Does anyone actually play "Meme/fun" decks anymore?

So some players are playing for fun, while others (like me) are in search and intend to have fun. Is that accurate?

I’m confused when you say a player can’t play a deck they find unfun in order to climb. It happens all the time.

No.

That’s not at all what I said.

Add me, Killuminati#11956. When I get home we can try and find a good deck for you.

I decided to scroll up and reread the conversation. I understand your point, I think.

To paraphrase as simply as possible…

Opening post: very few players play for fun

Me: lies, even at the highest ranks more than a third of players play for fun, and I can prove it. Your bias clouds your perception.

Thank you. Also, I’m not biased. I’m trying to earnestly learn. I think I’d argue that most players are having fun (temporarily, of course) doing whatever. Whether that be BGs, Mercenaries, Standard, Wild, Duels, or Arena.

In the paraphrase by “you” I meant thread creator.

That’s ok. I didn’t take any offense.

I usually get to D5 then start playing my meme decks in casual, ranked it’s only DH, hunter and warrior and the current top meta decks are all annoying to play against.

Got fed up with both Wild and Standard since the meta is terrible in both formats. Decided to queue some Casual with a random Reno Rogue list. 1st game: Naga DH, I wonder how pathetic you have to be to queue a t1 meta deck in casual.

If one’s motivation for winning is not rank but salt mining, then your opponent’s behavior was rationally self-interested. I personally can’t think of a better way to grief.

True, the dude probably played priest before but decided to try and make people miserable with another class instead. :stuck_out_tongue: I just find it pathetic (I still won cause he was terrible).

i do most of the time. i got my rank grinding done a while ago so i play for funsies these days.

You’re reading a whole lot into that post. When I read it, my takeaway was “why the meta decks in casual?” And honestly that’s why I don’t like casual, it’s pretty much the same decks but people also fold their hands if they don’t get the right start, or if things don’t go their way.

You replied with some interesting but tangential stats on legend, and then, if I may be blunt, some psychobabble about the OP not having empathy and needing to take a long hard look at themselves.

Oh you actually have a point. I didn’t read “I’m a casual player” as playing in Casual mode. :-/

Tbh I usually forget Casual mode exists unless it’s capitalized. Frankly it’s dumb. I don’t think it deserves to exist. I have some sympathy for the salt miner who Smulpaj played. Troll Casual players all day.

But I digress. There’s a lot of people who fit the mold I was arguing against, even if the thread creator might not be one of them.

My point is if your going to play pirate warrior or or quest hunter or any other vomit hand deck why not play ranked ?

I play decks like Lunacy Mage, Thief Priest and Yogg Mage and think it’s stupid most my games are against some aggro decks.

Congrats, you won against Lunacy Mage that didn’t draw Lunacy before turn 5 with your quest hunter while you bm. All for nothing because it’s casual. What a waste of both our time.

This post just made me realize our full ID is exposed here on the forums

I guess, playing devil’s advocate here, my counter would be: why don’t you?

I mean, I do think there’s a certain hypocrisy in saying stuff like

when the opposite side of that story is players with terrible decks hiding from serious opponents. If you can’t understand how the people queuing into Casual don’t see that as pathetic, well, I don’t know what to tell you.

Just to be absolutely clear: I don’t have a dog in this fight. From where I’m sitting, both are pathetic.

Here’s what I think you should do instead: play Ranked, get to Silver 10, and if you win a few in a row, lose on purpose until you go back to Silver 10. (You can’t lose stars in Bronze, so ranking to Silver is inevitable.) This will queue you up against consistently weaker decks than queuing into Casual, and only the most absurdly dedicated of salt miners would lose games on purpose and forsake a decent rank to netdeck Tier 1 decks against Silver 10 scrubs.

If you’re gonna hide from good decks, at least put some effort into it instead of expecting a single click solution to deter trolls and whining when it doesn’t.

I always play meme decks, to some extent. Sometimes entirely off-meta, sometimes a bit of a tweak.

A lot of people just want to get to legend and play the best deck for that. For me getting to legend is meaningless unless I play my own deck. To each his own.

How is the duals meta at the moment ?
