I don’t know about AI because I don’t particularly plan to play bruiser. It’s a funny point because the time spent in AI is time lost, but the SL matches are also time lost, except for the free win later.
Also I’m reluctant to consider AI match because once I had a match where I tested my Kael’thas. I did 300k siege, 150k hero damage, 15 kills, and it was a loss (full AI to be fair). “I’m so bad I can’t even win against AI!” Yet I’m eating people in SL with KT. So I’d need 10-30 matches to get a grip.
Dunno, will sleep on the idea anyway. I understand the advice.
Lost another as Varian, it was a funny one.
It went well until about 13-15, by when team started throwing, got killed cheese (Artanis swap from a bush), I was compelled to make up for it, and then the team kept dying in a 3v5 until it was lost badly. HP scored me team 2nd in performance even like that. Just FML.
No wonder I have 1000 MMR difference between my overall and hero MMR. There is 420 between Silver 5 and Master.
Given my winstreaks and loss streaks, this whole thing might still be just bad luck.
Test your combos

Samuro use samuro as most of the dmg/gapcloser not his clones
I would let people know that you are not very good on bruiser if you continue to play SL. A friendly message at the start saying you will fill but would prefer someone else play bruiser because you’re not confident should work.
As for improving? Take some time to play each bruiser either in QM or AI to find a few who fit you best. Start practicing with them in games and learn their strengths and weaknesses. That means figuring out counters to watch out for, which maps they thrive on and what your team will need to help impower your pick.
Some of it may the bruisers you are playing. Both Sonya and Varian are solid picks, but they both suffer the Artanis syndrome, you have to go in it to win it. There is no backing down once you commit and if you or your team makes a mistake, you are the one paying for it. This makes it much harder to use them in a team fight, as you will either be too hesitant (from getting blown up in the past), or too aggressive and die.
You may want to try Leoric for a while, as he can Wraith Walk out of a bad situation, and if he does die, it doesn’t carry the same sort of penalty as dying on any of the other bruisers. Tyrael and Blaze in their bruiser builds are other good options.
Playing a bruiser is all about positioning and rotations. You have to watch the mini-map constantly to know where you need to be, where you should not be, and where you should think about going next. It is on of my favorite roles because of this mental chess game.
Also, feel free to share a replay if you want some specific advice. Good luck!
It is nice indeed, but I would say it isn’t needed at least for me, just use your tags right to show what your roles you are good with and I am happy. The role tags are ingame for a reason I am glad, if people would use and acknowledge them and there is one thing I despite more in ranked, when you have a player, who use the golden healer tag, but prepicks assassines.
Okay one thing: no prepick until the last few seconds and then insta pick an unneeded role, usually assassine.
I played a few Elite AI matches after all.
Varian was easy and easier, Sonya first was lost the second was easy.
I wonder if I could replay that loss I could make it work, as it was also a difficult matchup on a non fitting map. Still, one should win against AI, right?
Sure thing, I never said you should play against AI and win. I said you should fight the AI alone and win the fight. And try to see how much your Hero can handle.
But if that’s already too easy, go play QM, pls don’t ruin ranked matches for ppl as “I’m learning, sry”.
I have played a lot of bruishers recently and the key point is to know when to engage and go back which each one.
To start getting familiar with the role i recommend to pick heroes like sonya, thrall and so on that have good engages, sustain or poke.
The thing is you dont want to go full in at any moment, you just wait the perfect time so your team can follow. Sometimes you dont have to engage and just stay around to peel your backline, keeping them safe.
No worries, my main point was that I got the advice.
Just for comparison’s sake I played a match with Tassadar.
Okay, I had a nice rant here, but I should rather just say, it was discouraging and disillusioning. There are some matches where no amount of awesome can win. But that goes both ways, likely.
ps.: Try the other Ragnaros ult. It’s really good.
ps2.: Silly things aside, solo AI is better than I remembered. My stereotype is winning between level 11 and 13 with 3 levels advantage, but it takes longer
