the issue is that there really shouldnt be any respecs to begin with. people dont understand the low level ecosystem that no respecs create. it keeps the low level experience of everyone very vibrant because everyone is constantly leveling a new character, its one of the defining traits of d2.
Apparently some old people ( scientists have carbon dated them to be from Cretaceous Periods ) complained the free swap mechanic wasn’t rewarding in Diablo 3.
They wanted to spend hours making a build that felt terrible and having to reset it from beginning to do the grind.
So paying to reset skills was a compromise
It had 2 main uses
Gold Sink - you ended up never having any need to use gold in D3. Now you have a reason to spend gold.
That is probably likely all true, I think it is cheap in the early levels so you can iron out your build. I do not really see an issue with gold being used to reset talents as long as it does not become prohibitive.
It was bad game design then and it’s even worse game design now. You shouldn’t have to roll a new character to try a new spec on the same class. Respecs should be free and unlimited.
that creates an empty and soulless early game for new people after the original rush of the new season is over. its really bad, thats how wow is basically, no one rerolls they respec, and early game content is completely abandoned, people even joke the game doesnt start until max level. its terrible, its better to keep people rerolling. leveling 1 to 60 should just be faster than grinding the gold to respec basically.
and who would hurt it that you have trillion of gold? you can not trade you can not buy progression with gold. it juste doesnt matter in the game.
its just another thing to annoy players. thats the history of Blizzard. for every good thing there are 3 that are annoying with out any sence that its in the game.
Put some actual effort in, in learning and getting better skilled at a game. Learning all it’s systems and gathering a knowledge base so you can do better the next time. You don’t need any 3rd party tools or guides to learn the game, just play. If it costs you some gold to learn, well it won’t cost you gold the next time will it. Blizzard is making this game with the intent that people play dozens of characters over dozens of seasons. You won’t be completely ignorant forever
Respecing is Dirt cheap early on, and you can try and experiment every skill up to and including ultimates. The gold cost goes up to disincentivize constant build swapping for every type of content, which is a good thing. If you need to completely change your build every now and again because of new drops you absolutely can
We need to be able to save build load outs and important them with a single click. This idea of paying gold everytime we want to change a talent is just dumb
It’s so cheap to respec I can’t imagine having too little gold to do so. Kill mobs anywhere for 5 minutes and sell the gold, you should be good to go.
Are you refunding all your skills at once? Did you know that you could right click and just refund one skill at a time? That will help you to never notice a cost to respec.
Yes, you should. That was one of the best experiences, leveling up a character that felt it got more identity the further you went. Being able to switch infinitely it just makes the whole leveling part feel like why even bother
