I’m not asking for buffs, I’m not asking for nerfs, I’m not asking for different gameplay, I’m not asking for any of this.
I always ask the same thing, the same thing that ALL of us have been asking for 16 months (the preview of Diablo IV was in June 2023).
We need to decide WHAT and WHEN our minions should attack.
I don’t care that Minions are more “aggressive” if they attack…literally everything.
I am the damned “Summoner”, I’m the only one who decides the primary focus of my mionions.
If I want to attack the Butcher for 30 minutes, ignoring 20,000 demons around me, I 'd like to do that, maybe wasting time but it’s my damned choice.
As said, over and over again…how do you fix it?
With a very stupid and small action bar in the Necromancer’s hud, that let us to choose (possibly with a WONDERFUL keybind) the “stance” of our Minions.
Something like in World of Warcraft (it should still be a Blizzard game though…I could be wrong!):
- Aggressive (Attack everything everytime)
- Passive (Attack IF ordered)
- Neutral (Follow me and do nothing)
After 16 months we still have to spam, 8 times out of 10 USELESSLY, a damned aura (which consumes resources) hoping that our minions will attack whoever we want.
Do you think they’ll do something maybe in the next Expansion?
Have a nice day

POE fixed this issue by letting them be controlled with teleport em to your location, make em defensive, or yolo.
Larger issue in D4 is many game mechanics do not function w/ mindless minions we have no control over.
There are 3 events that are near impossible to do as requires killing enemies in specific small areas and its impossible to do them as pure minion build.

We had the button in D3. Blizzard felt that the feelings of the minions as well as their orientation and preferences should be put above their job - which is to obey their master. So they took the button away.
And it makes sense. Think about it from the minion perspective….Perhaps the minion is having a tough day and just doesn’t want to attack Andy like all the other minions during a farming run and that lack of action ends up getting you killed.
Well blizzard thinks you should respect the minions choices and feelings, not the reality that it exists to serve its master necromancer.
Honestly these necros are just grooming minions to kill bosses and it has to stop now.
I’d like to see Skeletal Archers as a new minion type. Give them multi-shot with a spread similar to SB’s quill volley.
Most of the time they do their job. But I like your idea. Like I do NEED them to change targets sometime, or fights like Blood Bishop would be impossible, but so many times I want them to attack a specific target - there are events I can’t do because you have to kill in confined areas (like that dungeon platform with the five pillars, or the snake event in Hawezar) and they go wherever they want. Or how I literally can’t kill an aetheric mass if the CD on my golem isn’t done yet. Or goblins, etc. It’s not a problem until it’s a huge problem.
The easy way to do this is to simply have the minions attack anything we put a curse on. The newest curse would over ride the past curse if cursing multiple mobs.
I would like to be able to Fear, it’s such an unused CC besides of course the spirit born having easy access to it, and I would like posion nova back please that has felt like a major omission since launch.
For me, I want to be able to combine what a necro is into one build. What I mean, Necro to me is minions and corpse manipulation. I want my minions running around killing things, while I am using corpse explosion and corpse tendrils to manage the battle field. Through 6 seasons, I still haven’t been able to do this. Its either minions or blight with corpse explosion.
didnt diablo 2 fix that with enigma minionmancers?
to OP, im kinda unsure in the d4 setting. I agree id like more control, but being able to focus target them could easily get them overpowered.
I think the easiest solution could be that they focus golem orders?
