Dirty rat unfun

Redirect your message here:

How does anyone complain about dirty rat? It backfires as much as it wins, but it’s pretty fair as far as disruption because the card still gets to be in the game.

It’s not like other things that poof it out of your hand or summon it for the opponent.

Seriously, if you don’t protect your key pieces, that’s a you thing.

In 2016 that’s true.

If you kept brann in the mulligan that’s a you problem.

I am not a Brann player lol.

Edit: attempted to tag a different post => ā€œHow does anyone complain about dirty rat? It backfires as much as it wins, but it’s pretty fair as far as disruption because the card still gets to be in the game.ā€

Good players don’t play it in match-ups where they don’t need it to grab a win condition(sif/owlonious) on turns they have zero chance of removing it hoping to get it the next turn, they wait till cards like brawl can add it to the ā€œpileā€ for a free pull(two if brann effect is active). As such I’d say it backfires less then 50% of the time
With its return to standard I’ve only played it in three different decks and have only played it a couple dozen times and never had a ā€œbackfireā€ and it has always been beneficial for me when I play it(pulling things like sargaris and sif)

Edit: To clarify I think DR is fine in the game

This goes without saying.

My point is that it whiffs as much as it hits something truly needed.

I have no issues with this card in standard.

Clearly you haven’t dirty ratted a Titan or one of their bigs on turn two. DR is like Russian roulette but it’s one of the only cards that’s keeping this from being an all solitaire meta

Obviously I haven’t done that because I prefer playing my own deck rather than wanting to make my opponent have a hard time.

Hey I just think the value tends to be phenomenal for dirty rat and its not fun to get smacked with the rat. I would just like to see better balance and not so powerful cards where dirty rat is needed. Its okay for people to have other opinions on the rat because everyone has different gaming experiences. I just want to move away from the rat in the next expansion. Thanks for all the inupts, there are some great replies in here.

tf would you play DR on turn two?

You have to have hard removal or a board that can clear basically anything before you play the rat.

The point is to burn a battlecry and then destroy the minion, not lose.

You ever watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia? There’s an episode where Charlie cuts the brakes on his own van with his friends in it and bails on them while yelling WILD CARD, BTCHS!!!

It’s like that for me

No what you want to do is play solitaire and not have anyone interrupt your little combo you’ve got cooking

I’m trying to win the game the old fashioned way, with board control and going face when I have lethal. If your deck wins or loses based on one or two cards, you get what you get

Dirty rat are one of the best designed cards, especially for a tech card. Cheap, well statted, big risk, big reward. Exactly like the person above me said, Russian roulette. Play it as a tempo drop on turn 2 and risk to lose the game on the spot. Get their combo piece and you can still lose if you are too far behind.

Problem is we have too few tech cards. Print more and give more options then dirty rat will be one of many concerns when drafting a greedy deck.

It’s not random in the same way. You’re playing a card for a random outcome. It’s like comparing dice to 21.

Put that goal post back where it was immediately.

I disagree with your description.
DR is not a tech card to me.
A tech card, imo, helps you do something better with your own deck strategy. Preparation, for instance, is a tech card to me.
DR is a disruption card, and serves no other purpose.
It only exists to mess up your opponents’ strategies.
Now that in itself is ok, but the card is too good as is, imho.

The problem with Hearthstone these days is that it isn’t interactive anymore. All of the back and forth has been removed from the… hey, HEY! WHO SAID THAT YOU COULD INTERACT WITH THAT?!? Whatever dev allowed my hand to be interacted with needs fired.

Well, mill still exists. And I have no problem with DR other than it’s health pool tbh.

Absolutely should be set assuming that the opponent has a minion in hand. Yes, a 2/6 against no minion mage for 2 is fine.
