Battlegrounds: Remove Dr. Boombox

Reaper should be at 5 in order to combat specific builds early on so they cannot become unmanageable based on the lobby they are in. I would gladly agree with you in keeping Reaper on 6 if Whitemane was still in the pool so there is a solid way to counter the Baron. As it stands now the only real counters for the Baron is a lucky cleave, a Box with taunt placed correctly and just plain old luck. Unfortunately these days Zapper just isn’t getting it done.

Kalecgos is a well known useless tier 6 minion. You cannot get enough out of the effect once on 6 to make it worth taking. Besides on 6 you are absolutely looking for Nadina anyway. If it was dropped to 5 it would be an okay pick on a tier 4 triple depending on lobby. Clearly the stats would have to be reduced but that’s expected. Just getting to 6 is a massive gamble these days anyway. If you are going to 6 you are looking for something VERY specific more than likely.

Menagerie will always be the best builds but those rankings need to be taken less literally. The lobby present + hero + player skill are the bigger factors.

I just looked through the data on HSreplay for Kalecgos and as expected an early golden version increases placement by 1.5-2 positions. Early being listed as turn 9 or 10. However it drops sharply for each turn after that to the point that by turn 13 it’s not effecting placement at all.

I will concede to Scrotie that when it is played though at golden early on it has the highest impact of any Dragon card even Nadina. Although it’s pick/play rate is lower than any other Dragon, which makes sense. Playing it at any point not golden is has little to no impact on placement.

So by turn 13 it’s perfectly balanced. Before that it’s OP.

as you should.

Okay i am not sure how to take that second comment. It’s only really good and OP when it’s golden and it’s not easy making that minion golden unlike say Hogger who has a massive placement differential when made golden.

If we’re going to venture off topic, how about we remove Magmaloc from rotation? Or just nerf it to “Gain +1/+1 for each two/three minions you’ve played this turn.”

I’m at 7k and I literally cannot count how many times Magmaloc has swept a lobby.

The card that should go is hoggar i think. It has been good for to long and its getting a bit stale.

I can post more stats if anyone has requests for specific stats as well.

Basically, Mechs are slowly catching up to Menagerie, but ultimately nothing beats Menagerie (but Menagerie is something you move into late game, not going to right away generally).

I’m at ~6500 MMR and the great thing about Boombox is he’s like an early Zappy. You can place him on the end and snipe the enemy Baron or other crucial minions that hide behind taunts.

It’s just a stats buffing card. Doesn’t do anything other than just being a self growing stat stick. It’s tier 5, starts at 1/1, only grows by +1/+1 per turn if you aren’t playing chunks of minions into its play style.

It’s just another minion that is garbage if you don’t get it early. By the time most people get access to it, people are already in the 70/70 minion range and it can’t feasibly replace anything on your board.

Once you get it taunted up it really is the superior way to Snipe Baron builds especially once it’s golden. Zapper just comes far too late in the game to stop those builds and is much easier to stop.

Yeah, I even use him with Beast builds and Frogger setups. He’s good no matter what and Tier 4 is a big turnaround tier.

This is the card I want back more than anything. Was the best counter to DR boards and there was gamesmanship to figure out exactly where it should go to work. It forced other builds to think about order beyond stick baron on the right and profit.

This. Dragon builds are based on other things and involve scaling with non-dragon minions, but stick a nadina on it blazing skyfin builds are suddenly dragons.

HSReplay suffers from some of the same problems here as it does in constructed.

It’s a huge poison stat stick that works well with both murlocs and elementals, shocking I know. Every time they’re in a lobby I see them hit minimum 150/150. Just this last game there was a 224/224 with poison. You’re massively downplaying how strong it is in both tribes. It’s even good in menagerie.

When in doubt just bow. :joy: :sob:

This is funny because they’ve yet to add any real changes to Beast builds. The best builds always include Parrot/DR(Frogs/Wolf)/Rivendare.

i remember rolling my eyes at everyone leaping. today i totally forced a few beast builds because i was bored…

blzzy cant keep up with my attention span

You forgot the Sewer Rat. If they do it correctly it’s a board full of reccuring taunts.

Ah yes. A lot of pieces to make that specific build work, but it is a good one.

Dr. Boombox and Magmaloc absolutely need a nerf, based on the simple observation that these two are the minions that everyone plays - and wins with. Kalecgos, similarly, needs a buff - he has been in the game since season 1, I’ve played the game since season 1, and I can count on one hand the number of solid Kalecgos builds I’ve encountered. The problem with buffing Kalec, as others have pointed out, is probably that dragons are solid already. To balance it out you would have to nerf Sindragosa, which would bring dragons overall right back down to terrible.

Both got nerfed already, in case you were living under a rock. In particular, moving dr boombox to tier 5 solved the issue with him ruining the early game. Seriously, people were winning games by staying at tier 4, grabbing dr boomboxes and using golden minions as discovers for Rivendare.

Now if you want to make a reliable dr boombox board you need to spend a turn upgrading to tier 5, and that is expensive. From there, tier 5 minions have a lower stock and now you won’t see half your lobby making 2 golden dr boomboxes. More like, 1-2 regular boombox and MAYBE a rivendare, if they aren’t dead already from using refreshes to dig for that.

This topic was made before it got nerfed, so no, I haven’t been living under a rock.
