New CORE announced and rotating cards

lol I honestly think that this was the reason if I had to guess. We went so many years with complaints about Big Priest that they just abandoned all hope of releasing new rez mechanics for fear of feeding that hate even more.

I’m cool with it. I just did what any good rez/reborn loving Priest player would/should do. Make DK your new main. It’s clear they love supporting that class. I have barely played any Priest this last year.

Shadowstep dodged a rotation yet again, this is so funny at this point.

Did someone just try to make an argument for Steamcleaner to be actually played in a deck? Even if it was in the meta now, there is no rational reason to play it in your deck unless you want to make your deck worse.

Like what? Please for the love of all don’t say a bad deck like Asteroid Shaman.

I’ll help you out.

I think the idea is that they are a year late. It would have been nice last year on rotation when Plague DK spiked because they knew no one had a way to remove the cards. And now with asteroid shaman in the last few months, people have been wishing they had something.

And now they put it in rotation knowing it’s useless now to sort of troll the community. I think that’s the argument. Like, thanks…but you’re a year late.

I’m unconvinced it existing in the meta would have really changed anything. The decks it would effect were tier 2-3 decks at best.

Even if we want to say that it would help against the Incindius setups it would need to be in your deck as ETC is rotating. How often would it be a factor in winning the match versus just beating them straight up. More importantly. How much would it hinder your deck?

Oh, you’re right. But the point isn’t to make the meta better. It was about giving the players what they want.

Like someone just having the option in their ETC, or whatever. I don’t think it changes the meta at all. It was more about just having the option. That’s the trolling part.

Sort of like “hey guys, I wish I had carrot on a stick for my horse”
Blizzard release car. Horses are now obsolete
Blizzard release carrot on a stick

That sort of thing

Imma try and say something about every class

DK: new legendary in theory is interesting, depending on what new corpse spenders we get. It also makes double unholy something to look out for. Poison breath will likely be useful since a few DK single target removals are rotating. Or they save it for pew pew quilboar. Losing soulstealer is probably their biggest loss.

DH: kinda sad that both priest of fury and felrattler had their time when they first came out, but nowadays I can’t see them compete with what’s in the field. Though I suppose that means priestess is in the pool from Kil’jaeden. I do like Zal as a legendary though.

Druid: all the returning core cards look good. There will likely be new Choose cards… or it’d be interesting if somehow cards like Uluu and number cruncher get used

Hunter: like with druid I can’t complain per say.

Mage: Antonadas and Colossus be like “strongest mage OTK in history vs strongest mage OTK today” :joy:

Paladin: pally gets a murloc! pally gets a murloc! :joy: ok fine it’s not really there for murloc synergies but to draw a dragon, but I just want to bring up the old meme back

Priest: recently I played around with archorite, so priest getting heals might be interesting. Both deathrattle taunts had their moments in their day, but right now there’s actually a priest deck that just abuses the taunt/armor starship… and I don’t see them added armor breaker back in core

Rogue: huckster had its time back in the day and now it’s a 2/3. 2 combo related cards is nice in the sense that they remember combo was a thing. Losing filk and spectral cutlass does mean they probably do want combo or something faster.

Shaman: in a vacuum I actually think shaman cards are kinda mid, but right now shaman seems to have it good so maybe that doesn’t matter

Warlock: soularium gives draw. We know what happens when lock can draw. Not much discardlock atm but the moment it returns soularium will be there. Despicable dreadlord gets added to Kil’jaeden pool. Oh and twisting nether is leaving so locations are safe from removals again

Warrior: losing bladestorm and whirlwind but getting ravaging ghoul is probably a loss. Losing deathwing but getting bulwark is probably a gain.

Neutral: well leeroy AND southsea deckhand rotating probably means handbuff pally might finally die (not that it isn’t already waning but still)! :joy:

Bigger jorg is rotating anyways, but even warsgon grunt is leaving.

Steamcleaner probably means asteroid decks is basically a one expansion deck (or even half an expansion, seeing as they took a backseat to starcraft decks)

No more MCT? Methinks terran stocks will continue to rise. Black Knight? He can only deal with one starship.

Octosari, runaway blackwing, mo’arg forgefield… these will probably make or break some games if they are randomly summoned (read: from cheese). Well forgefield is demon so can also come from kil’jaeden

Can’t wait to see my enemies face as I play a turn-7 Natalie Seline

haha the fact they think it’s even playable for 7 mana is so crazy.

If anything, it should go back to 8 mana and then the health it gains also increases your hero’s max health by that much. THEN it MIGHT be playable. 7 mana destroy 1 minion is so ridiculously unplayable that’s it laughable they thought that was a buff.

I would also like to say that I think the sleeper card of the new core set is:

Common · Minion · Madness at the Darkmoon Faire · Battlecry: Each player draws a card.

This is now battlecry AND deathrattle.
So everyone now has a Chillfallen Baron for 2 mana and can be played to also burn your opponent.

This is the sleeper change imo. I think this sees lots of play.

Just like, genuinely, what the [REDACTED]

DK: We’re losing very good cards here for not much payback. The Scourge, while dropping off recently, was an amazing finisher in general. Soulstealer kills control decks. Might of Menithil was an amazing card in aggro decks. Corpse Bride was one of the better spenders. The replacements aren’t much better. Falric is fine but they remove one of the best corpse spenders (as well as one of the two premier “tokens on two” cards rotating out) means its not really worth being double unholy for?

Same deal with Deathchiller, cool card but Frost DK hasn’t played like that since DK launch. And don’t even get me started on how useless the rest of the new cards are.

DH: I guess Zai is cool??? But like, these cards don’t make sense. Big DH has zero support and Deathrattle DH is so completely not a thing.

Druid: At least the rotating cards are worthless ones. Squirrel probably sees play in zoo but the rest of these are garbage in standard.

Hunter: Terrorscale Stalker slightly makes up for Yodeller rotation but like, 6 mana equality is a lmao.

Mage: Antonidas should be 6 mana, and the “new” card is complete garbage. At least elemental mage gets a bone thrown at it (not that its losing half of its deck or anything)

Paladin: I can’t even begin to imagine what their thoughts are here. We finally got to a meta where Librams can shine and we’re rotating the synergistic legendary for… a bad slow board clear. Then we’re replacing even more silver hand stuff with bad Murloc support and one of the worst spells ever made? what

Priest: And like that, priest mains sobbed across the globe. All 8 of them. Seriously, killing the overheal package and replacing it with a 5 mana draw card and, ahem, Power Word Shield is just not it. This class is somehow even more dead than it was.

Rogue: Shadowstep lives another day Cutlass will be a big hit, but Foxy Fraud and Defias Ringleader are alright in that weird aggro combo deck beginning in starship meta. Everything else is just more overpriced thief stuff. (Also still no good one drops)

Shaman: No thoughts, other than why do they keep shoving the stupid toad down our throats, this card has always been unplayable please stop

Warlock: Probably the only class that actually benefits at all from Core set changes, at least there’s the beginnings of a playable aggro deck here.

Warrior: Bladestorm is a big hit. Bulwark of Azzinoth is a card of all time, and we’re getting enrage stuff back??? why??? Hookfist is good but there’s 0 support for that kind of deck in Warrior right now.

Neutral: Oh god it hurts to look at–

  • Octosari is unplayable garbage (not only that, but kills random 8 drops for good)
  • Chillmaw is unplayable garbage (7 mana for a 6/6 taunt that might do an AOE clear maybe)
  • Sneed’s Old Shredder is unplayable garbage (also very similar to the next card)
  • Cairne Bloodhoof is unplayable garbage (serious a 6 mana 5/5 summon a 5/5 is not playable in a meta where decks are getting away with 20/20 in stats by turn 5)
  • Cornelius Roame is unplayable garbage (didn’t it use to be start and end? Am I crazy? so also nerfed for no good reason)
  • Curator might be playable in a deck like Swarm Shaman but a lot of support cards are rotating out, so probably unplayable garbage.
  • Finja is unplayable garbage. (Seriously, why are all the murlocs so high cost these days? Not like they are good stat cheat wise even with this)
  • The Black Knight… Might honestly see play as a tech card, but it’ll be the first thing to get dropped in favor of actually strong cards.
  • King Mukla is unplayable garbage.
  • Lorewalker is (believe it or not) unplayable garbage.

There are only three neutrals that might see play, those being

  • Steamcleaner if asteroids pick up steam again,
  • Mo’arg Forgefiend in Druid probably during the lower power level of 4 expansions.
  • Prize Vendor since its now weirdly a better neutral Chillfallen Baron?

We even lose our cute penguin in exchange for ugly wisp, just why?!?

Genuinely I could have handed a wild collection to an illiterate colorblind 3 year old and the choices they made for a new core set would have been far better than these. It like the developers intentionally picked the worst possible options they could, (including taunting us with Steamcleaner after rotating stupid plagues)

I still do think the game will be overall healthier without TITANS and the stupid Reno set in standard, but jeez.

Also yea, ETC rotating with 0 replacement sucks. At least we keep um, Death Metal Knight (???) from Festival :upside_down_face:

The ONLY saving grace here is this now has taunt…and is only playable if the summoned minion ALSO has taunt.

That might not be too bad, but it’s definitely getting cut for better cards. For 6 mana, DK can summon 2 5/5 taunts AND gain 10 max health…and that card rarely sees play now. So that puts in perspective how bad this neutral, LEGENDARY is.

oh and also deathbringer saurfang got buffed to a 4/6. Genuinely unsure why they keep pushing this bad card so hard

It’s just so weird how they buff the core cards coming in to a new core where cards are super power creeped.

It would be like taking a man from 1960 who makes $4 an hour, bringing him to today’s world and saying “We’re giving you a raise so you can compete with 2024 wages. Here’s $6 an hour.”

I wonder if some selections are hinting at some direction they are going.

Dragons for one. The emerald dream will probably have dragon synergy. Many classes got dragon stuff. I’m looking forward to finding new and exciting ways to make zarimi priest a thing :3. Spriti guide is also a relevant priest core card. Power word shield and orbital halo are both relevant holy cards, and nightshade tea and acupuncture are relevant shadow spells. Priest is hurting for card draw. It sees play. Guaranteed.

Because it was insufferable in control decks. They have made control priest not a thing, and I feel like the game is better for it.

I agree it’s very good.

Underlight angling rod to core suggests we may get back to murloc paladin and It appears the core murlocs are staying.

It didn’t go away in the game. It just went to DK. DK has been 10x the Control deck Priest could have ever hoped to have been. Blood DK of the past was infinitely better than anything Priest ever had. Control DK is like all the aspects of what Control Warrior is combined with what Control Priest was.

I know I’m the only one playing it but deathrattle mech warrior is losing containment unit and this is a partial replacement… the only other things deathrattle mech warrior is losing is instrument tech and (pretty big) crimson expanse.

I think people are really unaware of the chicanery that can be pulled with safety googles / part scrapper / boom wrench. If the power level goes down any and they add either a decent part scraper tutor or another decent deathrattle mech… watch out.

Aggro decks sort of follow the same gameplan these days… snow ball 1 drop… some decent attack power 2/3 drops then about 20 damage from hand.

wailing vapor fills the snowball one drop… theres still a bunch of decent 2/3 drops and the main thing is sand art elemental is sticking around alongside skirting death which is 14-18 damage from hand at the very least… Shaman should have a decent aggro deck going forward (not that they dont already)
