If they extended HotS to allow people mobile devices to also enjoy HoTS – like they do with Hearthstone, no problem with me.
The problem with DI lies primarilyy in being a cheap reskin for mobile only.

LOST VIKINGS?
I wish Blizzard success in whatever they do as I’ve been enjoying their games for decades now. Yet I’m very skeptical of all these mobile projects they talk about. If they want to explore new markets, then at least not do it at the expense of the games their main audience wants. At Blizzcon it was hard not to feel Diablo Immortal was develeped if not instead of a proper PC game, but at least at the expense of it.
The new Lost Vikings on mobile would actually be pretty cool. The game has levels for playing in small-medium portions of time and they aren’t fast-paced.
Lets see the PC base is what 20 million PC’s dedicated to gaming, number of phones across the world is over 500 million. You’re right stay with the smaller market and profit ???
It could be really good, actually.
But I doubt it’ll happen. Blizz made GBA ports of all their classics (Rock n’ Roll Racing, Blackthorne, and The Lost Vikings 1. Not sure about TLV 2), but my understanding is that they were horribly recieved.
I know GBA and mobile are completely different beasts, but maybe Blizz decided those games are outdated.
@OP: when he said “working on new mobile titles across all of our IPs”, I don’t think he meant “working on mobile for each and every one of our IPs” (I’m not sure if that would actually be implied 'cause english isn’t my first language, but I still don’t think he meant to say that).
Like others have said, I don’t have a problem with them making mobile games, as long as that doesn’t hinder development of the games we already know and love (i.e. hire more people, don’t split the already existing teams into current game and new game).
Obviouosly this projects didn’t start yesterday. I think it would be dumb of them to cancel all this ongoing projects because one game had a badly received reveal (in the US).
But then again, I don’t know the first thing about marketing and such.
It doesn’t work like that. Not everyone who has a phone plays or is even interested in playing games. Not all of these phones are capable of playing resource demanding games. Many people who actually play mobile games and get interested won’t stay devoted to this particular game. They might download it, play for a week or even month and leave it behind. And even if the game catches on, it can be left in the dust at any moment. Whereas the current PC player base is pretty loyal with their interests, through all the highs and lows.
Honestly, I don’t mind a company trying to expand into an area of the market that they haven’t really touched before. It’s in a companies interest that they try to expand, and it is true that there is money to be made in mobile… But if we can infer their general course from Diablo Immortal, I think they’re going about it the wrong way.
I don’t think they should try to directly port over the exact experiences of each IP to a mobile/tablet interface. Those games have to be scaled back in certain regards, and even then, there’s the massive battery drain. What’s more, people playing on Consoles and PC both will expect a certain level of control that just can’t be achieved with the mobile interface. So, again, Diablo Immortal is going the wrong way, providing the wrong experience to the wrong audience.
On the other hand, if they worked to bring fresh experiences that are both well-grounded in the source material AND specifically tailored to mobile’s strengths (simple interface, quick gameplay, ability to spontaneously stop and not lose much) developing games like Hearthstone that are each distinct, yet simple… Then they might have something.
Yes, I think about Heroes when I’m not in front of the computer. Sometimes I’ve wandered through an information app on my phone trying to understand heroes and their talent builds… I wouldn’t mind if a simple, yet clever, game were introduced that I could spend 10 minutes on in the breakroom… but Diablo Immortal is too close to the source material that I don’t wanna shell out the money to play something that would be so much easier on my PC back home.
I don’t know how D:I does in terms of quick play sessions, but my understanding is that the whole “work to the strengths of the platform” thing is kinda why they partnered with another company, one that has a lot of experience making mobile ARPGs.
I do wish they made a PC port, though. Even if it was a crappy game for PC standards, I just don’t like it when a game series spreads out into all the diferent platforms with entries exclusive to each. It makes it really difficult to follow such a series
I already mentioned this in the other topic but
I don’t even mind if they are making mobile games it’s natural progression to expand out but I do care if it’s going to hurt the main titles. HotS is already a side project how much more pushed to the side will it be if they are moving their top Devs to focus on the mobile department?
Fair enough… But I still find myself being shown commercials on YouTube that show off these awesome games on stores like Google Play and I don’t want that. It feels to me like the game is designed to be sat down and PLAYED, and not a time-killing sort of program that I can pop into and out of.
My criteria for a ‘good mobile game’:
Quick to load up.
Designed from the ground up to be a touchscreen interface.
Simple to grasp, hard to master.
I don’t have to focus so much that I ignore the world around me.
Don’t drain the battery.
I can suddenly quit and not lose much progress.
I think there’s a lot of potential for creating mobile games that link to the various IP in Blizzards catalog… I think Ubisoft has done well with that in the past with the games that tied into Assassins Creed (There were two games that tied into AC:B and AC4, you could do things that related to the missions minigame to get extra things in your main game)… But again, from the look of D:I, I don’t think that’s what Blizzard is attempting to do.
Do you not have phones?
Seriously though- they’re going full Konami pachinko here. If they made a mobile division that was effectively separate and didn’t brag they’re moving their good devs off of PC projects in order to do it- I would be fine.
But this is them saying they’re moving away from PC/console (ie- their actual playerbase, or us) to try to capture a playerbase that is much bigger, spends way more money… but again, isn’t us.
Blizz may well be dead right now- we may never be seeing another RTS, Diablo 4, or any new IPs like OW was.
They should have done mobile ports- RTS games are fine for mobile, a card game is fine for mobile… a moba or team shooter maybe not so much but I dunno, I don’t actually play mobile games cuz I’m a filthy PC/console player that Blizz suddenly finds disgusting.
I don’t care in the slightest about them making mobile games- I care more about what they won’t be making because of this new focus.
Don’t be a despicable liar, a quick Google search shows as of 2017 there are 1.22 billion PC gamers and 2.2 billion mobile gamers worldwide. Verify it yourself and stop trying to deceive everyone. Also surprise surprise not all games are suitable to play on a mobile device!!!
this game will always be best served on pc. let them make more money and expand, hoping they do not take from current work force. hope that it allows them to expand funding on pc if so.
As if a multi-bullion dollar gaming company needs to expand funding to make games. They do it to expand the already deep pockets of certain people.

We’re moving into the age of the mobile game. Sadly, this will be Blizzards downfall.
The only mobile games I play are Marvel Strike Force and Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links, but I hardly play on them anywhere close to my console or PC gaming. I might check one of them out, but I’m not really hyped at all for it.
I like any TLV Main, because they are underestimated and amazing
it feels like this statement’s context was not fully understood. the implication was that Blizzard is working on mobile games across all of their IPs (aka mobile games are being made using things from all over their collection of IPs). it’s important to remember that Blizzard IPs are things like Warcraft, StarCraft, Overwatch, etc.
Hots is more of a crossover of various Blizzard IPs so I don’t think we’d be getting some kind of HOTS mobile. Think of it like a Smash game. For the more recent ones, some of cast isn’t actually owned by Nintendo (such as Snake, Sonic, Cloud) so while Nintendo can own the Smash franchise, they do not own the Intellectual Property for some of the characters.
In the same vain, Blizzard runs HOTS and also owns the IP for all characters used. However HOTS itself is not really an IP in the context used here imo. It more than likely just refers to things from starcraft, warcraft, OW, etc and nothing more.
