The game doesn’t offend, the makers do. It’s more like walking into a store and having the shopkeeper sneer at your preferences, give you the middle finger and replace some of your goods with stuff he chose while you’re buying stuff.
The current devs are an entirely new team from the original at HS release. It’s obvious they just aren’t that good at making games and increasingly obvious they’re getting more and more salty that they couldn’t leave their mark, so they tend to vent their frustration at their own players and refuse to acknowledge their mistakes.
If they’re that easily offended by their customers, they might have some issues.
I have to assume that’s only because they’ve posted it a million times.
This random random brawl is not new at all, the first time they did it was years ago and it had the same joke in the description back then, and it was absolutely a jab at the players. It was near the beginning of their doubling down on their “randomly random a random random” card design approach and it was already a meme.
Oh damn, welcome back Lyrist, haven’t seen you in a while.
On the topic of the thread, isn’t the whole point of tavern brawls to have a fun wacky time and get a pack at the end? Usually RNG brawls are the wackiest you can get, atleast imo,
Yes, but the whiner contingent is more dedicated to continuing to play and finding ways to complain about a game that they think is deliberately designed to make them feel bad.
…which you like to play.
I personally really enjoy it. Especially all the crazy RNG and Discover stuff.
Did you ever consider that there might be people out there that like exactly that kind of stuff and that’s the reason they do it? Maybe something worth thinking about.
I had 1 of the most hilarious victories ever this Brawl. Much earlier in the game, my opponent played Ancient Shade.
Many turns later, I had my opponent to lethal, but they managed to buy a turn with Death Coil. But then in that same turn my opponent played Grand Archivist and guess what Spell it randomly cast from their deck: Ancient Curse! Putting my opponent nicely back into lethal range.
One of the best and most well received sets ever was league of explorers, which while it did have RNG it wasn’t on a lot of cards relatively speaking and that randomness was subdued by either giving the player some modicum of control over the outcome and by giving both players a meaningful idea of what the range of possibilities was. The set introduced discover, which has RNG baked into it, but they give you a choice of 1 of 3 random things AND limit the range of those things by explicitly saying it can only be a 1 cost card, or it can only be a mage spell, etc… And there were no swingy cards like “put a random thing into play” or “your random thing is free or 3 mana less to cast or something” so you could randomly get a giant play for free and steamroll the opponent because you got lucky. The bigger the relative range and power of the RNG, the more expensive it was generally. That was a way better time in the game’s history, but it was unfortunately stepped on by swingy cards like mysterious challenger which annoyingly swept games by putting a bunch of trash in play for free as long as you got it on curve and didn’t draw a bunch of your secrets.
but
Sure and I’m okay with that to a degree… however the devs KNOW how much the community has been rawrring about too much RNG and then they go and put this up?? It’s poor taste at the very best and definitely feels like a slap in the face to long term players.
but it isnt ! and why would it be ?
many of us love the rng cards !
and this brawl is for us !!!
Those same players have been playing for years while often raging about how every meta is the worst meta since video games were invented.
Clearly, they like the abuse.
Or they are helplessly locked in a terrible addiction cycle.
I don’t believe anybody truly LIKES the abuse.
well…except for the Warlocks…and masochists…
Who knows just how large of a slice of the playerbase pie this encompasses?
I prefer to give folks the benefit of the doubt lol
I played a couple of brawls this week and thought I was playing standard
when i read this it made me think on this thread
