Can anyone confirm
Can the āPurified Dragon Nestā Discover Rheastrasza
not sure ā¦but is good idea lose more board space?
Honestly, tough card to evaluate until we see how the meta shakes out.
Itās a dragon archetype, the ramp is good but im not sure if thereās enough support for it yet. We have decent dragons but none of them really do anything druid wants to do currently.
While this card can provide āinfinite valueā, it does so at turn 8. In a rampable class yes, but im not sure if both the dragon and highlander packages will (currently) fit together.
It worked for reno priest in the past since 4 mana 3/3: 3 dmg aoe and board clear and discover from your enemy hand and the 2 mana 2/4 lifesteals/taunt were just decent statlines in a more vanilla era. But even that fell out.
It should ramp well, but im not sure if thereās enough GOOD dragon cards to build a dragon highlander, in addition, standard doesnāt seem to have reno(?) or zephyries in rotation right now. So this might be the only(?) current highlander payoff?
I admit iāve seen a few, very isolated highlander druids around.
But this card already has a VERY similar contender. Dragonqueen Alexstraza (9 mana 8/8Battlecry: If no duplicates, add 2 random dragons at cost 0 to your hand
)
In wild, thereās another 2 mana ramp and draw a card (Breath of Dreams, Descent of dragons).
But i donāt think itās enough to push wild highlander dragon druid to be a thing.
I donāt think it has enough support for standard and wildās old equivilent offers 2 instant value cards in Dragonqueen alexstraza. And she has been cut from nearly every highlander list, despite being a neutral.
Standard Dragon druid however (pass the highlander), might be able to run the ramp dragon. Starlight whelp (3m 4/3) isnāt terrible, and Time lost protodrake [4m 4/5: Taunt, add a dragon to your hand]
and the other support cards arenāt too awful.
But a 8 mana, -4 discount card usually needs board clear or a stabalizer to work.
The highlander dragon arguably weaker than Odyn or Sargeras though rampable quicker, slower in tempo than DQ alexstraza, and it needs a removal shell to grind out enemies in a class without removal.
You could use the dragons to generate very noteworthy threats, like 5 mana 8/8 Deal 8/heal 8 Alexstrazas V2, board flooding 8/8 Onyxia V2, and Ysera v2 and 4/12 taunt Sleepy dragons.
But to be honest, None of those high rolls end the game, and youāre basically giving up T6-9 to be lethaled for 30% chances at playing 5 mana 4/12s on your 9 mana turns in a class yogg no longer exists in.
Wild highlander/greedy druids are just going to brann + astalor combo Ā± astalor.
If they were hoping for this card, theyād already have brann + dq alex. They havenāt.
Meta is hard to predict, but i think the dragon/ramp package might be worth poking for fun. Not sure if itād probably stick, but a day to get data would probably reveal if it was a waste of time or not.
it could get better with more druid /dragon/highlander support with any pushed miniset. Potentially rotation(?).
But in standard, it has less finishing power than Odyn, with less class clear than warrior, while highlander is missing support cards(?) in standard, while not synergizing too well with the dragon package in standard.
And in wild, we already have a card that does a lot of the same (Get 2 dragons DQ alexstraza)
, and that card hasnāt seen play in years.
Itās a interesting card that could come back later, But even with ramp, Iām not sure the highlander dragon is gonna be high tier worth building around(?)
(Not without major druid highlander support or a slower post rotation meta/miniset support, anyways).
The ramp dragon looks tasty if you can get the dragon effect to proc reliably in a good deck though.
