Wow, that was extremely dissapointing

So let me start this off by taking us back to D2. You start in Tristam, you work your way into the Cathedral, fighting off various bosses like the Butcher etc, and end up at the end of the Act fighting off Andarial herself, a lesser prime evil.

Act 2. You hop on a caravan to go east to Caldeum. There you fight big bad bugs, Lacuni, sorcerers, and finally Duriel…another lesser Prime Evil.

Act 3. You SAIL east…remember this… to go to Kurast. From there you fight a bunch of little shts, little shts stacked on little sh*ts and sorcerers, bugs, and finally Mephisto himself (the Prime Evil of Hatred).

Act 4. You teleport into the heavens where you fight all kinds of things, including angels and finally Diablo himself, the Prime Evil Lord of Terror.

This was all in one game, one purchase, the game is still going strong all this time later because the progression of the game is extremely good, you feel your character rising up the ranks. Now we can skip over d3 as I dont think its really relevant here (the devs said they wanted a more D2 feel to this gamem even tho its progression is quite similar to what we got in 2) and go to D4.

To keep this post from being TOO long (i know too late im sure), and you get a weird kinda back and forth progression to the original game where you fight Lesser Prime evils, then just dudes hopped up on some Mommy Lillath juice, then some rando church people, then back to a lesser prime evil, then back to some more powerful humans, then mommy herself. Weird progression but okay.

Now this expansion. “Chase down ney” only to be stabbed in the back by a burny boi, while we stare at Ney. Then they apparenly let her go (why?) and then we get saved by someone, we run all over the place trying to help Ney get loose of the stone, go into the spirit realm, fight some dude we never really heard of before this, then we go back and fight the burny boi, then we fight a “splinter of Mephisto” and we get betrayed.

This expansion should have culminated with us fighting Mephisto, only for him to have released his brothers (as we heard him say he was going to do) and then the reprecussions of that could have been dealt with in the next expansion. 60 friggin dollars to have half a story is not okay. Instead we paid all this money for an intermission story. Pretty lame imo, Careful blizzard your activision is showing.

Edit: Oh yea, and the sailing east, why? I had no idea it was literally just like, over the river over there, and if you want, you could like take the bridge. Its about 5 minutes give or take from Caldeum to Kurast via horse, if you sprint. It just breaks the image of a vast and unique world when its all kind of just…well right there. So where was Ney going in the boat in the last one, why was she in a boat at the start of this one? Why didnt we follow in a boat?

TLDR: game was conceived by prompting chatgpt for storyline and plot, then used dall-e to generate a map, then we paid money to buy this and blizzard is on a cruise drinking spirits

that same blizzard thinks we’re coming back next season and next expansion

there’s only so many times until each cut becomes deadly.

enjoy yourself blizzard, you’re fired.

Not to harp on this too hard but I find this opener to your post very funny and then it gets even funnier the more incorrect details are tossed in for your recollection of Diablo 2.

How do i say this, and like not be mean about? You focusing on small things like Tristram being a place you rescue cain from and not a place you start, when its pretty obvious what i meant, and the fact that i used the Butcher, rather than The Smith etc is exactly why I know you are the exact demographic that Blizzard is aiming their sales department at. But yea, go off, I guess getting two things mixed up or just assuming someone else is smart enough to understand a conveyed meaning without having to spell it out was too much for some people.

I actually agree that d4 is trash compared to d2, but you are mixing d2 and d3 together, you never go into the heavens in d2, thats d3. In d2 you descend into the chaos sanctuary and fight diablo there.

I think you wanted to actually say Khanduras, Overlords, Lut Gholein (not Caldeum), Duriel is just a Lesser Evil (not a “Lesser Prime Evil”), and the only angel you fight is Izual. Unless I’m misremembering some monster lore in regards to the rest of the Act 4 bestiary.

What’s blatantly incorrect with what he said?

Going the extra mile of discreditation attempt to defend your beloved bad product?

I just said I found it funny, don’t be weird Anu.

I don’t disagree on anything said really. The ending was abrupt enough that, in the brief hindsight once I got the achievement for completing it, what I thought was the second lass boss of Vessel of Hatred was actually the last one. I wasn’t exactly thrilled by the kind of “so close yet so far” roundabout storytelling to try and solve the presented problem. It definitely felt like a middle child to a trilogy or something similar.

Glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed that the geography felt very compact and a bit strange. I know we shouldn’t have an in-game 24 - 72 hour ride on a ship to get to Kurast but the landscape felt very condensed. Overall kind of worried, mostly for the sake of the story’s construction, about this whole “one expansion a year” model they want to do.

I love this part. You say to someone else not to be weird, when you come in to a thread and randomly nit pick various words (yes words) to correct rather than understanding what the overall point was and commenting on that. Then youre like, I just found it funny, like that makes up for you trying to discredit the entire post with some random nerd BS. Bro, you derailed this thread with your nonsense when it was designed to point out (to the devs) how this story felt rushed, unfinished and unsatisfying. Instead of saying exactly what you said AFTER Anu pointed that ish out, which would have been on topic and inline with the original post, you decided to be that "“Pushes up glasses Umm Ahktually…”. Whatever man.

If you want to use Diablo 2 as an example of being satisfying, you’d think it would satisfy you enough to remember a small handful of proper nouns.

I’m sorry your thread is apparently so easily derailed two posts in even when you have people on your side about some points, myself included. I am truly sorry for your loss.

The people behind Rings of Power wrote this game lmao

I used plenty of proper nouns, if you didnt notice my post was a little bit longer, I also wasnt trying to go back to Diablo School to take a refresher on every mob, zone name and diety type in the game before I made my post. It was simply to point out how the flow of the game in Diablo 2 (the game the devs said they wanted to mold D4 after) was much better and far more fluid than D4 and how the expansion exacerbates this even more.

You decided then to nit pick, (as I already pointed out, twice now) and when i clarified what the intent of the post was, you doubled down to nitpick even more. This is what is called “de railing” a post. Its pretty sh*tty imo to do over something so mundane and even dumber when you actually agree with the post itself yet fail to comment anywhere on the substance of the post until someone else calls you out on it.

OP, Blizz needs to milk this game. Next xpac we kill Mephisto, then Baal appears.

Then next xpac we kill Baal and Diablo appears….rinse repeat.

No Paladin or Crusader class gets released cuz colonizers or whatever.

I actually would not really mind this sort of development style, if it wasnt for the fact that this expansion (which was the price of a full on game) did not follow that mold at all. Instead it just basically introduced us to someone we already knew existed and had us fight a small fraction of him before ending.

Well… yes? When you want to have a discussion or make a point about Diablo’s lore and narrative and storytelling, it usually helps when the stuff you want to cite is accurate to help better make your points. This clearly isn’t a balance or UI or sound design or art direction thread you want to have, it’s a story one.

My apologies, I forgot I need to be a professor in Diablo Lore before I make a post about how this expansion is bad compared to the game is trying to base itself off of. I should have consulted you first before I made such an eggregious error of lore quality.

My guy, this is a blizzard forum post about a sh*tty expansion, not a dissertation on how the fall of Tristram is felt throughout the entirety of the games lineage.

Edit: you can keep typing and trying to defend yourself if you want, im going to ignore it now tho and move on. This is stupid.

Your opening post is talking about how you’d like Diablo lore and story to play out in its latest release while trying to cite elements from previous games. Surely you can take a second to see the humor in tripping at the starting line.

I think they follow the script of Supernatural with 14 seasons with 10 episodes each.

You will get to fight the prime evils on the 12, 13th and 14th Expansions :joy:

Agree with lots of your sentiments.

But no, we did not go to the Heavens in Act 4. That was Pandemonium Fortress. There were angels in the fortress, but we did not fight any. It was corpse vomiters, gloams, abyss knights, inferno demons, Hephasto, Izual. Not to detract from your post, but wtf were you smoking when you played Act 4 in D2 lol??

The OP absolutely nails it.

They brought back the LEAST popular Act from Diablo 2. WTF?

They made it seem super close and basic. Not disant and exotic.

They continually have us fighting random humans and human groups and have killed all the epicness of the story.

Sin War?

Demons?

Devils?

Hell?

Heaven?

COME ON! THIS IS DIABLO! Speaking of which… where the heck is Diablo?
