Worlds Worst Hardcore Death - Games Broken

Your character is instantly killed, even if you leave/log out of the game.
I had full life, enchanted flame shield, 7.5 seconds barrier when life drops below healthy.
Whats the point of hardcore if nothing in the actual game can kill you (other than uber Lilith), but leaving the game instantly kills you?
See for yourselves:

I see what happened here. This was purely your own error. Allow me to explain;

  1. When you clicked leave game you exited before the 9 seconds was up which left your character vulnerable for the 8 remaining seconds (character stays in game for those remaining 8 seconds, this is to prevent people exploiting death prevention by unplugging their consoles or ALT+F4ing on PC).

  2. As you clicked leave game, an enemy mob had 8 seconds to take your HP from 100% to 0% and it happened which is why it took several seconds for you character to say it was dead in the menu.

PS: I am however sorry for your loss. We play HC because we love the nature of it. Keep it up man you got this.

You had a mob run up on you, and the lag on log out let it kill you…next time actually make sure area is CLEAR…

Toodles!

Yeah a mob ran up and killed you while you left game. Being sorc I assume mobs destroy you pretty easy if you don’t do anything.
Feel like barbs especially if you have life on kill and thorns along with good defense don’t experience leaving game deaths like you had often or at all, I haven’t had a single network logout death after playing 100+ hours.

There is other mobs and things out there that can cause your death too besides Lillith. Just doing same dungeon like you was doing over and over again is good way to avoid them though.

Add quilboard or whatever that was to the list  A couple of mistakes here - extra step taken to leave dungeon instead of directly TP to town; running in a bit to agro mobs around entrance; Insta confirming that yes leave, when it says you will be on a timer for 8 seconds. Probably bad habbit still can work on that its still early in the launch  I am actually quite impressed how they handle death in selection screen, not even an error or whatever, just your signature here please

Rookie mistake. TP to town before logging or always wait for the timer. Looks like you were about to get swarmed.

Same thing happened to me today, and everyone saying “oh well your guy was technically still in game because you fast exited”. But your character was already dead by the time you hit the character screen an instant later? That was ONE mob running up to you.

There is something else at play here essentially instant murdering players if they exit game with a mob nearby.

I’ve played HC since og d2 and getting killed this way was far more deflating than any of my prior DC deaths or otherwise.

why you tp out dunjon ? tp to village instead

You tried to save the 20-40 seconds it takes to ride to a reset dungeon after a fresh log in, only to waste 50+ hours of your level 87 toon.

TP next time. R.I.P.

RIP. Never log out in open world ESEPECIALLY in WT4. Lesson learned.

It sure sucks.
But as others have mentioned you’re pretty much breaking every log-out rule in hardcore.

  1. Don’t log out outside of town.
  2. If you want to risk it and break rule 1, NEVER skip the countdown.

And as for your question what the point of hardcore is when nothing can kill you…
Stop speccing so defensively
I’m not saying it’s a good thing to die, but using flame shield enchantment is a huge nerf to your DPS compared to the other options you have.

Don’t plan for failure.

How do you know there weren’t 5 more bug dudes that swarmed him after?

Who establish those rules? It’s like playing blind and finding those rules…lets be real, the game should be changed to instant log out and save your character instead of the current situation…event if few players take advantage of that, a lot of players could actually play HC without worrying about other factors besides the actual gameplay.

Fair enough, “rules” sounds a bit wrong
I meant guidelines for avoiding accidental deaths in HC.

But I wholeheartedly believe that the current version of TPs are much better than instant log-outs, as it cheapen the experience of HC and affect the overall design.

But of course the stability issues should be fixed.

I’d like to see the scroll working as mentioned by others, I don’t care about players abusing the alt+f4 / unplugging their consoles, We’re at the mercy of any power / connection lose. I didn’t die due to the game and it feels really bad, I’d prefer an actual in game dead.

PoE has instant DC, If any player do that approach, they’re lying to themselves, that’s why Diablo 4 should implement the same and let each player decide their own path, maybe after this race for the first 1000.

Even if for the sake of argument 5 more showed up (despite the video showing 1), there were ~4 seconds between his forced exit and his reentry attempt. So I guess consider me skeptical that a level 87 sorc at full health died in those 4 seconds to a hypothetical swarm of bugs.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is literally the same as Diablo 3. You always get a 10 second log out time unless you’re in town

Logged out in the wild, forced the log before timer was up while a mob was running towards your character.

You did it to yourself.
