THAT’S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU TAKE CONVECTION, BOI!! SIT YO !@# DOWN!!!
I love destroying beautiful things too.
Personally I take it because A. those types of talents are fun to me.
and B. because 200 damage on everyone hit by the Q isn’t awful, especially if you get the other Q talents.
The shield is great don’t get me wrong, but I don’t find mana management hard on Kael.

convection in single lane brawl is awesome,
i take it every time i’m KT and there has been one and only one game were i didn’t complete it within the first few minutes and then enjoy the juicy big dmg!
Never, ever, pick Convection without checking the team comps and map.
Here’s a score scale you can use to determine whether to pick Convection. If your final score is negative, don’t pick Convection. If it’s positive, feel free.
Start at 0 and add or subtract points accordingly.
Maps:
+2 for 2-lane maps
+1 for cramped maps
-1 for very large or open maps
Your team comp:
+2 for every main tank
+1 for every off-tank/bruiser
-2 for having none
+2 for 1 healer
+1 for 2 healers
-1 for no healers
-2 for every healer over 2
+1 for having 1-2 other damage dealers
-1 for having 0 or 3-4 other damage dealers
+2 for CC heavy heroes
Enemy team comp:
-3 for every hard diver/flanker/finisher
-2 for every long-extreme range hero
+1 for every melee hero or tank
-1 for every CC heavy hero
-1 for every mage
-1 for every non-diver chaser
This isn’t 100% accurate, of course, but I usually go by a more general version of this when deciding whether to pick Convection or not.
SHHHH. We want to keep mana addict a secret. I always breathe a sigh of relief when I see Kael’Thas on the enemy team pick convection. Most of the time he’ll just sit in the back row and throw out an empowered flamestrike (D Q) once in a while (every 7 seconds).
thats enough said. Your reply should end here
Convection’s winrate is higher than Mana Addict’s. It’s the better talent, but only if you know what you’re doing and you aren’t picking it into a Genji/Valeera/Muradin hitsquad.
only when looking at all leagues or lower level play.
in Masters, over the past month:
mana addict has an 83.7% pickrate and 54.2% winrate.
convection has a 12.3% pickrate and no listed winrate (indicating that it’s picked so little, no winrate has been formed on HOTSLOG).
Therefore, OP is correct and the numbers back it up in skilled play.
I would strongly recommend against ever using just Masters for any stats. It’s too small a sample size, as illustrated by the lack of a winrate listed and the fact that only 69 games with Convection have been registered. Lump in Diamond too if you want a workable data set, as that expands your sample size from about 450 games to almost 3,000.
In Diamond and Masters, Convection has a 36.2% pickrate to Mana Addict’s 56.6%, but it’s winrate is still higher, 53.4% to 51.8%.

not a small sample size at all. in comparison to the rest of the playerbase sure but all that matters is that this is skilled play and there is enough data to show that Masters don’t even take convection enough to matter, mostly because it’s not as good as people think it is.

there are around 7 times as many diamond players as there are masters, making master data almost totally irrelevant in this data lumping. this is why you shouldn’t do it and why it’s not an accurate measure of how strong things really are. it also assumes that the difference between diamonds and masters isn’t much (we know this is false).

Who cares? this isn’t a legitimate set of data to work with as the overwhelming majority of these stats aren’t from Master players.
Just because people don’t pick a talent very much doesn’t automatically make it the weaker talent. Arty’s Psionic Wound used to have less than half the pickrate of Titan Killer, but its winrate was about 2-3% higher overall. Just because people don’t use it doesn’t mean it is bad by default.
If you don’t have any data to work with, you can’t draw conclusions from it. You cannot conclude that because Convection has no winrate listed, it must have a lower winrate than another talent that does have a listed winrate. You have no evidence to back up that claim.
Dismissing the only complete set of data we have out of hand because it disproves your claim doesn’t make it any less relevant. Just because you don’t have any evidence doesn’t mean mine is automatically disqualified.
And I could far more justly dismiss your claim that Masters is all that matters because the vast majority of players do not fit into that category. In fact, according to you:
Masters almost doesn’t matter at all, because it’s such a negligible portion of the overall playerbase. Even if, and that is a very big “if,” Convection is the worse choice at Masters, it is clearly the superior talent at almost every other level, which is what matters to the vast majority of players.
One thing I have noticed, when I take convection I average less than one death a game, with mana addict it’s just over one. Rather it’s me being safer or picking it vs divers is the question. The extra damage at level 20 is between 10-15% health from a squishy. That is a big deal. In my exp most keals either have no clue how too play them or have no resource control. If you are running oom on keal before an objective, there had better have been a team fight
Mana addict’s quest is just so integral to Kael as a hero with its shield that I almost think it should be made a baseline quest like how Jaina has her iceblock quest.
now, this would need some sort of knock somewhere since this would be a buff out of nowhere if he just got it baseline with nothing else changed, but it kind of feels like it kills diversity when something feels “vital” to a character.
I play Kael a lot. Just quickmatch, but still.
On average I finish the quest by level eight, if the enemy team is obsessed with grouping in team fights i’ve done it by level 2. teams that spread however can make It proc later, and another talent might be a better choice, though teams that spread in general suck for Kael.
Smartly played, Kael should watch his mana as objectives begin to pop up. I will admit however that with convection unfinished i’m much more likely to abandon fights instead of trying my luck.
There’s good use for both of the other two talents. +4 spell power is pretty much a permanent level ahead in ability damage. A fine pick if you think the enemy team will spread living bomb a good bit.
The mana shield can save your butt in fights, let you escape dives, and allow you to land living bomb safely.
For the output of dps, Convection isn’t worth it tbh. it’s doesn’t offer much pressure unlike Mana Addict.
And yet a year ago it was the seemingly must pick this. It was like 80% of people on Hotslogs (and of course popularty breeds copycats) thought it was awesome till some pro player explained why the other was better.
Mana Addict lets you spam your spells more, and eventually allows you to position more aggressively so you can do damage safely.
Convection immediately makes you a target, which your team can use to your advantage. Or does no one want to talk about all the times people suicide while trying to kill the 17 stack KT before he finishes his quest early?
