I don’t talk about negative things only. If developers do something good (Xul rework as example), I try to make good comments.
Development founding doesn’t work the way you think it does in a company like blizzard. The developers working on this are employed with full time contracts. That means they get the same amount of money if they rework everything or if they do nothing. So funding has nothing to do with this.
I can entirely buy that somebody held a presentation or a few highlighing the cost and time savings if they use the already compelte and “highly functional” SC2 netcode.
Management tend to love when they can cut corners this way.
Turned out to be a trap though as developers said making a more modern netcode would require effectively rebuilding the game. Making a new game, you could say.
noo i meant like actual funding. they ARE paid but the number of (THEY) is like 3. they don’t invest in the game ITSELF not the salary of the devs ( i hope they don’t temper with them too tho )
If they can’t even afford to update forum avatar [there is still no qhira or dw] they sure as heck wont update the game engine lol
There’s quite a few possible reasons that we’ll never know unless someone on the dev team at that time speaks up about it. Funding isn’t “here’s money, do a thing!”, it’s more “here’s money for this thing, and some money for that thing, and money for this too”.
Making a new engine implies having a software engineer moved from another project or funding for a new hire. A senior software engineer is a significant salary and might not have been possible with the scale of the project at the time.
Whom else to nag?
It’s their job to be criticized or praised. We criticize the game here - they read it and move the problems upwards if need be.
Just giving up and sitting on your butt saying that there’s no use complaining - changes nothing. Arguably, in HOTS case complaining also does nothing - but it’s better than just giving up.
I’m pretty sure the people who see about forums avatars and the people who would see to the engine are different teams… Or were, before the HotS team got downsized.
Leaving the forums aside, they haven’t even updated their own website yet!
That page still shows Tassadar as Support, with his old abilities.
I guess they have bigger priorities at the moment
Aaaaand?
Your point is?
It is still directly Blizzard’s fault for making that decision. Some person at Blizzard MADE A DECISION. It didn’t just happen out of the blue.
And I also really REALLY don’t think that the awkward reconnect mechanics is unfixeable. That you can’t keep 95% of the engine and re-work the 5% that handle reconnecting.
HOTS team was very well funded for several years, and they didn’t do it.
So my criticism and blaming stands strong. This is a MAJOR fail in a game that wants to be an e-sports to have a broken, unnecessary “Fast-rewind” kind of reconnect that take literal minutes towards the end of the match.
There is NO EXCUSE for that.
My point is you’re blaming Heroes’ dev team for something that might possibly have been out of their hands. You’re making assumptions about something you have no understanding of.
First of all - I am a software developer, and I have a rather deep understanding of software.
Secondly - you have no understanding that it is NOT their fault either. So what now? We blame no one at all, because we don’t know for definite who screwed up?
Thirdly - it is not your place to defend anyone here. Blizzard are all big boys. They can handle criticism and blaming, especially deserved ones.
I honestly don’t know whom, do you think, your white-knighting helps? Because that’s what it is. You’re playing a White Knight for unknown reasons.
Does that make the game better?
Will the game become better if we stop complaining about idiotic matchmaker?
No.
You’re throwing a tantrum on assumptions, I don’t think pointing that out is white knighting.
Obvious but pointless as a fix, given how non-lifesteal version was around earlier and had the same problems as the previous version (never used outside of niche comps with a hypercarry needing a shieldbot).
You are aware there are also people who did know what Tassadar could do, but simply didn’t like it and therefore didn’t play him? You don’t have the monopoly on knowledge on Tassadar just because you liked his previous kit.
I’m not sure why you’re surprised they listened to people not maining/playing/liking Tassadar, given how that group included just about everyone.
Aren’t you? Throwing a tantrum on assumptions?
Also, you didn’t answer the question. What do you want from us, and how will it make HOTS better?
I’m pretty sure this has to do with the way the games exist on the servers. You currently have to replay the whole match up to the current time whenever you reconnect. It’s more of a recording of all commands so far issued that you have to sync with, and not just a matter of connecting to a live feed. The current implementation is probably very cheap to run on fewer servers.
I’m not sure they could afford switching to a different implementation with more hardware. So this is probably budget related, at least now. No idea why they didn’t originally do it the other way. Probably just increasing profit margins.
I think I read somewhere that it was to prevent cheating (same reason why Starcraft 2 -which they based HotS on- did it).
Can’t remember where I read it, though. So take it with a grain of salt.
I always have, and always will blame Activision for everything. In my heart of hearts, Blizzard-senpai is pure as the freshfallen snow, and nothing can change that.
That said, no one thing can be the cause of all problems. There just isn’t anything that omnipotent.
I gave you a like and agree that people shouldn’t complain about every detail and especially shouldn’t be disrespectful toward the Devs.
However, these forums are here to discuss perceived problems, valid or not. I would hate to see the forum just turn into a group of sycophants who either remain silent or only praise changes made.
The Devs have said they read the forums and for better or worse some changes made are the result of feedback given here. There just needs to be a balance between petty “nagging” as you put it and respectful feedback. A pretty tricky balancing act it would seem.
i never said we should stop complaining overall. but i said we should stop EXCESSIVE complaining. as in, making 80 threads about tracer. criticism is very important to improve, but this is just disrespectful. none of us know what the situation in the HOTS headquarters is so we should not make things worse. if we actually love this game then we have fun with the good things in it, not make emultiple threads for no reason but annoy everyone.
this thread is about excessive complaining, not complaining in general.
ps: i never knew you were a software developer Aax. what programming languages do u use ?
Yeah I know, I just was giving a counterpoint. I don’t really understand the complaint posts, I’ve never made one. The closest to it was a thread I made to being a complaint was asking why the damage taken stat was removed.
