Ice Trap dont trigger

I try make a counter deck to surfalopod and the trigger when draw tsunami spell, and i dont know why when i cast first the ice trap in theory the secret must counter the spell.

Any idea?

Cuz of the nature of how it’s cast.

“Your opponent casts” of Ice Trap means “from its hand”. It’s similar to Battlecry which means “when played from hand”. It’s why Battlecries never trigger when “play a card from your deck” and similar effects trigger.

The one casting the spell isnt the one that secret is concerned about. The Surfalopod is casting it, not your opponent. You want the Secret called Objection! from Mage to be able to counter Surfalopod and its battlecry. Or some other secret I dont know of that does the same thing.

Yeah, you can’t counter a cast when drawn effect because it doesn’t count as being cast.

If it did, it would cause weird effects with say, DK generating it then countering their own plagues.

However, since it wasn’t actually cast, it also isn’t in the pool for Conman to repeat, so there are some pros and cons.

It does count as being cast, but not by your own hand. Probably they should add a better description or at least a popup; Battlecry has a clear pop up that reads “when you play it from your hand”; they should just add a similar phrase to spells of that sort but maybe it’s technically hard without inventing a new keyword (e.g. “Objection: it does something against your opponent when they play a card from their hand”:).
