This is so true. It’s a problem globally.
There’s a video of Kibler trying the new patch as a control priest, shortly after he made the video discussing the changes.
Sure enough, he runs into Paladins still otk post patch, and other decks “exploding you from hand” as he puts it. Guys not wrong. One of the games his opponent deals 29 damage from hand turn 8 with minimal set up (this is post patch.)
He’s absolutely right, if they don’t reign this in, the whole point of the next expansion of building a spaceship is going to fall flat on it’s face, as otk and swing turns run away with the meta yet again.
Handbuf is one of the most controllable decks in the game. It’s extremely weak to silences or evolutions or sometimes even taunting.
They’re also very slow considering what they are up against in the meta.
I just checked his wikipedia page. Prime example of writing your own page, or a stan doing it (“one of the best players!”).
I just had an odyn warrior deal 49 damage completely from hand with no weapon at all
I was at 42 health and thought it was okay to not play a taunt xD… especially considering it was a renethal warrior playing a taunt package
Its not fun to lose a game like that.
I used to enjoy otk decks, but now i feel like any deck that can deal more than 20 damage from hand is just too much. I hate losing a game where I ask myself afterward “how could I have played around that” and there is no answer other than play something equally degenerate
It’s not degenerate if it works.
You arent making any sense
Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
You can stab your enemy in the back.
Does it work? Yes.
Is it degenerate? Yes.
It’s a video game. If it works it works. The only “degeneracy” would be if it was statistically dumb; e.g. a high roll that only happens 1% of the time; if it’s reliable it’s not degenerate: it just works (unless you care about the aesthetics of it which is not gameplay related at all).
if is what im thinking about setting it up isnt easy because you need an empty board
or a board without low hp minions
this otk is fine because it isnt something you set up just by drawing all the cards you have to make several plays across different turns to do it
Even if it was easy, it’s not the responsibility of the player to not play it. If it’s OP the Devs should balance their game.
nothing wrong or "unbalanced " with a finisher like that being ingame
and im sure everyone sees it comming because you have to play juggernaut to set it up
play odyn and then all depends on the board
Referring to the above poster implying it’s somehow bad manners to play combos like that.
oh the notification said it was an answer to my post
He is kinda of real problem in the sense that while all of that is true. He has a name and people respect him.
So while i admit that he is Very past his prime days as a player. He should have a say on discussing How to take the design foward.
Both because he is in fact more involved with it than most of the playerbase including competitive players and because have the approval of someone who many respect would make things far easier to blizzard with the masses.
In other words. That guy transcended the barrier of time by doing a good transition from competitive player to entertainer.
I’d argue that it requires too many pieces. What makes a good combo is the ability to stall until you can get it off, and Owl Druid requires more stalling than most combos. And while Druid is great at ramp, it’s only average at card draw.
Dude’s in the top 20 ALL TIME winningest players in MTG Tourney winnings and probably would be in Hearthstone if he hadn’t started working for Blizz as a commentator.
If he’s “a washed dumpster level player,” you should really think about what that makes you, because you certainly aren’t ahead of him on either of those lists.
Brian Kibler is probably the best player on a given day that I have ever seen.
As others have said: Many of the original cards in HS came from the Wow TCG, which he designed, then they slapped him in the face by not making him designer when they made HS.
He should not be insulted here.
And he is right. This game has turned into a big waffle of busted cards.
I met Brian several times during my days of playing MtG.
Brian and I have often been on the same page as to what we think is good or bad for HS. We both understand that rate of powercreep, which was embedded in Hearthstone’s design philosophy was going to lead to the inevitable formation of Wild and Standard. We both understand the negative impact of trying to maintain Classic as an “evergreen set,” while we advocated for a fluctuating core set.
And now we are both pointing out what we perceive as design problems and bad play patterns, which include issues like:
1). Mana cheat or scam decks. With Druid being one of the worse offenders.
2). Less counter-play. Low player agency.
3). The abundance and brokenness or toxicity of OTK decks—and some combo decks.
4). The occasional occurrences of when hyper-aggro becomes too fast, powerful, or efficient.
5). Too many powerful neutral cards.
6). Cards that vomit out wide boards. A problem that is compounded if such cards are cheated out.
One thing Kibler left out from the above video were topics like Reno or cards that create permanent effects for the rest of the game.
I have not yet read the new cards from the next expansion, but given some of the above problems for HS, I am not sure how building and playing space ships will become a relevant play strategy. Scenarios where a spaceship is stolen or copied or easily removed may be big obstacles for such a play strategy to succeed.
this will be a fun expansion to leave the game on
im gonna have to make the most of it, good way to end things
Guy wants to reply so bad but has to start over every 10 seconds because the blinding light of truth is making it hard to see.
MB.
Not.
