No, you cant. Thats not how chat works. If I unfriend you the connection between your client and mine is severed. It doesnt matter if you use an old discussion, it wont come through.
Actually this is incorrect. I have unfriended people use the old convo to hit me up a few times in the past. There is a page that shows previous conversations and you can use that to send a chat message to someone no longer on your friends list.
Cramer messaged me a couple times that way after I unfriended him.
