World Bosses. This is not the way

So many treasure golins running around the chubby world boss. My favourite fight so far!

Just did one in WT4 (I am lvl 70, highest lvl was 95 I think, but a good variety of levels) and it took longer but still very doable.
I guess I am not seeing griefers.

Not every attack, only a handful of signaled heavy attacks.

This one skeleton boss, I forgot the name, has this attack that splits into 3 rotating beams. It is fun to play and also to see other players react to it. Everyone knows you better move or get melted.

I want to see more of that.

Just did a world boss. I like the changes. People were dying, boss died with 8 minutes left. Actually felt like a fight instead of a 2 second push over.

That’s the one I completed a couple minutes ago. I’d completely forgotten how fun the bosses were originally. I’d also forgot their mechanics. Almost died a couple times. One dude was corpse running the whole time lol

Wandering Death.
Just move closer to him when he does that attack and you can run around him and avoid it. Less ground to cover vs running further away.

Well said. It’s what a certain crowd seems to want for whatever reason.

When I’m attempting something I’m undergeared/leveled for the 1st time, I’m going to rely on stacking defensive layers and play more cautiously. I expect those layers to protect me even better when it’s no longer my first time attempting something and I’m no longer undergeared/leveled.

I genuinely don’t get the crowd that is perfectly ok with farm encounters having this 5+ minute dance and complete shift to playing these games as if they were part of the Souls IP. World bosses taking longer than 30 seconds-3 minutes? No thanks. There is a pit exclusively designed to be pushed and provide exponential damage and health increases which they have also rendered defenses pointless for.

Why even call them bosses if they’re 30 seconds? Or what they were last season, 3 seconds. At that point, they’re just trash mobs.

And comparing the world bosses to a souls game is…crazy. On so many levels.

I can go closer to like for like if you want. I’ve made it no secret I’m an LE fan.

When I did T4 Jul’ra the 1st time I had to execute everything perfectly, and that was fine with me.

BUT…as with all these games I knew I’d be killing her many many more times as she is part of the loop.

I don’t want that experience over and over again for a boss I consider on farm. I can kill her in seconds now and have been able to do so for quite some time.

The experience was similar with many of their bosses the first time.

I’ve only attempted Abberoth twice, got him to 80% and just finally watched a vid to better prepare for his mechanics. And I’m talking on a 1000+ corruption clearing aspirational BiS character. I expect to be able to kill him quickly after that first kill too,

You’re talking about bosses we have been killing for over a year now, that many are only killing for their season journey requirement or quick loot anyway. Why you all want to spend more than a minuscule amount of time on them is beyond me. This isn’t the genre for long epic battles, never has been.

They are bosses usually because they have exclusive loot that you aren’t guaranteed to get the 1st kill. Or the 10th. Or even the 100th. You have to farm them. I don’t want to dodge mechanics designed to trivialize defensive stats so that people can convince themselves they have ā€œskillā€.

These encounters are part of the games content, which I think should entertain a bit longer than it had before. I am sure the world boss fights were originally designed to be a spectacle rather than a 10 second fight.

Sometimes its not so much about the reward. But I would be all for it if the loot was buffed as well. Say the boss loot is joined by the nightmare dungeon sigil statue, which has a lot more points than a level 100 dungeon. How long is the boss allowed to live now?

There’s 12 people with varying levels/gear/builds. Shouldn’t take long. I don’t disagree with them being designed with different intent, and that’s because Blizz tried to create an MMO lite in a genre about slaying hordes of enemies as efficiently as possible. With the right gear/build/stats, nothing should live long ultimately. It is how the genre has always been.

It’s not about the reward? I’m sorry you play ARPGs for another reason besides min/maxing and getting better gear? Not even like the mount armor/trophies? You legit enjoy and play just to go fight world bosses?

One good thing is if there’s a BCE Necro in your instance due to how BCE works they’ll never really trigger the resistance with big swings but will absolutely maul with a little setup as BCE gets 5+ ticking away on the boss. They effectively bypass this new mechanic.

Yes, but this is not a weird opinion. If something is not fun, I dont keep doing it just because of the rewards.

In Season 4, world bosses were not worth going for because there was nothing to play. No effort in watching them die so fast. It was quite boring.

They actually did have a purpose for awhile when they were the best way to get the prisms. This game (and most ARPGs) aren’t designed to make the great stuff ā€œeasilyā€ obtainable if you aren’t farming. D4 really struggles as there is just so little imagination to the loot in general.

The fun aspect generally in these games is the dopamine hit you get upon getting an upgrade, not on finally killing that boss you’ve already had on farm forever.

The tradeoff is the farmed stuff usually can be completed quickly so with sufficient mats in D4’s case you usually can get what you are after. That’s my issue with wanting a bunch of mechanics on bosses that give no rewards.

I’m actually more ok with LE’s Jul’ra mechanics because I have anywhere from a 25-100% chance of getting a much better or downright amazing item as she is killed to craft legendaries. D4 offers nothing similar. Everything is an attempt to extend engagement metrics.

Let’s be real-S4:

  1. Spam blood maiden/level/get loot.
  2. Do both capstones (skip T3).
  3. Do NM dungeons at least to get glyphs to levels 15.
  4. Do more blood maiden for GA items or any missing 5/5 items.
  5. Do pit for masterworking/kill tormented bosses if you want ubers till your eyes bleed.
  6. Or just make an alt and max faction rep for ubers.

Add in any season journey steps as you are so inclined, and of course do wolf turn ins as desired.

And all of that is easily done in less than a day of playtime. World bosses are filler content that are just a step in a season journey chapter.

All of the challenge in this game is really just about time investment. In a game all about efficiency though why would you want to spend more time on filler content? I don’t want to spend the time it takes to reset masterworking, especially now that they added the ā€œchallengeā€ of tormented stacks to pit bosses.

Next steps make it so people can only res 4 times or they get kicked out. And anyone that just stays dead the whole fight gets no loot.

I would like for them to take them off timers.

  • Players can now Queue for a World Boss at any time.
  • Players can queue solo or in a group.
  • World Boss difficulty scales to amount of players present.
  • You can only get rewards up to 2 times every day per character however you can run a World Boss as often as you would like.
  • World Boss rewards have increased.

It is ridiculous that World Bosses are only at set times. I have a career, a family, and social obligations. This would allow more players to experience the content, especially since World Bosses are the only ones to drop certain things really…

Legion Raids happen frequently enough it isn’t much if a problem, but it is still kind of stupid to have content on a timer. Hell Tides were made permanent because of QoL. Time to fix this also.

It was a joke to have World Bosses die in seconds. With all my gear, I couldn’t hit the boss even once sometimes. Thanks for the change Blizz!

Now all they have to do is buff Legions like they did the World Boss.

Amen, thank you. I hate playing hot lava floor arpg simulator. I do like pushing harder content for greater, albeit less efficient rewards, but in a well designed game both types of players have options. Frankly, this genre is better off without big trade/auction house crap, too. It really ruins the experience overall.

I want to find phat loot, not save up a bunxh if currency and items i don’t want to i can go play market simulator and buy the exact gear I need for this ubergasmic build I’m following because i can’t be bothered to think or experiment, Og just want smash’n’more shiny I guess. May as well just wait for an ai that can play the games for some of these people, there’s a market fir that, too. Look at how popular streamers are. Jesus, what is this world anymore even?

They use to die in under 3 seconds… people are still getting geared but currently it feels more like 3 minutes. That seems fine to me. I’m sure it will be back to under 10 seconds soon enough.

If you want to do an event where every foe drops within in milisec play legion events. I dont find any words to discribe how bad this event is. Those events are part of the reason you cant feel scared/ have respect for enemies in the diablo 4 world.
