[Battlegrounds] Casual player stuck in high MMR – HELP

Actually extremely weak, even with high rolls. Loses to just about everything now that it lost undead overflow synergy. Nevermind their most important piece is a high roll tier 6 minion.

Look, unless you get a SUPER early game Blazing Greasefire, it’s one of the weakest builds right now and you should ignore elementals unless fed the correct combos.

Power creep? Buddy, Pirates are one of the best builds right now because of their mix of board buffs and increased gold economy without the help from tavern spells, trinkets, or hero powers. It’s extremely high APM to play them too. Playing Pirates is like Grim Patron Warrior levels of skill and speed to execute.

That’s not power creep, that’s player skill creep. Players are getting better, the cards remain the same.

The system is just dumb compared to Constructed. You can enter a BGs the first day of the season and Firestone reports that I see 10K+ people in my lobby (for a day at best). That’s like seeing PocketTrain when I play at chicken 10 rank (literally).

They should just take the Constructed MMR system and use something similar in BGs.

That implies the core gameplay designs of BGs were different people than 2014’s.

Excuse me, but until the last season, it wasn’t like this and seeing such high number was an exceptional occurrence, not a daily basis.
In my opinion , it’s not healthy for the mode to see this and it has nothing to do with skills.

Especially in a mode mostly based on luck where if the game refuse to give you the good cards, you are screwed whatever skill you may have.

Unless that you have a way to cheat in order to get the cards you want but we can agree that’s unlikely to be possible, isn’t it?.

Seems you don’t like me criticizing this game, Carnivore-2587, as I get my post removed when I do.

Stop bleeping defending these idiot developers when they are doing a sh…ty job making this game fun.

Wut. I just called the Devs dumb.

This season is all over the place for me too. Some trinkets are miles above others in scaling or instant tempo gain. They absolutely overdid it with the amount of trinkets this time, the gimmick feels a lot worse now. More is not better.

And that’s not even the main problem really, most tavern 1-3 minions are garbage and either you hit a decent tavern for tempo early or you are forced to level up, staying behind and taking damage against the high rollers the next 2-3 turns. Unless you hit the nuts in tavern 5 or the smaller trinket helps you turn a corner or you are basically hopeless. Half the tavern will be yeeted out of the game by turn 7 by others’ highrolling. It’s extremely polarizing. A few things are too good and too many things are too bad. I like the new spell scaling mechanics they introduced but other than that this season feels poorly designed overall.

I’ve liked the 2 seasons before this so I guess it’s ok, but not a fan of this season thus far.

Its still luck, but you have a certain level of control. Namely, you try to influence your trinkets with certain tribes. Also you can rush to higher tavern tiers to snag key minions before others get a chance to clean out the shop.

Its not always in your control, but you can wrestle with it to make it play to your favor.

I think it’s more than luck involved here IMO.

This seasons minion pool was the worst and that’s not me talking that’s the best players in the game saying the minion pool was terrible. That said the last pass was very good at fixing the most egregious minions. Unfortunately they went a bit overboard on the buffs to some of the outliers and those need reeled in. The general feeling is that it’s still bad but not as bad as the start of the season.

The bigger issue is the trinkets. We still have some trinkets that will auto put you into top 4 or even first place if you get them early enough and know how to leverage them.

Most will know this but some may not. They changed the criteria this season for your first trinket. The ones offered to you are not influenced at all by what you have on board, hand or in the tavern currently. IE: Do not take minions thinking you will get a trinket based on that criteria. That comes into play with your greater trinket later. Ironically that’s why you can run away with a lobby when you get a greater trinket early that super charges your build.

I don’t think that’s how it works for an average player. I think it’s more of a bell curve where you finish 8th or 1st out of like 20-30 matches and finish 5-3rd on average most of the time.

That’s how it is for me nearly every season.

My finishes look more like this at the end of a season:

1st - 10 times
2nd - 15 times
3rd - 20 times
4th - 25 times
5th - 25 times
6th - 20 times
7th - 15 times
8th - 10 times

Are you winning son?

Two things:

  1. I saw you say “since the patch.” It was a fairly substantial rebalance. Any chance you’re sticking with things that worked earlier in the season and missing power combos that are now available? For instance, elementals were overpowered and now they’re a lot weaker.

  2. Agreeing with the others, as the season progresses the rating where things get tough will increase. A lot of competitive players may still be at 5,000 now, but they’ll work up to 6k, 6.5k in a bit, and the people still at 5k may be more casual or inefficient. Probably don’t need to wait too long.

You can’t just omit the first part of my statement, it’s kind of important:

This is a true statement. Lobbies never consist of equally skilled players which is why it doesn’t happen in reality.

Okay, you lost me, what?

Why are there no backsies on brackets anyway? It’s not like there’s a reward at the end of the season. They worried about people being smurfed? It’s happening in the 6k bracket anyway.

Obviously people don’t fit into this bracket, but they’re stuck there.

What are you struggling to follow? Do you think it’s common for 8 clones to queue up together? Lobbies may have people of similar skill, but I don’t think it’s controversial to say that finding 8 people of identical skill is impossible.

But they don’t. A lot of people in the 6k bracket are locked in with people that severely outskill them. There’s no way to fall back down to something closer to your skill level if you accidentally make it here.

I don’t know why, but it feels like it’s an easy ride up to 6k and then it’s just hard mode 90% of the time. That doesn’t feel like good matchmaking.

1st place before 5k is +300 rating. You can hit 4500 in 15 games. Even a 4th place is like +100.
But here in 6k land, 1st place is +100. 4th place is +0.

If you ended the previous season high on the leaderboards you will get +300 pts for much longer. I normally keep getting it till around 9800-10K depending on the season. An extreme example would be Jeef who ended last season at 20K and is still getting +300 at 15K.

One important point i forgot to add. This is on the Chinese server which is extremely competitive and has a greater volume of high rating players than the other servers.
