Opinions on Auriel?

im curious now, who do you all think are the best auriel hat targets?

I’ve played quite a bit of Aba (before game shutdown, I know, ironic considering my prior comment) but Illidan, Samuro, and Imperious are all great targets.

EDIT: person I was replying to clarified auriel hats, and I’ll clarify I’m an idiot

for Auriel, any of the hyper carry characters honestly, your vallas, cho’galls, zeratuls, etc

It’s this kind of wave clearing power that had landed Blaze in trouble. For a long time he was significantly stronger than every other tank in this regard and so is Auriel in comparison with other supports. If I’m not mistaken, devs didn’t really like Malfurion’s Moonfire dealing extra damage to minions and mercs either so eventually the radius and slow values got hard nerfed.

Searing Light would simply be too much in combination with another lvl 1 talent, could potentially make her significantly stronger in a solo lane and would ultimately lead to the dreaded double support comps.

30% damage for a baseline perk is in my opinion far too kind and anything less would simply turn it into a nuisance, if it were to start breaking sleep effects for example. I also noticed you didn’t explore the potential ridiculousness in combination with the Glimmer of Hope talent.

Cassia

  • spammable poke for constant damage
  • durable: can trade hits against other poke heroes to benefit from Empathetic Link
  • Can position aggressively for Searing + Surging Light wombo
  • Blind Trigger Boosts
  • Benefits from any lvl 16 auriel talent
  • Has own sustain, so not reliant on getting all of auriel’s heals

Nazeebo

  • can constantly deal damage to something
  • Detainment combos
  • spell armor & summons helps mitigate auriel’s weaknesses to poke
  • his damage lingers (for steady energy)
  • sustainable resource management

Tassadar

  • Can build to be durable
  • can Detainment combo
  • steady damage for reliable energy
  • buff/debuffs benefit Auriel
  • sustainable mana management

Hogger

  • Detainment combo
  • can position aggressively for Searing Light wombo
  • can build for poke
  • sufficient self-sustain, he’s not reliant on Auriel
  • unstoppable, (not as punished for auriel’s lack of cleanse.)

Cho’gal

  • 2-for-1 and stuff

Usually from what I have seen in the vs A.I ballpit heroes that are talenting into or are doing a ton of consistent AoE damage seem to be the best ones to plop the Burger King crown atop of.

How does it fit though?
With Zarya, she’s the hero who leasts wants to be by herself. You could go in a lane and join your team later, but then your Team loses its heals for a while, and you’re not good 1v1, so unless you’re alone in that lane, you’re not making much progress besides soaking (And a good opponent will bully you out of your xp)

That’s why I say she doesn’t get much value from a Global. She has very low impact by herself, and isn’t strong enough to delay an objective channel against most heroes.

Flight to Stukov? Bonkers
Flight to Kharazhim? Bonkers
Flight to Lucio? Bonkers
Flight to Lili? Rags to riches
Flight to Rehgar? Where do I sign?
I don’t feel that way about Auriel.

I don’t know, the shield still saves them while you’re getting energy, but it also covers everyone else. Both talents give you something similar, but Shield gives you two “Oh crap” buttons instead of one, and gives you an option against AoE, whereas the upgrade is more of something you already have. I personally always prefer to have both Aegis and shield rather than just the upgrade.

For me personally:

1st Place: Cho’Gall - 2 Heroes of extra energy gain for the price of one, and one is mage sassinish damage to boot!

2nd Place: Any high damage 'sassin.

3rd Place: Auriel - 2 Auriels hatting each other is a rare but funny sight. :stuck_out_tongue:

Honorable Mention: Friends of mine - Cause they’re my friends so Shamelessly Biased towards them. Also tend to be Discording with them to boot whereas I don’t do VC with Randos.

I love Searing Light, but not sure if it should be baseline. The problem with it is that because it doesn’t require you to hit heroes, the skill floor to get some value is lowered quite substantially so it has more PVE applications. On top of that, it’s also good in fights too, which makes it a very versatile talent. It’s kind of like why Burning Blade on Samuro is so popular. Giving baseline general AOE is just more power creep.

I’d rather see the other two talents at level 1 just requiring less emphasis on hitting heroes and having broader appeal.

EX: Righteous Sweep changed from 3 sec CD reduction on enemy hits to → Sacred Sweep CD reduced by 1 second and 2 second CD reduction on enemy hits.

Increasing Clarity damage is actually really nice. Problem is sometimes you generate energy so fast, you end up getting more energy than you can spend it because of CD limitations.

I like Gul’Dan, nice combination of consistent energy from DOTs and “burst” from fel flame.

Zarya is also pretty insane, you become like a perpetual motion machine.

Attack Speed 16 with a Trait Raynor is also pretty disgusting.
