They can keep using the same pirate deck, rack up a lot of wins and save money/gold.
and you could never really truly pick that this would be the one deck to dodge nerfs and that is the only problem I see. There have been a ton of decks on this power level that have been nerfed, some stronger and some weaker. You cannot say the deck wasn’t complained about or that power level or popularity weren’t reason to justify doing so, so it’s still a mystery to me what their actual criteria is.
Pirate warrior is a deck, there aren’t people labled “Pirate warriors” that just play one deck till it get nerfed and don’t buy expansions if their deck doesn’t need cards

The dredge cards are what is making it strong again.
This deck was nerfed more than once.
The reason it wasn’t nerfed harder is that it only really farms noobs.
The power of the deck drops off a cliff as your rank improves.
The new cards gave it enough value to become relevant again, but it is unlikely to be a popular deck at good ranks.

You don’t need to run ONE Sunken City card to have a competitive and top tier deck. (you don’t need the collossal either)

The dredge package is why pirate warrior is relevant at competitive levels again.
Maybe you can farm noobs in silver and bronze with the old one, but you need to get the draw engines working in Diamond and beyond or the deck doesn’t compete.
There are no new legendary cards that are “must have” for the deck, but you still need 2x epic cards to play the deck.
I don’t think it’s bad to have f2p friendly decks.
I got what OP said, but even if you are playing pirate warrior you still need new cards to play the game with other decks, so everyone who could, bought packs anyways
I don’t really play it. Doesn’t initially seem that much different but I will take your word for it.
What did it lose?
It lost nothing, but gained tutored draw (dredge) and amalgam to discover, making it super easy to always be on curve and never float mana. It also gained the colossal that makes 1 cost pirates to combo bigger damage from hand with smite.
It can last longer and play into the mid game if needed to finish where as before it it ran out of pirates and started to top deck by turn 8.
Guess I’m happy I don’t play so much. Hopefully them pirate warriors just level past me.
Nobody needs to buy the expansion at all, tbh. Quests give plenty of xp/gold.
