d2 or d3 itemization to come to d4 if you could choose, i do like both of them, but really miss the look of the armour in D2 and the archon plates
d2 for sure D3 is not real diablo. i even prefer my unpopular take that D4 is even currently better than D3, just maybe more rough, but more interesting. D3 is too casual, across the board, its just grinding and leveling and game tells you what is good, beyond chasing Grs gear doesn’t matter that much, so fun but casual. D2 by a mile is more true to arpgs and rpgs that diablo once was. D4s is good, just wish they made it less junk and rng grind based.Items feel less valuable, less special, i was thinking alot about why i still think D1 is great and D2 fits also, that need to find better gear and the gold to buy better gear is just a better journey, it has more of a struggle to survive feel, and your are at the mercy of searching with rng, that was the whole point, goes way back to even table top gaming where you search a deck for loot on your quest, Current gear grind and over drops for mat grinding works in mmos, but i dislike it in arpgs. I see nothing that fun about seeing dupes over and overs, especially in the scared and ancestral pools, its just too much sometimes. What i do like is the gear crafting and stat options, but finding the gear you want and and feeling like you will never see that roll again on a higher level gear, can feel like a choir. I think this is where it goes bad, and i think the way gear stats are altered and crafted in the division 2, something like it would help, being completely at the mercy of rng for the gear stats i want is frustrating considering i can only change one stat, so my luck needs to be even higher to get find it with one re-roll.
Other than that its more interesting what i can do with it interms of my playstyle than 3 was.
That’s my overly long answer XD
Tldr- D2
D2 is dull. Only +% or simple +/- affixes. No real change to skills/effects.
D4 is a good start, however they should/could implement more skill variations and less stat bloating.
Definitely D2 itemisation but without op items like Enigma, Infinity and other runewords that changed its gameplay to slideshow, super fast monster clearing and made many other items useless. It is great system but got unbalanced over time making melee almost pointless to play but overall every drop item is worth looking at during leveling instead of being flooded with rares that become instant salvage.
Diablo 2 items all day.
Till date items in D2 always create an excitement when they drop and it’s always interesting to read theyr abilities (also Runewords).
In D4 on the other hand items are simply boring…They always come with 4 affixes only and always the same generic stats.
Nothing interesting or iconic.
Yes they’re Harlequins Crest, Grandfather, etc with special abilities…but in D4 they’re only memorable becasue it’s so tedious to farm for them.
The only game that has (or had) worse & more boring items was Wolcen in it’s EA phase.
Hope with the items rework in S4 they’ll go away from the 4 affix system and create iconic items, like in D2 back in the days.
I lean more towards diablo 2 itemization or something new, if they ever go for diablo 3 itemization I will instant leave the game lol diablo 3 is the worst arpg.
This.
I would love to see an improved and modern version of the D2 itemization. And I miss the runes, by the way. I like D3, but not the itemization of this game.
d4 of course, itemization is okeiish, we just need the real mony oction house!
Nobody likes damage on Tuesday stats aka d4
D4. They just need to tighten it up. Add more proc stuff. Remove trash. Remove duplicates like shock and lightning its dumb. Add some cool stuff. Make it manageable and calculable. I should be able to put a piece of gear on and know if its better or not instantly in offense defense sustain ect
We dont want runewords or 1 in a million drops
D2 for sure. Itemization goes like D2>D3>D4
D3 is pretty close to D4, both is bad for many reasson but D3 itemization is less chore to managed at least, thats why its better.
We should stay away from D3 set design but I agree that I started to hate managing aspects in D4. It sounded like cool idea on paper but current implementation is just bad. Even feels better in Immortal.
Did you ever passed nightmare? For example Enigma chest is more gamechanging item than D4 has
D2 has much more playstyle altering items than D4. That is like my main problem with itemization here. Only druid team managed to add some decent items like this.
D2 items… you could tell by the items name and colour if it was worth picking up. D4 just needs a filter option that would help a lot.
D2 items quantity and variety…
D3 crafting, rerolling and gambling…
D2 itemization, its much less restrictive and doesnt pigeonhole you into a build. Thats why D2 has so much more creative and varied builds per class that are viable on the highest difficulties while in D3 and in consequence D4, everyone is running around as a hota barb or ball lightning sorc.
lmao is this even a serious question?
D2 itemization is still one of the best in genre, while word D3 and word itemization should not be allowed to mention in 1 sentence.
But the thing that majority of players don’t really understand is that you can’t just make D2 itemization in D4/D3 core mechanics. It’s just doesn’t work like that, completely opposite things.
The core mechanics of d3/d4, including itemization, have been specially simplified a lot, and it is impossible to make a conditionally complex/interesting itemization in d3/d4 core mechanics paradigm.
So there is only one chance that we will get good itemization in this game - new expansion with the revision of all core mechanics, but i doubt that it’s even possible.
D2 i was always happy when i found a unique item. In DIV im still trying to get a unique crossbow.
D2 is the obvious choice.
I never really understood how they veered so far away from this in the first place
Yeah I agree D3 itemization was also bad. But if you look a bit closely you will see that only difference is in D3 some items are green but rest is same.
One of the main problem D3 and D4 has devs made gear backwards. They first invent build and after that add gear around it. That leads to situation where you have predefine gear from 90%. In D3 its just more ez to see that thx to sets.
It should be opposite, they should first invent cool items/aspects/whatever and players would made builds out of that.
In the end it will be similiar ofc and there will be bis items for some builds, but there will be much more variety.
