I’m not sure it’s a problem.
Had two cases of spam ping over the last two weeks.
One was a funny Varian who was semi-AFK, and whenever he died in the solo lane, he would ping me (the tank) who was obviously elsewhere. Or when I was there. But, things did work out so I didn’t care much.
Yesterday I was playing with a smurf account, who is Gold 5. Had a really rough first match (as Valla against Garrosh, Varian, Zul’jin, Illidan, Li Li) and she was really unhappy about my performance. And that I didn’t pick the 16% winrate build (I always win first immortal - we did, too - and then lose everything else thereafter), but chose the 50% build enabling me to stay alive, contribute and eventually win hard.
So next draft she said funny things, overloading my sarcasm-o-meter. He took dps and I was relegated to tanking duty, and as karma goes, I was promptly missing every single thing the entire game (reducing my score to 8:4 on Anub). Now, she was pinging, too. And that behavior was toxic. And distracting. I’m sure the chat was full of how bad I am and how I took the wrong ult. Her damage didn’t win the game. I wish we did, but I was just as happy this way.
Whenever I see someone pinging a person 2+ times in a stream, the streamer always mutes. Quadrouple pings every 30 seconds are very obviously report material.
Nah, I was distracted.
I was actually trying to prove that I’m not that bad, but managed to prove otherwise in the process. Anub isn’t hard but susceptible to side steps, and prediction of side steps. Also climbed quite a bit the last week, have to adjust.
I’m just saying that karma is a b…enevolent thing for everyone.
And, being a toxic rager playing well is an empty ego trip. Yes, you are shining, but you are reducing your team’s abilities and as such causing a loss. There is not much difference between distracting your team and just jumping under enemy towers and feeding. Makes it a 4v5 either way (4x0.75+1)
And by rough match I mean this: https://www.heroesprofile.com/Match/Single/?replayID=35217756
This is not new. I remember Dr.Logan telling us about he played with a streamer in SL one day and he told the streamer which heroes to ban but insteed of doing what he said he just put him on ignore and just banned the heroes he wanted banned.
On top of that his stream users also mocked Logan cause they know him from Reddit.
Most streamers just do what is needed to please his own fanbase even if that says he has to report/mute an innocent player.
It’s funny how you got “banned unfairly” with barely a peep. I’ve been playing the game for 6 years while being no angle in game chat, and have never once gotten silenced or banned.
Something smells fishy here and it’s not Blizzards misuse of the ban hammer.
Consider this. The “pinger” may be actually on the right, a really good player that just wants to gather his team’s attention to whatever need at any moment, while the “anti-pinger” may be this other guy that is kinda’ lost in the match, yet, somehow, his feelings get hurt and he is afraid of every single time a weird visual/sound effect is done (the ping itself) and therefore hates pings overall.
Having the anti-pinger the ability to “mute” all pings is only going to be worse for the whole team, it renders useless the vigilant observations of the good player and makes the worse player even more oblivious of the match. (Not saying this is always the case, there are indeed ping-abusers as well, but please stay with me on this one).
Giving the option to simply mute stuff is never going to work, is not the good/right solution (as you well said), is just a mediocre band-aid to a bigger wound.
However, giving limited pings per player per match may be the best answer! or at least work way better (let’s say, 50 pings). This way the observant player can still warn his teammates, the pinger-abuser can’t abuse it (since he will run out of pings if he abuses it!!), and the will not have to face those scary sounds of the ping so often, helping him grow a skin and understand that if a wild-ping appears, is most probably a friendly-warning for his own good. Is a total win-win for everyone.
And people have the right to report those people who ignore pings that could have saved him from a gank and just keep on afk pushing lanes. Or just ignore pings in general cause he dont like to get told what to do.
I agree with this fully. If people can’t handle harsh language then don’t get on the internet. I mean, any remember what facebook was like in 2009 before they had A.I. censoring everything? I and I know a lot of others, liked fb pre censoring everything. You could say whatever you wanted without getting in trouble. I personally believe that is how the internet should be. If we truly have free speech then we should have absolute free speech and let people say whatever the hell they want to say. I don’t care if someone likes what I say or don’t say. I don’t care if people are toxic or not. This is a competitive game and people try their hardest and some people get mad in a competitive game. That’s literally human nature. So when someone gets mad and talks about why they are mad, now they want to penalize people for that. That would go completely against human nature. Let people be free to be themselves completely.
If report system gets removed what you think would happen then ??
Then toxic players will run rampart . People are free to say what they want since that is what freedom of speech is all about but then you should also take responsibility for your actions and take your punishment when action is taken on you.
This is not the wild west were you can do what you want and make the game a lawless country. Report system was made to stop toxic players from running rampers with thier lawless additude and careless opinions towards thier team.
Remove report system and you will see how half the playerbase would just leave and uninstall cause toxic players now rules the game.
How do you think a game like Dota 2 and LOL would be were toxity is 10 times more harsh then here have thier report system removed. Then they would lose players too since no one want to play games were rude players gets thier way.
But nice idea you got. A good idea to finally destroy the little fun there are left in this game and other games.
Absolutely!!!
…But “right to ignore” =/= complain and report whoever does so.
People who complain about pings should only ignore them, with maturity by themselves. Not force a closure in essential communication in a team based game. That’s all I’m saying. “Muting pings” does more harm to everyone (including ping-haters) than not. Let the pings be. Limit them if necessary to avoid abuse, but pings should always stay for everyone, they like them or not.
True. It needs to be remembered though it’s against forum Code of Conduct to present any direct evidence regarding account actions.
This mean tickets from GM’s or any kind of correspondence that might give evidence to support a claim of innocence, is not allowed to be presented on the forums. I was friends with some lifetime Master players who quit the game between 2018 and 2020. They quit in part due to the report system, a couple of them who were silenced deserved it, the majority didn’t.
I would love to be able to show the tickets they received from GM’s in full or even part, but that would get me silenced or banned. The tickets were eye opening for me as I has always thought anyone who got silenced, no doubt deserved it.
Looking over the tickets I was wrong to think this way, the rules cited regarding what is “abusive speech” are deliberately so broad typing anything at all could get you banned. I can say the GM admitted to my friend they said nothing specifically abusive they could quote from logs, but as the players felt it was abusive, that was enough to punish him.
This is why accounts need account forgiveness. Even league does this system nowadyas after a certain period of time. But this game is ran by bots so they wont do anything to make any real changes.
the game has been growing slowly, so the “wait till the population is low enough to do it manually” wont really work
Also blizzard says they will punish false reporters but they wont, how i know is because i did a WHOLE week in OW where i would report EVERYONE on both teams for abusive chat. i got ALOT of notifications of actions done on those reports then did a post on the OVERWATCH forums saying i did all those false reports and got all those notifcations without any punishment as well as how easily it is to abuse the report system
