How to fix toxicity

There is no chatting in DOTA because it’s a solo game. There is no point in planning with your teammates. Players can safely AFK and their team can still win cause you can 1v5. The only chat I have seen is to flame others for KS’ing, going into their lane/space, or not not putting up wards.

People who AFK simply are trolling regardless of the game. AFKing in HOTS is the easiest and the safest way to troll.

A lot of what we both say is anecdotal. Since our experiences can vary, I said what I said because of how people behave in certain conditions.

If there is no punishment for being toxic, people will be more toxic.
You also said that people in HOTS fear communication because of the report system, thus less toxic. But still toxic.

It’s been a long time since I have played DOTA after logging in 1,000+ hours. In the time I have played DOTA I can safely say this is not the game for me because the community is sludge and the gameplay rewards selfish solo play while promoting the idea that if you play a carry hero, you somehow are entitled to order people around, rudely.

That is not here or there, but my theory stands that more freedom equals more toxicity.

It takes a lot to get silenced and banned in HOTS to the point where it is deemed your fault. I could say 90% (totally made up number) of players deserve it while others were screwed by the system. We have learned a few tricks to circumvent the system and increase, at least the fun factor of playing HOTS.

I have familiarized myself with plenty of games and know what they are like. To be specific will take too long to analyze each variation and compare is also pointless. HOTS is toxic and so is DOTA. Period.

How do you fix this problem?

This is a solid point. I’ve noticed many of those who complain about the system seem to be very aware of how it works. I’m not saying the system shouldn’t be improved, but if they know pretty much how it works, it’s rather easy to avoid being silenced.

Its an interesting concept. A child screaming loudly after several attempts to get what they want would be an example. They usually stop the behavior after extinction bursts, as long as you don’t reinforce it after the extinction burst (give them what they want)

Measly words shouldn’t be considered toxicity.
People get even more frustrated for being reported, and then they’ll grief, which is 10x worse.
Would you rather have one dude calling you a few mean words or play 4v5? lol

Apparently everyone would rather be 4v5 because they don’t understand the mute function, or can’t handle being told they suck, which says a lot about their character as much as it does to the person being “toxic”

Did they make it so you “muties” can’t use the mute button and / or report the offenders?

I mean clearly it works since your allies must have had to do it with you.

At least you can hope that the people that harassed you for being a mutie get silenced and make a forum post about it, but they usually have to be pretty toxic as a baseline to see that happen…

Please give crying babies what they want. Not only do the babies look awesome and cool but you look strong and respectable for caving to their whines and cries since they’re in control.

Yes.

If you say that is not true or cool then ur toxic

what are you even saying.
I don’t care about mean words, I don’t care about flaming, it means 0.
No one should be banned for typing, lmao.

You’re wasting your time with these " they’re toxic " crybaby 8 year olds. anything you do is toxic. These are the people that pick block butcher, or frostbolt build jaina and don’t even know how to aim. They walk around in circles doing nothing. Take camps while your team is fighting then wonder why you have 5 kills 10+ deaths and double or triple their damage, and blame you for the loss. when they are 0 - 3 - 2

because the people at blizzard are stupid and uncaring.

I have nothing to edit or delete. Its that simple. I already explained why. Your first silence usually takes a lot of reports to trigger you being silenced. Its not just by one 4 stack, which means you either need to change your behavior, or just accept the penalty.

I’m against the harsh report system, because even if you change your behavior, you still can get reported by a sensitive idiot and it’ll trigger more punishments even though you did nothing wrong. Once you get one silence, it takes less reports for you to get punished and then the number of reports needed for the next punishment get lower and lower.

I’ve played for over 5 years and I only got my first silence like 4 years into playing. I admittedly was pretty toxic in those first years once I understood more about the game, but it took 4 years for me to get my first silence? That means it takes more than one 4 stack for you to get silenced, which means you’re toxic a lot more than you think. I understand false reports are a thing, which sucks, but if you got silenced after a game where a 4 stack reported you, it means you’ve been reported multiple times before.

Lastly, how does it feel to not have the mental capacity to understand that it takes multiple reports to get action taken on your account? If you’re mentally capable, change your behavior so that you have a lower chance on getting reported and you’ll be able to keep playing on that account. If you don’t, you will keep getting reported often and eventually lose the account. Do I think permabans are good? No. I think they’re stupid, but saying I don’t have the mental capacity to change what I said instead of looking inward to reduce the reports against you says more about you than me.

You realize they literally will silence you for qouting things the characters say right? Then you people keep using the term " toxic " TOXIC HAS NO MEANING. Its a blanket term you people keep blurting around and does not matter.

they suspended you for saying anything like “How would we lose?” I literally have that in a suspension word list for these people.

Yeah, there’s a lot of stupid things you’d get reported for. But you can reduce the amount of reports you receive by changing how you speak, or even limiting speaking in general.

I hate how any strikes against your account are permanent and don’t erase over time, and so it makes it annoying when you still get reported for stupid things. But the sooner you change your behavior, the less reports you’ll receive and then the longer it’ll take for you to reach the amount of reports required for your next punishment.

Toxic is a very very overused word, and often used incorrectly. Saying “gg” isn’t toxic. Saying “you should have done this instead” isn’t toxic, but sensitive little babies see any comments towards them that aren’t praise as toxic and its really devalued the word, but oh well.

Even tho I think the report system targets smurfs more casue I have seen smurf accounts below lvl 30 which were silenced already.

Becasue we live in the social media generation were people get hot headed very fast insteed of just shake it off like most people did before. Even WoW has changed thier politics againts hate speetch like removing /spit from the emote bar and changing the way people are allowed to talk to one another.

Or just an another example. Youtube auto removing comments that are not positiv and hiding dislike button. We are soon moving to an utophia were nothing but positiv stuff are allowed and negativ stuff gets censured.

blizzard will ban your account for saying gg anyways.

Not that it target smurfs more, but that person is just THAT toxic. I’ve seen an account level 7 silenced in one of my matches months ago lmao. They probably get banned or suspended for a long time, so they make new accounts and just unleash all their anger there, getting silenced/banned faster :joy:

Yeah, but it’ll be quicker if you be rude.

Definitely. Being rude/afking/inting or whatever will increase your chances of getting reported and silenced/banned.

You just proved his point though…
