Firebat retired, is this the end of Hearthstone?

He’s been playing the game intensely for like SEVEN YEARS or something. No, def not the “end” of the game. The game has been in decline for a while, which isn’t that surprising. Hard to know exactly what they’ll do about it tbh. It’s still a massive cash cow, but I hope the new game mode, upcoming battle pass system and other stuff inject some excitement into the game

He didn’t quit the game in fact he is going to direct himself at bgs as its the most viable part of the game atm. See: he wants to make money and in hs that isn’t in tournaments(he quit) but is in steaming and youtube(he didn’t quit).

It is not the end of HS because a single streamer resings from GM but it is obvious that Blizzard is declining. from the once top games in e sports (SC, WC) and non esports, eg Diablo and the only real MMORPG for many years (WOW), they ended up with mostly old people playing their old games while failing to create new innovative games (dota was a wc3 fun map… how bad is this, srsly?). and even the old guys dont want to play the old games anymore because they get ever worse (WCR haha). nowadays they only have niche games, the only exception was/is HS, i dont know the current dominance of HS in the genre.

We’ve already seen this, right. Many streamers went to play Battlegrounds, and that takes up a majority of the Twitch category now.

Disclaimer: extremely opinionated post incoming

Hearthstone tournaments turned to crap when they went to the masters/grandmasters system. They turned into raw sewerage when streaming went to youtube.

I remember back in my tryhard days (2015/16), you could watch your fave players do their ladder thing to earn their spot 3 out of 4 weeks, and on the 4th week they would participate in a (usually privately run Dreamhack etc.) tournament for a few days. Now? They are pretty much just Blizzard employees working on commission.

I get what they are trying to achieve, but the old system was far superior. I’d take a 3 month Archon Team League every year, over the current one - seriously the best tournament I have ever seen, by FAR. But admittedly I havent followed the tourney scene since the switch to grandmasters.

Its the “old” adage; Only blizzard can kill HS. They are definitely (imo) doing it to the tournament scene.

I always see ‘Krip’ making videos about battlegrounds.

two simple reasons:

  • battlegrounds is both an enjoyable and skill intensive gamemode despite what forum posters claim in these forums.
  • a lot of casuals prefer watching battlegrounds over tryhard high legend ladder climbing

Here they make that claim:
https://www.pcgamer.com/blizzard-celebrates-100-million-hearthstone-players-with-free-card-packs-for-everyone/
And that proclamation is only about 2 years old. We can only imagine more Hearthstone accounts would’ve been created. At a decrease in frequency? Probably.

People leave different E-sport games all the time. Hell, SCII is still going after what, 10 years?!

lol what. in what world was hearthstonr ever even top tier esport. much less the " most dominant"

HS used to be bigger than LoL (before Tencent acquired the game and blew it out of proportion), FIFA and Crossfire.

The competitive side is really suffering because of selling out to Youtube. But really the game is just old and boring. Oh hey another game with Malygos or Alex or a face hunter or bomb warrior or insert whatever new power play there is or removal.

Oh hey I just won by playing a couple strong cards and my opponent couldn’t answer them so they just quit. So much fun.

It’s nothing new even if the cards are new or there’s a new mechanic. It’s just boring. So of course people are going to leave or go to something else that makes money in the case of streamers.

LoL will die too. It just might take longer than HS. It just depends on how long it takes to get bored.

It’s like I hate to admit it, but this is all so very true. :sleepy: Everything dies.

how much money do people make playing lol and how much do people make playing hearthstone.

Wow, you sound like fun. Why are you here if you’re just going to cry and moan? Maybe go find a game you enjoy?

I’m enjoying battlegrounds actually. Not the same as ladder. Or HS tournaments.

Also had a ton of fun playing Hades.

guess what? you are under no obligation to only play 1 game when you are a big streamer, you are free to try out whatever game/irl/chatting you want because the watchers are there to watch you, not a specific game.

he is also competing at highest level

you are trying to compare a variety/irl streamer with a competing grandmaster. are you going to compare a speedrunner and ninja next?

you are comparing a variety/irl streamer and a grandmaster streamer in a thread that claims hearthstone is dying, and somehow a variety streamer not only playing hearthstone is proof of that according to what you have stated so far. sorry but you are way out of your depth
