahaha yeah you’re correct but don’t be sorry I was also being facetious ![]()
I’ve suggested a system like what you’re suggesting for years (or at worst a quick blind draft).
I haven’t played LOL in a while, what’s the general reception to it?
Poor Aussies, you deal with too much already. It’s not enough with your depleted ozone, nightmare creatures stalking alongside invasive species infestations, but secluded/slow internet… At least you have healthcare.
Who cares about living if we can’t have quick internet!
“Hey so the good news is we finally added your favourite Blizzard character to this game, bad news is he/she is so specialized and niche that you can only play them on 2 maps against teams with 3 melees and a healer that doesn’t have cleanse.”
Meanwhile, if your favourite character is the D3 Demon Hunter you are good to go on every game ever made ever
Sure is fun how you can never actually play Maltheal in QM or in like, 80% of ranked games for that matter!!! Great hero design right there!!!
The absolute gall of someone with an ARTANIS pic of things telling me that having barely playable niche heroes in a game is a good thing is actually too much for me here. Lord give me strength here.
Yes, my favorite hero is very niche, and I am completely fine with it. When I play in organized competition, I am far more likely to draft Blaze, Leo, or Sonya (I can’t play Hogger very well
). Those are among the best generalist offlaners. However, in his niche, Artanis is decent enough, and certainly more fun for me to play than the others. In QM, I will still pick him fairly frequently, as he can be built and played to compensate for his weaknesses good enough for QM.
In ranked, I really only draft him when his niche of “lots of sustained single target damage” is appropriate. I did get to play him on BoE in SL last night. Yay!
Are you like, living in 2020 or something? Artanis has been the bog standard Bruiser since his big rework. Meanwhile, Maltheal got turned into a “bruiser” that can’t even kill a tower without pushing like 7 waves into it first.
I … what? I mean, he isn’t a bad hero, but he certainly isn’t an S tier bruiser. As I mentioned, that would be Blaze or Hogger. Dehaka is S tier, but is stronger on the larger maps. Malthael is actually one of the better bruisers on maps that require strong double-soaking, such as Towers of Doom. I draft him there regularly, especially if the other team picks something like Xul. Bonus points if the enemy team picks Garrosh!
Artanis does tend to be popular, particularly in QM, mostly because he can brawl for days against the right comp, and especially in lower MMRs, people just want to brawl for days. In organized play, you won’t see that sort of constant ARAMing, and people know how to punish an Artanis who wants to be aggressive. His waveclear is poo, even with the level 7 talent, and he has no follow up CC or reliable peel to help out the tank in team fights.
When you look at the stats from the higher MMRs, Artanis just about disappears from the list of bruisers.
People still prefer ranked and more serious games, but the new quick play was really well received. That way you can enjoy either of 2 roles/champions without going through draft mode. Queues are still short and you get what you want. And I haven’t seen too much out of what someone would consider “normal” comp.
Does this mean blind draft is less popular?
Though to me, this proves that if a team game is to have a “QM”, it should have this style where it still allows players want they want but somewhat still fills.
…BUT in saying that, HOTS was probably the instigator for the change ![]()
I don’t know about popularity, just that it was well received, specially because most didn’t play blind pick.
I also don’t know if they got inspired in HOTS to make the new gamemode. Their reason was that blind pick was too toxic since there wasn’t a role assigned to everyone. And then sometimes you didn’t have a hero for the role that was left.
All I know is, I like choosing what to play sometimes but don’t really like how HOTS did it. The intention was good, the execution was not. I think League did it better now.
…Blaze isn’t a Bruiser…
And again, you are proving my point on how some heroes are just too niche for their own good. Blaze is a “tank” that can’t actually tank, Malth is useless on double lane maps especially if your team doesn’t need a lot of % Damage, Illidan’s success is 100% dependent on the other team’s comp more then anything else, etc.
It just means too many heroes are unplayable in the most popular mode by far.
I know this will fall on deaf ears, but regardless of the fact that QM is popular, heroes weren’t designed and balanced around that mode, any more than they were designed and balanced around ARAM. Draft mode was the standard around which they were created, and is the mode in which the entire roster has a place and purpose, although that can change based on MMR. Heroes which are perfectly viable in Silver can be seen as useless in Master play, and vice versa.
Similarly, heroes that thrive on the chaos and potential lack of counters in QM are, yes, very niche in draft. You will disagree, but I do see that a strength of the game overall, in that you can pick a hero that is usually off the radar to completely shut down what the enemy team wants to do. That is why you will sometimes see a Zeratul ban when a team wants to execute a Juice Pirates comp.
Balancing heroes around QM means that everyone will need self-sustain (No healer? No problem!), wave clear, CC, escapes, engages, siege, and so on. This also means every hero simply becomes nothing but a fancy skin, as there is no distinguishing between them.
Might as well just remove everyone except Muradin, Anduin, Leoric, Tychus, and Tracer, give them generic “tank”, “healer”, “bruiser”, “burst damage”, and “sustained damage” kits, give every single one of them reliable self-sustain and CC, and call it done. Because if your preferences are catered to, there would be no need for diversity in the hero pool any more.
Edit: I will note, I really like the idea of the Quick Play set up from LoL as Darak described it. Too bad it will never make it into HotS. ![]()
Yes king, go off! Put Abby in the can and let the bin chickens eat him! I was just thinking that!!! omg! And abby is a good hero but the players that be on him need to stick to hammer and Lili.
“Heroes being useless for the vast majoirty of whats left of this playerbase is a good thing, actually” is a helluva thing to triple down on!
