I don’t know what it is. HS always seems to boil down to aggro at the end of it all. I don’t enjoy playing aggro as I think it is mindless. I enjoy other metas. But aggro always wins out because the few cards that work against early aggro from the other metas either aren’t enough, or if you don’t happen to draw them, you are auto-dead. It used to be you would get beat by turn 5-6 vs. aggro. Now it’s down to turn 4-5. Blizzard doesn’t seem to have a problem with this. Retiring Divine Favor is a start but it’s gotten worse now that there are plenty of cheap buff cards in the early game to turn 5-6 so it’s just relentless and then once they get enough buffed bodies, it falls out of reach.
I don’t think that playing aggro to counter aggro is the solution because then it would be some other kind of card game. With all of the cards that will be retired come April, I think it will devolve quickly back into the typical aggro fest in the usual 2 weeks or so after the release of a new expansion.
My problem with aggro is that there are always options in the early to mid game. On every turn there is a significant play. Some control decks I have played you may get unlucky and not having anything to play until turn 5. Watching the aggro player blow by you and win within a few minutes seems counter to what I would think Blizzard envisioned for this game.
