This has confused me since I first played on friday for the early access. You can definitely skip a lot of stuff, but then randomly, a lot of the time you can’t.
Well purely by chance I figured out that if you alt tab while you have an “unskippable” scene/talking happening and alt tab back, the skip function is right there and works perfectly. Every single time this has worked.
I don’t know what the bug is causing this but that’s the workaround I’ve found and hopefully that can help someone find a solution to let players always have the skip function (because there is a LOT of voice acting in this game and it takes up a lot of time).

Some quests’cutscenes show the UI indicator for how to skip them, some do not. The consistency I found was: left-click > it shows the UI telling you what button to press to skip > press Esc > it skips and you can resume playing.
During some quests/cutscenes this wasn’t working - clicking or pressing Esc did nothing, however if I Alt-Tabbed to another application and then Alt-Tab back to the game, it then allowed to skip using left-click > Esc. 1
whatever is preventing/blocking the ability to skip sometimes is removed every time the game is minimized/alt tabbed out and back.
definitely feels like a bug.
Can confirm this issue is still present in Server Slam, although much less often. I leveled 1 char to 20 and saw the issue 2-3 times. Pressing ESC does nothing > Alt+Tab to another app > Alt-Tab back to the game > now pressing ESC shows the ESC skip tooltip and skipping works.
I see this issue a lot in the server slam beta. It seems to have nothing to do with which dialogue it is, it feels random. I’ve gone through with 3 characters, on each of them different dialogues were an issue.
EDIT: I should add - that in play sessions where this has been an issue, it happened a lot. During other play sessions, it didn’t show up even once. I hope this helps.

they seemed to have removed the workaround for this bug and you now cannot skip some things even if you alt tab and back.
The bug still exists. I alt-tab out, and back in to skip boring dialogue.
