That’s the reason priest is one of the best competitive decks by far and large. Period. In gm, in high (top 200) legend, people who want to win play priest. At times even if they blatantly hate the class. Pros cringe but still play priest because it’s overtuned.
You sound like you’re not playing the game at all. Go play bomb warrior in the good ranks and tell me how badly it beats priests with lazule, sticky and ooze in their decks, which they also spam with raise dead lmao. Priest is in a freaking fantastic spot. 2 mana wave of apathy won’t kill the control archetype.
That deck should also be adjusted after the druid nerfs. But priest has an extremely easy time teching against both dh and warrior and ayy lmao’s at other archetypes barring, perhaps, mage solely because mage is a scam deck that can scam its way out of any situation. And shaman of course. The nonexistent shaman oppressing poor priests.
Sticky and ooze aren’t rocket science. Especially when, once again, raise dead makes any control and value generating minions for priest feel that much better.
I’ll have to agree with you here. I tried to play control Warrior and got simply crushed in several games vs Priest. Their card generation is insane and they never ran out of cards. : l
That doesn’t mean priest doesn’t have a whole bunch of blatantly overpowered cards, wave of apathy being one of them, and doesn’t have a whole bunch of mechanics they abuse. Priest in its current state also feels godawful to play against and the devs do take “fun” into consideration.
Control priest won’t die with wave of apathy at 2 mana. They still have their raise dead fiesta and apo.
Tempo casino mage would die without sorc meanwhile but honestly? That would be a good riddance.
It lets priest yoink literally any minion the warrior may play cheaply and efficiently, obviously. The more minions a priest has the easier it is to stick an Apo.
But that’s not the point. I specifically explained, as someone who actually plays the game at the highest rank, that priests easily tech against any weapon archetypes and their raise dead abuse mechanic plays into that perfectly as well.
Warrior players aren’t the only ones who know how to mulligan. A priest will mulligan for his tech, apo and raise dead like the “genius” they are lmao.
In the worst case scenario (both cache and weapons near the bottom of the deck and no weapon removal in priest’s deck at all) priest always wins by the way.
Except that the more you tech for one matchup, the worse your other matchups become (the Tech Trap Card). So for ladder, teching for specific matchups actually makes a deck’s overall performance worse. Which is why Priest was so slow to improve after each previous set of nerfs. And the best-performing Priest lists on ladder are often the ones with the fewest tech cards, precisely because they’re the most flexible ones.
And even then they barely make it to the top of tier 3.
Priest’s control kit is too good and synergetic and the weapon removal cards in the form of battlecry minions directly fit the priest’s survival and control plan as well, and are incredible with raise dead. Priest doesn’t lose anything by teching weapon removal, it just all but guarantees a win against matchups that would otherwise tickle it, maybe to death. I played several priests in my legend climb this season in the first two days (am already legend) and all of them had weapon removal (duh) that always worked. I even switched off of DH because DH against higher mmr priests and broom paladins felt plain unfun to play despite the general lack of druid.
Except it doesn’t. Priest easily slots weapon removal in without losing any crucial cards, breaking synergies or contradicting their usual (control) game plan.
Did you think control warrior was a bad deck for running weapon removal? Lmao.
That’s why diamond is full of priests the moment the season starts and people start climbing to legend? It’s the second most popular class after DH now in that aspect. That’s why the top (200) legend is full of priests? That’s why last season the top legend on any server was basically priest mirror into priest mirror?
Please, actually play the game competitively. Or watch the pros if you can’t get there yourself. Priest is one of the best competitive decks and it’s blatantly overtuned.
