I am playing on Xbox One, and plagued with constant freezes, infinite loading screens, invisible walls, all of which crash the game to the Home screen and sometimes cause the console to shut down/restart. The oft-cited “answer” to these of “get a new console” is unacceptable to me because I paid full price for this game (not free Gamepass) and on Seasons 1-2 were very stable, in fact I had better stability then than PS and PC friends. These workarounds occcasionally let me play a few hours.
- Unplug console/clear cache EVERY time I boot up.
- Reduce console 1080p to 720p.
- Turn off automatic updates of console/apps. What is happening here is the app refresh on Home page is randomly adding to console loading.
- Change home screen background/wallpaper to Xbox default. I noticed that after game crashes, toggling the Home background from color to default Xbox seems to help.
- Staying away from Helltides and towns next to Helltides. I get invisible walls when a Helltide is about to spawn next to a town I am in.
- Turned off cross-platform play, never play with friends and have somebody else post messages to my clan page.
- Mostly doing cellars and side quests, my character is now level 65-ish.

Click Options on the Diablo app square–> Manage game/app data–>Save data–>Delete. This seems to work fairly well to get past log-in without crashing. Blizzard has your save data, so this creates a fresh local save file. You have to go through the Settings start screen.

Opt out of Trade chat, this seems to cause lag when in an area where people are bombarding with spam.
I don’t feel any of this is acceptable, but I am determined to play the game I bought.
*Update 5/25/ 2024. Of all the above, #8 deleting the console save file and getting a new one upon log-in is the most effective in getting a stable game going. Try this before the other solutions.
*Update 5/29.
The patch has improved the errors, but still unplayable on Xbox One. The game no longer crashes immediately when logging in and opening a menu, instead it lasts just a little longer to crash in the first NMD, like the guy who gave great date, only to disappoint after dessert. And the game more often crashes to Home, but doesn’t reboot the console.
Thus slight improvement in the errors, but nobody can play like this. I wonder if this is why it’s on Gamepass now. Looks good, but you can’t play, so you didn’t pay! Unfortunately, I did pay full price for the game which is still advertised to play.
