If by bury you construe that as “reorder the posts so they are no longer chronological” then Reddit is the only platform that does this.
When I say bury, I mean obscure the post, which is what downvotes most certainly did.
Whether or not you want to change the language is irrelevant, the old downvote system would darken posts, and eventually hide them altogether. This is an irrefutable objective fact that isn’t up for debate.
I can also tell you that they were never intended to be a form of disagreement, which is why they’re gone altogether.
