Hit “ESC” on keyboard, hit “Options”, hit “Social”, for “Enable Team Chat” near the top … uncheck that.
There is zero reason to hear words from people in this game.

Unfortunately true. Though the only place where chat can’t be blocked is draft, and that’s probably the only place where it’s useful.
Most of time time, pings are enough. Anything most players say isn’t generally worth considering or is flaming.
(I’m jaded though so I keep all kinds of chat including General Chat on just for the entertainment value - it is awful 99% of the time, and Gen in particular is full of people who would get prosecuted for the racist stuff they write if someone bothered to report them).
Years ago you’d also see some shot calls like “boss” in chat but I feel like nobody does that either.
Not chatting is also a pretty foolproof way of avoiding false silences, as salty ‘abusive chat’ reports against people who typed nothing all game do not count.

I like hearing words! I say hi to my team at the start of every match (barring group sessions or times where I am distracted).
Most of my matches are quiet, aside from people replying to my hellos, a lot of them are either positive or strategic, and the remaining few can be a bit dicey.
I’m having blast meeting new people and celebrating our favorite moba together : )

I don’t know why people are so afraid of words. Sometimes they can be useful, sometimes they aren’t. If someone is that annoying, you can mute them, but preemptively turning off all chat probably says more about you than anything.
Honestly, I feel like the worst players are the ones who don’t chat because they’ve already been silenced and do stupid things like not helping teammates, which of course they will then inevitably call the person out and then they freak because they can’t handle legitimate criticism.

I still meet interesting, helpful, friendly players in my matches, and many more who tell goofy or clever jokes which make me laugh. This happens less often than back in say 2016, but most veterans already have friend groups or are on discords, so the lack of extraneous chat is expected with an old title.
By all means, turn off or mute chat when you get the occasional rage monster, or someone who wants to share hot button political opinions, but in game chat is never consistently as terrible as General Chat, which I don’t blame anyone for muting or simply never logging into the channel.

if you are taking time to chat, you are removing yourself from doing your duty in lanes, healing, tanking etc. People need to get on mics, which btw 99% of people don’t in PUG groups.
I prefer to leave it open, as you might be able to communicate or hear some valuable information. And, though less often, you might read something funny or get to connect with someone.
My favorite, when I’m healing, is the quick one swipe, ‘on the way’ ping. This means, back off and don’t die, I’m going to help you.
Yeah, that’s why you don’t chat during that. But I find this is way overstated and some people just get irrationally triggered over any chat. Most people chat while rotating or when they’re dead. Usually when people keep making the consistent mistakes to the point that leads to the team dying, which is the perfect time to chat and course correct.

It’s not a good player base. All of you know it. More often than not, someone will say something negative, if not most will, most are jerks.

posting a bunch of hyperbole doesn’t mean it’s correct.
Most of my games don’t have people say much of anything, so no “most” don’t say something negative.
I have found that positive chat tends to get positive chat, and similarly, those looking to complain, flame, or blame in their games are going to get responses in kind.
The visibility of something doesn’t make it the majority.
Yeah people love saying the most vile things due to the perceived anonymity. One of the best low IQ giveaways is when people are winning handily, yet they complain about some small thing that goes wrong. Relativity can’t be overcome by most.
true i mostly play with teammates full of bots, i mean they’re real people, but they usually play like trash easy bots so no reason to get tilted while playing and type… if i get allies as bots who feed, feed and they just get pushed and die… i just go afk and go next instead of typing and get banned

Blizzard’s silence and suspension policy was one of the nails in the coffin of this game. Chatting in this game while also caring to win means, you will end up being silenced. A lot. You tell people that they play dumb and get reports. And the “thorough investigation” by Blizzard silences you - which just means, you need a number of reports from players that can’t play and report everyone that tells them so, to be silenced.
Just disable chat and you are better off. Especially since people don’t follow chat anyway if you tell them to take camp, to retreat or play more carefully.

why do you think someone would want to hear from you that you feel they play dumb?
I’m confused as to how you don’t connect that you are the problem if you feel your statement is a good one.
I think Skycaptain is a joke.
But this is such a weird example. The issue with this is you most often can’t because when you see an awful park job, the person has already parked and left. No one is going to waste their time to wait for somebody to get back to tell them. But if someone did a truly awful job to the point where they double parked, and I happened to not be in my car and was just coincidentally near by while the other person was leaving, I would say something.
Inconveniencing others with your lack of care doesn’t mean you should be immune to hearing criticism just because you don’t want to hear what others say. Don’t do dumb stuff and other people probably won’t say how dumb you are.
100% . Talking in this game is quickest way to be reported . Report system broken and abused anyway . Always teammates saying the worst things to you. Blz has become a negative energy machine. Nothing good generated anymore
