Honestly, we can argue indefinitely about whose perspective matters, what statistics (if any) are indicative of a “good” game, etc. This is a subjective matter almost entirely. For me, reading that while he was with the game, problems would exist for months because (for whatever reason) balance patches were used sparingly… I do not care if more players played then and or had spent more money at the time. That sounds like a game I wouldn’t enjoy, or in other words, a bad game if I weren’t having to worry about literalists distorting what would otherwise be a basic and general critique of the game as I’ve seen it described when Brode was in charge.
I would like to see blood dk being warriored into the ground. The games against thisvdeck are painful and boring. I’m not gonna miss it.
Construct Quarter is a ridiculous value generator, DR trigger and corpse generator. It’s a crazy location you want in every DK deck outside of a pure spell burn frost but that deck isn’t nearly as good as the minion frost burn deck. Even at two uses i still think it’s well worth playing.
Banshee to 5 health i could see and riper becoming a 2/2 seems reasonable. I doubt they touch vampiric touch. It’s a major identity spell for the blood DK decks. I’m still unsure what is the best way to deal with Fury at this point since the good frost DK decks are playing board based to give themselves breathing room. The Fury can be used as a clearing/freeze tool just as effectively as going face in those decks.
I haven’t checked the numbers, but isn’t HS still a commercial success? Even if it’s not the highest in years, the fact is that it’s still going on is an accomplishment.
Ditto WoW, the other game that the community loves to say that current expansion is the worst expansion ever.
Yes. I didn’t mean it as a “Brode vs not Brode” thing so much as a “he didn’t sink the ship” thing.
It’s still relevant but Marvel Snap is clobbering them in total overall sales. The reports from the end of last year had HS dropping off massively. Probably the reason they dialed back their tournament and streaming support massively this year.
At 4 mana I think quarter is really underwhelming until the second-third charge which takes forever to get to. Unless you hit the egg or an actual 1/1 with it. (Like a hawkstrider) I’m not surprised they made the nerf, though, its an easy target. Don’t believe it’s a power outlier either?
I can’t see them just leaving in the banshee-blood combo. A 1 health cut is fine for the card otherwise, but banshee-blood is unreal.
I forgot about frigidara too. I expect that to get hit. Its the highest win rate card in the deck I believe. Shave some stats off and I think she’s fine.
Fury, I think they’ll probably just bump up to 8 mana if they nerf it. There’re better nerfs, but thats the sort of nerf they like to make.
I can see cutting quarter now having played it enough with two charges. Losing that third charge is bigger than expected. There’s better cards to fit into the deck now over it for sure and really i think at that point you rethink the egg package.
I think the best way to fix that banshee combo is just reword Vampiric to say something like. “Set your health total 5 points higher”. That way the Banshee cannot trigger off of it. I cannot believe their intent was ever to allow that broken combo to exist.
Fury to 8 seems like a safe bet but i would leave Frigidara alone since it’s a 2 rune card. It still only goes into pure frost unless you are using it for pure draw but DK has no problem just pure drawing.
I mean, it’s slightly annoying that cards that discount things in your deck apply to the cards in your deck now, but cards that discount themselves stay at that Mana point until in your hand.
It’s not that it was messy.
It’s that the development team was tiny. People complain about the limited play testing (I usually don’t, but it could be better). Back in his time, they just didn’t have the resources, so they just designed most cards to be bad, so it wouldn’t matter if they barely tested them.
The team grew and they improved in 2017 (peak Hearthstone), but in 2018 Brode left and he backstabbed Blizzard by opening his own studio and recruiting from the Hearthstone team to work for him on a competing IP.
So we hit Hearthstone peak low in Rastakhan, where they admitted they didn’t play test enough.
Based on the BS that was going on at Blizzard with Mike Morhaime an argument can be made they didn’t deserve anyone’s loyalty.
He is first and foremost a money guy. They immediately improved the Hearthstone economy when he left. It was horrible. And it’s my understanding that Marvel Snap is pretty bad too.
Blood boil to 6 or some other nerf is also necessary here to give wide boards a xhance against bdk.
Show your citations. You make a LOT of dubious claims in your post, so support your stance with references.
Cheers.
To counter point this arguement, I feel like many decks right now don’t have enough ways to deal with wide boards. Aggro decks right now are able to card draw, mana cheat, AND produce bodies capable of surviving damage based board clears.
As an aggro player myself, I have to admit that seeing blood boil nerfed would make me happy, but it is selfish. Blood boil needs to exist in its current form. It keeps wide boards in check, and is truly the only card that answers aggro board flooders on turn 5.
If you nerf it to 6 mana, yes, blood DK win rate will drop off the face of the earth. I’m already pressuring blood dks so hard that if they didn’t draw blood boil in time for turn 5, they automatically lose. Making it turn 6 would make the match up too easy.
It shouldn’t have lifesteal after the first turn, imo, but otherwise it’s a good spell for wide boards.
If Blizzard applies nerfs/buffs every week, this method would work well for balancing. But I’m afraid that’s not their intent (a perfectly balanced game is not the optimal state for sales).
Not everyone is playing pure pally dude. Have you seen board based decks win rates against bdk? It’s around 34% how is tgar fair? Bdk definitely needs berfs It’s ludicrous good now. Fastest aggro deck in the game pure pally should of course be nwrfed too togheter with frost dk.
Blood’s playrate is so high because if you don’t want to play aggro, you need to play Blood because Blood is the only slow strategy with access to cards like Blood Boil and Soulstealer and Vampiric Blood.
If Blizzard nerfs the tier 1 aggro decks (and buffs Warrior and Shaman) we will see a more diverse meta.
I’m not playing pure pally and I probably have about a 50% win rate against blood dk. It’s a draw dependant match up as a totem shaman. They are favored quite highly if they get blood boil, but it doesn’t always stop me.
But if they don’t draw blood boil, I win, no questions asked. Turn 5 no blood boil is a concede for the DK. Turn 5 he does have it, I continue if I can still push for lethal even after he heals for 10-14.
See blood boil is just 2 damage to your minions at the end of the day. 3+ hp minions survive it, and things like eyezor and achored totem make that possible.
Yes totem shaman is a deck tgat has better against bdk but most board based decks suck big time against it
