The problem is, because F2P players get wrecked in PvP, those players skip PvP, which means only the paying players are there and the occasional F2P will get even more scared out of it. It’s a vicious circle.
Okay sorry i meant buying them in mass. Sure the free ones they are going to make sure you get something good to get you buying them. After that though there’s no guarantees.
This is not true at all. You dont get to level 30 by buying packs. you get to level 30 by playing the game. I got level 30 with Xyrella, Cariel, and Samuro the day the game came out just completing Barrens and Felwood and farming low MMR bots on PVP.
The packs simply give you more coins to make upgrading abilities bit easier. but you can earn merc specific coins to level up by farming Tasks vs in Level 2 of Heroic Barrens.
The fun of this game is in the pve part. The grind for “achievements” and the gathering of coins gives some sense of satisfaction. Its mostly a single player mode with maybe 10% of the players making it to pvp.
Naturally, the ,matchmaking algorithm will have to take ability levels into consideration.
Most people can reach 30 no problem. I have a dozen mercs at 30 form just doing ~10 daily PvP vs bots.
But after getting your 3 abilities to level 3, the grind really kicks in. This is where a pay-to-play player can really squeeze out an advantage, IF the matchmaker is ONLY considering Merc levels.
It’s gonna take a LOONNNG time I can see, to even max out 1 equipment each for a main team of 6, let alone a collections worth. Even a single Merc takes a thousand coins approximately, which comes slowly unless you repeat a bounty ad nauseum, gambling with a 3-4 man team or less even.
I can definitely feel the sentiment that if Merc level 30 = Merc level 30, regardless of equipment and ability ranks, it’s totally P2W, not even funny.
Although most skills stop scaling well after level 3, there are some that continue to gain speed advantage, that decide games.
They came with a new scam, even the free to play is rigged to give you nothing at all. They stopped giving either cards or even portrait. Only had coins in my last 10 packs. (bunches of 15 coins on 5 different cards when you need 150 to do 1 more point of damage) I thought I could make it a f2p game, but they don’t want that. They really WANT YOU TO PUT SOME CASH IN, and they are getting cheaper and cheaper as they don’t consider they’re making enouhg money out of their expected budget with the game. It didn’t make a hit, you wait around 5 minutes to be matched with someone in PvP, compared with HS where it’s 30 seconds, it means not so many people are satisfied with their product. And yet they’ll try to milk the max out of the few who are curious. Beware of Blizzard guys. Oh, and it’s a given that blizzard employees blend within the chat to try to make it look all fun and friendly and not the way actual players are experiencing their scam. Gatchas are illegal in many countries, so if you can prove it is a gatcha, you’ll see them changing their politic fast enough and you’ll be able to enjoy a f2p game. So look for opprtunities to call them off ;).
