The recent server merge caused me to lose 2 (out of 5) character names, which I’ve used and re-used since the game’s launch. The loss is an unfair consequence of the server merge to myself and the many others affected by this issue.
To resolve this issue on a larger scale, I suggest a two-tiered naming system that identifies each character by the user’s account name first, allowing users to choose any name – even if its shared by another player on that server.
Additionally, implementing a system where names that have been inactive for a certain period (e.g., one year) become available for other players after the owner has been advised with a deadline. This would keep the name pool fresh and give active players a chance to reclaim desired names.
Lastly, a rename token is insufficient compensation for the inconvenience. Provide compensation in the form of orbs, crests, keys, and/or other unique items.
This move by the team makes playing the game less enjoyable… and the paltry renaming token offer is the tip of the iceberg. Players are voicing concerns across social media about the mergers disrupting clans, ranking/leaderboards (e.g. pvp, immortals, etc.), overcrowding (impacting bounties), and other quality of life issues.
