At what rank are you a good player?

rank and skill are not correlated mostly, it is more a matter of time that determines if you reach a high rank.

That being said, I’d argue that players that reach top 100 every month are pretty skillful and people that are consistently in top 100 in arena ratings.

I have to agree with others. Rank and skill are not always related.
If you are sub 1000 in Legend then you can play, at the least.
But I know players who don’t level anymore, and they are amazingly skilled.
I consider myself average, but I have also hit sub 1000 Legend.

HS is a bit of a casual niche game so the amount of good players is very small.
Its less then 25 players per server that can be considered good. It must be higher rank then top 25 because i have seen people in top 25 who i would not call a good player.
So maybe top 10 would be a decent benchmark.

If Scrotie were here, he’d argue that only the absolutely top players are good. Everyone else sucks.

The relevant definition of “good” is “skilled at doing or dealing with a specified thing.”

There are some head scratcher opinions out here, but anyone who is two standard deviations above the average rank should be considered “good” at the game.

Regardless of your elitist nonsense, players that reach legend each month are good players. Even those in “dumpster legend.”

This doesn’t mean rank is the only factor, but it’s a good enough proxy to not be discounted as a general indicator.

Considering bots get legend due to how easy some decks are…
If you abuse the meta, you climb, if you don’t, you don’t

At any rank. You don’t need a special rank to be a good player. If you enjoy the game and don’t wish anything bad to anyone even when you’re on a losing streak, then it’s more than enough.

If I get hit with an OTK immediately I wish bad things upon my opponent. But I can’t help that.

You should consider getting some help. I did and it worked out great.

I’m aware. If I played meta I’d do 10x better but I’d rather play things I enjoy

To answer the OP’s question, any rank below Diamond 4 is worth nothing and every rank above Diamond 5 matters a little bit. This is because as long as win streak bonus is in effect, climbing is trivialized, needing only a 42% winrate to advance. Diamond 5 is the first place where you actually have to win most the time to climb.

And I don’t care if it’s a bot. I mean, I’m not comfortable with bots being better than some humans, but if a bot legit climbs to Legend then I respect the bot.

False. It is true that being a good player isn’t EQUAL to rank. But it’s still very much related. It’s a lot like how having a strong work ethic isn’t EQUAL to having a high income, but having a strong work ethic is absolutely related to having a high income.

If I had to draw a line in the sand, black and white, yes. You’re not really good at a thing unless you’re good enough at that thing to make money doing it. But in the sense of a spectrum rather than a binary, we can start counting skill at the point where you need to win most of the time to climb.

This isn’t always correct. I can name plenty of people who inherited their wealth and simply make money from their money.

No, it is correct. You seem not to understand the difference between a correlation and a correlation of 1. Is every hard working person rich? No. But that’s not the claim. The claim is that it is ALWAYS the case that if you study an economy as a whole then there will be a statistically significant positive correlation between work ethic and income. Or in other words, the people who inherit a fortune and work hard are going to do better on average than those who inherit a fortune and slack off, while the people who are born poor and work hard are going to be better off on average than the people who are born poor and slack off.

It’s like speaking your name summons you.

I still disagree. I can also name plenty of people who started out at a given tier of wealth, worked hard their entire lives, and never advanced financially.
Meritocracy is a myth.
Were it real, many schoolteachers and nursing assistants would be rolling in money.

The only rank that matters is World Champion. If you are not first your last.

Shake and bake brother

Bronze 10 or higher.

Supposedly you are matched against people of equal skill. So don’t look at your rank, look at who are you playing against.
A steady stream of legend level opponents? Yep, you are one of them too, regardless of your actual rank.
