World Map Fog is Driving Me Nuts

I’ve never come across a World Map that actively fills me with anxiety quite like Diablo 4’s. In D 3, I had zero issues with navigation due to the Fog of War gradually fading as I explored an environment.
In D 4, I’m not quite sure who thought it would be a great idea to have entire chunks of the map getting revealed, but not the stuff within them.
This makes it a nightmare trying to keep track of where I’ve been and what I’m missing in an area.

I actively don’t want to play the game anymore because just opening the map makes my eyes bug out as I try to figure out where I’ve been.

I just pick an area and do everything available then move to the next.

I completely gave up on trying to find the lilith statues legit as I have no idea where I have and haven’t gone for the most part.

i have agree either have fog of war or don’t , not this whatever it is fog thing that blizzards new intern came up with

If you havent’ discovered a Lilith statue, it won’t show up on your map.
If you discovered one, but didn’t activate it, it won’t show up on your map.
If you discovered one, and then activated it, it will show up on your map as a greyed statue icon.

Yeah, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to actually explore and discover them. I did for 60% of them but with the entire map clear and having no idea where I haven’t searched, I just don’t care anymore.

Duh. This is obviously not what I’m talking about when we are mentioning the fog of war for the map

There are actually 160 Lilith statues if that helps you keep track.

and as chunks of the map are revealed to you instead of slowly as you move about unexplored areas it makes it next to impossible to find statues legit ,

your reply isnt very helpful

fog of war should be a gradual reveal as u explore the map so that we as players can tell exactly where we have and havnt been ,

The map tells you for each region how many statues there are. But I don’t feel like recombing every area of the map to search for statues. If the fog of war was like normal games, the areas that I was missing would likely still be covered and I would have a hint of where to look.

It doesn’t help that each new area looks like a literal spider web of tiny paths that branch off into other tiny paths.

Yeah , this is so bad. I am completely fine with fog but for love of god dont reveal huge parts of map at once as i dont know where i have been already…

I cheated and used a map to help. However, I can say that most of them are on little bumps or points of land in random places.

I know. As I said, I found roughly 60% on my own and am now just using a map to clear the rest of them.

which as this thread is trying to point out , u dont know if you have been to all the nooks and bumps , as the fog reveals every where in a given section in one hit, anoying as it means 9/10 players will use external sources to find and mark the ones they have found ,

It is beyond me that nobody at blizzard thought it would be a good idea to unlock already picked up waypoints and discovered places to alts if you chose to skip the campaign.

I think a pretty good solution would be to have a lighter fog still remain, when you reveal a new map chunk. only the outline of the map would initially be revealed and the light fog indicating what nooks and crannies you’ve actually explored

Hey Narune,

I completely understand and share your frustrations with the World Map navigation in Diablo 4. It can be incredibly stressful and confusing to deal with the mechanic of revealing chunks of the map without showing the contents within them.

I agree that it creates a sense of anxiety when trying to keep track of where we’ve been and what we might have missed in certain areas. The lack of clarity in distinguishing between explored and unexplored regions, especially when the map revealing mechanics blend with the background color, only adds to the frustration.

It’s unfortunate that this design choice has made navigating the game world more challenging and time-consuming than it needs to be. I’ve also spent an excessive amount of time searching for that one area that remains uncovered.

While it’s important to embrace innovation and new ideas, it’s equally important to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience. I hope that the developers take player feedback into consideration and make necessary adjustments to improve the map navigation in future updates.

In the meantime, hang in there and keep exploring! Together, we can overcome these obstacles and continue our journey through the dark realms of Diablo 4. If you ever need a fellow adventurer to join you, feel free to reach out.

Best of luck, and may your future explorations be filled with more clarity and excitement!
