I Got Into Playing Again (Huge Mistake)

The game was put on maintenance mode years ago back in 2019 where they cranked up power creep to 1000000 out of 10.

I also came back months ago after a 6 year break and now im in top 1500

What you need is simply to play until you learn all the opponent decks to play around their stuff, it takes time and losing.

You can’t expect to just jump in not knowing what you’re playing against and win. What kind of a game would that be?

And unfortunately, I agree for the arena. That game mode has been ruined. It used to be it was a cheaper way to get cards, but now I’m thinking I’ll just spend my gold on card packs directly.

True enough. Can’t wait until the 11th.
Card back and I’m done for awhile.

Because modern Blizzard only cares about money. This game is headed towards “maintenance mode,” replaced by the next slop this pathetic company can vomit out for the dwindling fanboys and fangirls holding hope for some return to the past glory days.

I played the decks they played. I played the decks the way they say the decks are to be played. I can’t do any better than that.

Outside of a handful of situations, there’s no reason to keep high cost cards. If I get three 7’s in my starting hand? And I don’t mulligan them? I’m definitely losing that match. No matter what they play, or what I draw.

I cannot possibly know what they are playing before they’ve laid down a card. I don’t know what I’ll need.

Not anymore. It drove me into a deep depression.

It’s definitely not my imagination or perception. All month I’ve gotten to silver8. Then lose a bunch, and it’s back to silver9/10. I’m not even hitting 50%. The only reason I even make it to 8 is because I occasionally win two in a row.

I face people with golden heroes and legendary cardbacks. They are using the best netdecks. I am 100% certain they aren’t making mistakes.

Do you honestly believe that my problem is that I’m not thinking? Of course I’m thinking! It just doesn’t matter.

Most of the time there’s no solution. My deck has no answer.

Such as when I play a charge/face deck, and I run into a warrior. That exclusively uses taunt minions. There’s no winning. I would need a completely different deck based on removal/control.

  • Obvious. Because I’m looking directly at it.
  • I don’t know what my opponent will do. I can’t force them to do anything. They can (and will) play whatever they want.
  • No way of knowing. I don’t know what’s in their deck. I can only look at the number of cards in their hand, the plays they’ve made, and then guess. (And my guess will probably be wrong.)
  • No way of knowing. I used to run as many silence/removal as I could. To counter buff decks. So, I’d often have them sit in my hand all game. Never used. Because I was waiting for the one big buff that would kill me. Instead, I lose because I was holding cards that could have helped all game. (Or I blow the cards early, and then don’t have them when I need them.)
  • No way of knowing. There are times that it’s obvious. But it’s mostly just whatever I have in my hand vs whatever in on the board. Which doesn’t require much thought.

People always tell me “just think about the game”. If it were really that simple? I wouldn’t be here right now.

Holy giga reply. By the way what gave you 150 packs? Do they just send them if you were an old customer to lure you back in?

You’d think so. That’s not happening. I just yo-yo between people that disconnect/ragequit and experts that cannot be defeated.

Yeah, but you were (probably) also good years ago. I’ve never been. (Not since the early days of the first release.)

Matchmaking should be giving me opponents at my skill level. Not people that stomp me no matter what action I take, or deck I pick.

I’ll never understand why everyone (in arena) has a better deck than me. Last arena: 0 wins. Tried to get concoction cards. Ended up with a bunch pirates. That had no synergy. I have no luck with these drafts. None at all.

They usually do. You need to suffer through the losses while you’re learning opponent decks to play around them.

Yeah I was good before, but it still took me couple of weeks of losing. And my progress has been from Legend 12k through Legend 6k and now Legend 500.

It doesn’t come over night. I spam thousands of games every month. That’s right.

Thousands.

Casual is standard too…

Makes me wonder how much you play it.

I started playing again around November or October, I think. I haven’t gotten any better. I haven’t gained a greater understanding of the game.

Yeaaaaahhh… I don’t think so. That is a ton of time.

I regularly run into stall decks. Which easily turn into 15-20 minute matches. As nearly all such players also slow-play. 2-3 of those in a row, and that’s at least 1 hour of my time.

Even if my matches were 5 minutes each? (Like, super consistently.) I’d still need more than 50 matches per day to reach “thousands” in a month.

50 matches X 5 minutes = 250 minutes (or over 4 hours) per day

Which further works out to more than 28 hours a week. That’s like having a part time job. Except you aren’t paid. And you don’t get any days off.

Maybe you have a lot of time? I don’t. I could put in 3-4 hours, but it would only be 3-4 days per week.

Plus, the stress. It’s too much pressure. There’s no fun. Because everyone (besides bots) plays this game better than me. And I just can’t improve my skill. It’s just like a nightmare. You run, and run, but you can never get away.

I hate the fact that every mode punishes me for trying something different. I’m forced to play meta, but I can’t. Because I don’t have the money/dust/gold for it. Therefore, all I can play are decks that are unlikely to win.

No, it isn’t. Perhaps it is you that doesn’t play it?

Basically, yeah. I’m not sure what the criteria for getting it was. I came back for WoW Hardcore, but SoD pretty much killed it off.

I haven’t found that to be the case. At least, I didn’t when you made this post.

Strangely enough, I caught a long series of bots in silver. (Over a couple days.) Rapidly boosted me to gold 10. And now I’m getting nothing but beatdowns, again.

This is a common mistake that people make because it is not explained properly, but you will be matched in Casual based on the type of deck you have. If you queue with a Standard deck, your opponent will have a Standard deck also, same for Wild and Twist decks

The fun is in setting goals for yourself and accomplishing them.
If you really want to learn and progress, set that as a goal and work towards it to feel a sense of accomplishment.

Yes, that’s a lot of time, and that’s how much time it takes to get where I am. Sure, if your goal is, for example, to just hit gold or platinum, with some help from an expert you could achieve that in a matter of days.

If you want, I’ll coach you a bit, for free, just to show you progress is possible with right tools and mindset. That should give you hope/sense of accomplishment or whatever back.
