Uh, why never take Al’ar? If you summon 0/3 Ashes, then you can also drop Al’ar alongside them, and that might be a difficult board for your opponent. This is a situational highroll, not a never take.
Because that means you’re on turn 6 or later and the opponent will easily kill your 0/3 on their turn and probably the alar and ashes too. There’s a reason the tiny amount of play this card has seen was only in a deck that can cheat it out with a bunch of other threats at once. It’s a really bad card.
Seems like that’s what they are saying. And I guess, no bonus if you DO actually play it.
It has to be worded correctly or it would, like other cards, say “if you play it this turn”
Every elemental or spirit being has to look like a Tornado OR a Genie coming out of a bottle.
These are the art department rules.
In a vacuum, without considering individual deathrattle effects, you’re basically getting a minion that says “battlecry and deathrattle: do this thing”, for 1 more mana than the original DR minion. (edit: assuming you pick a minion that triggers the effect, of course)
As long as the DR effect isn’t crap, you should get more than 1 mana’s worth in tempo.
The thing is the DR pool is very diverse. This is both good and bad. A diverse pool means you just might highroll and get that niche DR minion for that particular situation you’re in. But other times you get mediocre to crap choices
Oh, there ARE others designs (in WoW), esp. earth elementals:

(Actually has a titan watcher model, not an elemental one)
and Theradras

and her mother - and actual Earthmother - Therazane.

Be happy with what we got so far…
P.S. Therazane/Theradras have the vibe of a real world 25k old carving, the “Venus of Willendorf”:
