OK I have seen this happen more than once, and its a very nice strategic play for capping camps and points in games. While my whole team is on a camp, capping it, a bird swoops down and he ults a ley lines onto us and we are taken out of play and he caps it fully before we are released. This play obviously reminds me of how Zeratul Void Prison use to work. Yes its smart, but since then, Void no longer removes a hero from a capping spot though it is on them. But ley lines do, this is something I am not sure blizzard missed or did on purpose. The two abilities are both heroic and pretty much do the same thing, except Medivh ley lines can take a hero one at a time out of play and suspend them, while void prison is a target location but suspending all. I want to see anyone else has noticed this and have issues how both abilities do the same thing but one is able to allow the user the ability to over cap the opponent.
And they have different cool downs, different casting times, one effects allies… they’re on different heroes. One lasts longer.
It’s almosg like… they are different abilities! gasp
I’m pretty sure this is deliberate. Leyline seals heroes only, putting them into stasis. Stasis’d heroes cannot capture nor contest points, which allows Medivh to then cap the mercs. Zeratul’s ult affects all units including structures and merc capture points within the Prison.
And one gets to basically have a 10-15 second cooldown at level 16.
Leyline is closer to Chromie time trap than VP. It’s ability you can effectively dodge and it only effects heroes. VP freezes friendies, neutrals and enemies. If Medivh steals camp from you it’s a good trade for powerful ult… And if you’re at boss you know to stay split.
Yes, and?
That just further cements that fact that they’re different abilities, which cannot be directly compared.
I mean they are both AoE time stops, so they can be directly compared. VP actually used to steal camps but it was cancer because it cast instantly and was on a hero with invis and blink. So they made it freeze the ground too.
Ley Line is cancer now too, when Medivh can try to steal every camp, even something minor like a siege camp, because it’ll be up again in no time.
And in return…
It does not last as long.
It has a wind up time
It has a travel animation
It is not nearly as versatile.
And did to these things If you lose the camp to lay lines, the odds are that you would have lost it to poly bomb also.
Exception if you solo’d a camp… but in that case Medivh just wasted a valuable ult that could have been used in a teamfight.
There is a reason that void prison is taken nearly 70% of the time in ranked on Zera (over 75% in Masters, just under 72% in Diamond+Master).
And for Medivh is is about 55% for Ley Line (about 61% in Masters, a bit over 55% in Diamond+Master).
Both data from the last 65 days or so.
Or maybe I should put it this way:
You sometimes pick Zeratul specifically for Void prison
You almost never pick Medivh specifically for Ley Line Seal.
Did you read last patch notes? You can literally reset ley line in as little as 5 seconds now. Honestly, if you have a 5v5 boss contest going, you may very well be able to ult the beacon 2-3 times if first time doesn’t work. Whatever people did 65 days ago, they are going to change now when they can spam ley line like it’s a basic ability.
Yes.
I’m not sure how you do that unless you miss your first ley line.
How many games on Medivh do you have?
Based on all the profiles on hotslogs with your name, provided that name is the username you play under (and you upload to hotslogs) it is 5 games of Medivh.
I’ve not played much, especially as Medivh is a hero I’m practicing on a different account, but I’ve got about 40 games in the last 90 days.
Anyhow, in order to trigger it three times:
- you cast it and only hit 1 hero
- your arcane rifts hits 4 heroes once, and 3 heroes twice, and AA 2-3 times.
- at between 4-5 seconds since first cast, you’re able to cast again
- you somehow only hit 1 person again
- again hit Arcane rift, same as before
- you cast it again.
Like, if you’re not dead, and the other team isn’t dead, something is seriously wrong.
If you’re trying to steal a boss, even 5v5, and you can cast Ley Line Seal even twice, something is wrong, or you’ve already won, and casting the ability is pointless. In probably 99%+ of games. There is probably a fraction of a percentage point where a second cast of Ley Line Seal is meaningful.
lol. I’ve not had a chance to mess with new CDR admittedly, but “like a basic ability” no. Not if you’re in meaningful fights.
A second time in a drawn out 5v5, that seems entirely possible. Maybe even a rare 3rd time for very long fights (40+ seconds).
But generally speaking if you can get lots of CDR on Ley Line Seal, that means you’re failing to hit people with Ley Line Seal. And you would probably be better off with Poly Bomb.
Both are different abilities, leyline seal only stops pvp targets , it is not cancellable at will and most importantly leyline seal needs to touch you to stop you whereas you could put VP on a point for 5 seconds and safely forbid anyone except zeratul to interact with the point during this interval no matter if they already were on the point or not. This third application was too much.
If this post is about why Zeratul can’t use his to cap bosses, it’s because once he slaps it down nobody can stand on the point except for himself.
No iffs, ands, or buts, this function means that stopping a Zeratul cap is completely impossible. Medivh at least you can avoid lining up or something, Zeratul just does it.
VP was uncounterable plus VP stops the time for everything (including the capture point itself).
Leyline only stops the time for Heroes, can be dodged and countered by not standing all on capture point/in one line.
There’s.
Irc if i can plow the ennemy team so much that i can have a 5 sec leyline seal back chances i am better off with arcane charge or i dont even need to use the second ult charge at all.
