It even refrences accuracy.
Or sniping low health enemies from across the map!
That is the life of Ana.
imo, Ana has a more active playstyle… but she also requires more skill to play. so that can detract from fun since if you arent very good with high skill cap heroes then you could find yourself losing a lot.
Alex, is pretty much point and click. she has a low skill cap. so that really you just need to worry about the gameplay itself and making good decisions.
personally, even though i like Ana… i really dont want to use her very much. its not even because i cant use high skill heroes either. i am really good with things like that. its just for what she does i can pick another healer and do better. her only real plus that gives her a niche is the 100% reduced healing.
I play all supports except Stukov and Malfurion. Of these two I like Alex more, because he has more playable builds (practically all talents are good), and he has more interesting (in my opinion) mechanics. It makes me get more pleasure from playing the queen of dragons.
Ana is cool and strong, but build under “W” is very situational, while build under “Q-E” is boring.
However, the blizzard at yesterday’s AMA mentioned that they are planning a small rework for Ana - level 1.
Playing a lot of Ana, I’d have to disagree with the skill cap. It is not necessarily higher than Alex’s.
If you speak purely mechanics, yes, you are correct. One hero is all about skill shots, while the other has a point and click and a mass aoe heal.
I’d like to say though that Alex requires more skill in decision making and positioning. With Ana, the majority of the time you just stand back the furthest that allows you to still reach your frontline. Then you spam Q on your mates that need heals. Occasionally, you try to hit a sleep or throw a grenade.
Alex on the other hand needs to constantly balance where she drops the circle, if she can join the frontline circle for own heals, if she walks to Frontline to collect the flower, when to pop her DQ; in which case she also needs to walk up to the frontline to aa.
I am always impressed by good Alex players, because I suck with her for the constant weighting of options. Mechanical Ana is no problem for me.
Ana’s satisfaction comes from great frustration lol. You are always trying to position properly to heal the allies that need it vs the ones that don’t and on top of that you have to contend with your team doing triple axles and toe loops avoiding your heal darts. That being said her healing potential is amazing and scales very well with lvls/talents.
Her utility gives her great agency in team fights. Sleep dart w/ quest upgrade can swing the fight on its own if you hit 2 heroes. The trait w/ dmg reduction talent is great. The grenade is low key awesome. The soft cleanse at lvl 13 is crucial. If you’re playing Ana correctly it really feels like you aren’t just a support you’re like this machiavellian tactician surgically dismantling the enemy team while keeping your pieces healthy. It’s very rewarding.
Alex can also be rewarding too though personally I don’t think it’s on the same lvl as Ana can be. Play style wise she has a lot of decision making to do on where you put the AoE heal or when to pop trait or go ult. It’s not so cut and dry and she has some nasty combos for great healing throughput and area control. + You get to be a dragon. That alone is cool so I dunno. It’s up to you.
Ana. Her positioning, her healing requiring accurate moment to moment engagement… Like Overwatch she’s arguably one of the most demanding healers but tons of fun.
I disagree strongly here.
As a first, standing way back makes you way more vulnerable for divers as your team is further away. Further, any decent any should try to use her damage reduction abilities which both require going way closer as neither the dart nor the auto attacks have the same range as your Q/E.
